I watch fox news and listen to conservative radio if you didn't know any better you would think all conservative republicans are like them but I know a lot of republicans and most are real cool if you avoid talking politics with them.

Kept the Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq going until about now. The guy agreed to a Republican Debt Ceiling plan that has obviously failed. Now what has he done that is Left sided. Universal Healthcare which will actually put more money in healthcare company's pockets used spec ops to kill a target instead of full scale war... and what else??

@RunningHalo3andMW2 The nationalizing of health care, 1/6 of the entire economy, the nationalization of GM, his appointments of outright communists to the position of "Czars", "Fast and Furious", originally intended as an assault on the second Amendment, that blew up in his face, suing states that crack down on ILLEGAL Immigrants, class warfare everytime he opens his mouth, etc., etc. And many, many more; these are just a few that come to mind. But there are many successful countries that have strong social programs, such as Canada, or Sweden, or Japan. And as far as your theory about "hard work"? Millions of hard working Americans have lost their jobs, health insurance and houses. And a few billionaires continue to profit from the disaster that they themselves created.

It is political power distributed amoung the people, so that they can direct the power of the nation. If we vote to give more tax breaks to the wealthy so be it. If we vote to tax the wealthy to provide health care for all Americans, as when we elected Obama, then it shall be done because that is the will of the people.

We have an indirect democracy, but it is still a democracy, and if we elect representitives to pass socialist policies in our name then that is the democratic will and the law of the land. The problem is that the system is so corrupted by corporate money that our representitives don't represent us.

@calamagrostis88 WE were founded as a REPUBLIC. Have you read the Federalist Papers? If not, you may want to. See, this is where the schizm lies. Some want to fundamentally shift away from the way the Founders ideas, and structures, that they fought the worlds greatest power to put in place. And some want to stick with the fundamentals of that structure, fundamentals that made us rise to the Great Nation that we are, and could be again. I do agree that the system has been corrupted though.

@FreedomLover1973 The Founders were willing to share more power with the people than most governments up to that date, but they still set up a republic that would maintain the power of the oligarchy. The greatness of the Founders was that a few of them were true radicals and they put in place the mechanisms, free speech, the democratic process and the rule of law, to redistribute power from the few to the many as it should be.
