If Marti took 'easy street' and sang a load of shite a la Michael Bobblehead or whatever you call him, then his vocal muscles may well have relaxed a bit too much and he would simply be a crooner that get's a wee mention in the archives. No, Marti's passion and effort is well and truly still in his performances and that is why he still holds the audience in the palm of his hand. Marti could sing the text from this asshole shit post and still hold the audience, ya either gottit or ya ain't...
It really is proven that the male voice can carry on well into your 90's. Marti's voice is still as powerful but like all of us, getting a bit older, we become a bit more chilled and aproach the catalogue with more influences and ideas. When Marti was in his early 20's, even I noticed he actually sang it better than his mix in the studio, it was perfect with the pitch singers only dream of. Believe me, it's all still there, go see his musicals. He didn't donate a lung to charity for fuck sake!!
Of course Marti doesn't sing that song like in 1987, but it's not about his past heroin addiction. A-ha's vocalist Morten Harket has the same problem, his vocal range is half what it was (he used to be 5 octaves like Mariah Carey), and Morten wasn't that a drug addict. It's just aging, higher notes disappear when you get old (unless you're a castrat or something). Marti has also lost a lot of weight, so his looks have changed too.
no one can sing as high as they used to. people naturally lose range with age. his voice has got better in terms of technical proficiency though. he's a way better singer now than he was back then. even Willie Mitchell agrees
yeah i know about this.Sure he can't sing like he was back then, few can.Sometimes they even need to re-arrange the tones for the songs,so it suits the singer's voice.I'm talking about all the bends in general of course.
it is equally as strong. that's just how he sings that song now. you need to remember. he originally recorded the vocals for that song in 1986.. he would've been 21 then (younger than me), he would've been around 42 here. he ain't got the range, but he's certainly got the power if he chooses to use it

Wet Wet Wet weren't together in 2003 - they split between 1999 and 2004.
