It was originally known as 14th Ave, hence The Ave, until the city renamed it University Way in 1920. It's still called the Ave apparently because since 1920 that's what every incoming freshman class heard the older students calling it.
yup brings back memories....i lived one block up the hill from the jack and the box which is joined with the safeway parking lot, where that real change guy "ed" sits everyday!!....he can be kind of a prick at times...lol!...and also...it was some of the best times of my life...oh how i miss cohen/ravenna park!!!
BIG DEAL...OOOOOH SO I DIDNT SPELL COWEN PARK GOOD ENOUGH 4 YA!!!......good luck with coming on to youtube to be an assh*le over nothing!!!...best of luck 2 ya!!
A fairly accurate glimpse into the U-District but I will correct Edward; he exaggerated the distance of the U-District from downtown. He said 10 miles, but from Pike Place market to 45th & The Ave is 4.5 miles.
I heard Kim Thayil lives in the U-District. Wonder if that's true...

if you spelled it wrong, you're probably pronouncing it wrong too. it's cow-en, not cohen.
