When I watch these morning shows, it's usually between shower, breakfast, coffee, kids, etc...It seems to me they never never never never have a problem w/inter views w/what the world calls,"STARS" They never get stopped, and even when I get toast out and butter it, I can still hear the interviewer GUSH over ever ever every word they utter. Now, I watch the weather and turn off the tv and listen to music I forgot I loved. Kids are very happy too!!!!!!

How is it that the pause has gotten longer over time? That used to be the length of the pause between the anchor and the reporter in Iraq 2003. God, I've never understood why the hell networks don't put the two people talking on a separate offset cell phone feed instead of through the video feed. Then they can be talking like normal as if they were on a cell phone call (hearing and talking through the phone) but to us, we would just see them talking like normal in the high-quality mics but without the pauses. *shakes head*

The reason they don't do that is the HQ audio from the person in the field would still be delayed, causing the anchor to step on the ends of their sentences. If she were talking to him via cell phone she would hear what he said before we did and would begin asking the next question before we heard the end of his answer.

I mean if there's an equal amount of delay both ways (to the person and then the delay as they wait for their response) it seems the delay would cancel out if you just had them time their conversation based on the cell phone call and talking like normal. =/

The timing of their conversation would be OK if it was via cell phone, and this would remove the problem we see in this video where one of them starts to talk, and then hears the other person start, causing them to stop. However, having them converse via a low delay method does not address the problems for the broadcast. We would get her HQ audio live, but his HQ audio would be delayed, making his part of the conversation lag behind hers resulting in her stepping on the end of his sentences.

Yes, that would solve the problem. In my field of work (radio) there are digital delays that can be ramped up or down without the listener knowing, and one of these could be inserted anywhere in the audio chain. Something similar could probably be done on TV. I suppose TV networks don't bother with this because of the added complexity and perhaps they don't think that this sort of stumbling over each other happens frequently enough to justify the expense.
