Hank Marvin has barely any honours as a guitarist. Even John Frusciante (RHCP) and The Edge (U2) who I think are both fucking average made it into Rolling Stone 100 greatest guitarists, but Hank is nowhere to be seen.
Hank Marvin is an Extremely Talented Guitarist as well as a Musician. Apache is a Prime example of his Control and command over his Signature Fender Strat. The subtle Vibrato’s created with the Whammy bar is so beautiful and the way he plays the Guitar while following the Steps is a unique, rare talent, which I don’t see from any modern day Guitarist...
@Nirmal1991Guitar Paul Gilbert is an extremely amazing guitarist, who has an extreme control and command over his signature Ibanez. Whilst I realise this argument will never be solved by a pissing contest, I'd like to say this - you can't say theres no modern day guitarist with talent like this, unless you know everyone out there.
If you really want to hear this guy at his best then bring him up on the same stage playing "Ghost Riders In The Sky" - that's a better tune altogether i think & complements him more.
S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G! I fall in love with Hank every time I see this video. What style! What class! Today's 'music' has NOTHING of the romance of the 60's or even 70's - today's youth seem to have no appreciation for the finer things in life - sadly, most of what they can only appreciate seems to be noise and violence - what a loss for them!
@TheElginboy maybe they like playin with him, but it doesnt change the fact that this song is fucking boring. no emotion no feeling.. Same shit 4 mins long. My ears are cleaned out, you gotta clean out yours.
@minoxy92 This isn't shit that is is real music and if you dont like it then get lost and go listen to what crap music is around, this music is great and pop music is shit it doesnt even deserve to be called music, so just go away you total fucker!
I just love Hank Marvin, one of the nicest guys and one of the greatest guitar players in the world, also yes very much underated. I just love this video and at the end bless him, so funny !!!
Certainly true about this guy, he's a real demon on a guitar & one of the best you'll ever hear. In some ways these great players have their own unique style, with such as Mike Oldfield & Brian May also two of my favourites
If someone says that there is no better guitarist than him, he should watch this video and try this song before says anything. it seems it's easy to play, but he can surprise. maybe not but respect for Hank Marvin!
@Mopsingot i can play this and it is very easy but its not about difficulty its about sound, and i reckon this is one of the best sounding guitar melody's ever. metal guitarists can play 1000 notes a second if they want but theyll never produce anything as good as this
@8down10 Yeah, that's true. I'm proud of you if u can go this song and i hope you are yourself too :) I mean that I'm not against of Hank but just saying :)
can someone please explain to me why people see him as such a genius? i found this rather bland and indifferent. He must have something i don't hear since so many like him.
@Crazyguitarman1991 My friend, you have twenty years and that explains it! Mr. Hank Marvin created this music! This song is used in colleges of music to test whether students have reached higher levels of learning! Listen to all the versions posted here on You Tube version of the same by other performers! Perfection in the components, melodic, rythmic and technical
@kindrespirit Er, having had some experience of music education at a fairly high level I don't think, with the best will in the world, that an analysis of Apache, however thorough, would yield quite the same insights into the compositional craft as the non-functional harmonic and other more advanced concepts one might encounter in a well-rounded music college syllabus. Cracking tune though.
@Crazyguitarman1991 I don't think he is called a genius by many. However, he did have excellent tone and touch and was playing tunes with clarity, space and drama - i.e something more modern (to early 60s listeners) than the more advanced (but dated-sounding) jazz guitarists. Remember, before this there were no long 'big' guitar notes in popular music - blues a la Clapton (etc) had yet to emerge in guitar styles - so yes it can be hard for younger ears to 'get' but it was great for its time.
@sludgefingers Thanks for your reply ! "A long journey always begins with the first step ", This famous phrase explains the genius of Hank Marvin. After Picasso's, great artists performed works magnificent but he continues to be a reference to modern art. My parents and parents of my friend, have some flaws ... however, these comments will never could not exist without interference of them! Thank you again.
It is unbeliveable that one of the most influential guitarists in the world is one of he most underrated too. He is all in one: melodic, rythmic and technical.
to @TheMG63 I respectfully disagree with your position on Ingmann. The twist of fate is that his version made it to the States & got far better airplay than the Shad's. Hank & company never regretted that twist of fate. They just kept on producing impecable music for thier UK fans. Those fans knew that the Shads belong to them & they've responded with loyalty for 50 continous years. Loyalty, the best kind of reward bar none!
Such a clear tone he gets strat hero for sure, check out british band kulu's debut video change of heart on youtube, there album no rider is also on i tunes great listen
