so these particles are accelerated to light speed, and begin to travel in time, and also if you were near a black hole, you would be traveling in time too and time would slow down? if you travel near the speed of light, do you slow down too?
@lusterwings No that is one of science biggest misunderstandings of all time ,you do not travel in time if you go faster than speed of light. You would only be able to see light who has not yet reached you, thus you are only able to observe not actually physically being in the past
@boxingisbest hold on, correct me if i am mistaken but if we live our lives at very high speed relative to the speed on earth wouldn't we live longer relative to earth?
@wearestarstuff51 no I mean the resent test at CERN, they fired a particle from one lab to another and found it cam out around 60 nano seconds sooner then there other tests show light should, ( i suspect they've accounted for the time alteration )
@Development2112 Yea, that's the OPERA experiment. The particles started at CERN and were sent to Italy. From what I've been hearing from physicists, it looks like there were systematic errors in the experiment so it doesn't look promising so far.
@WeAreStarStuff51 Systematic errors? or Einstein ass kissers, jealous colleges, this is a experiment whom has been undergoing severe testing over several years! looking for any error possible and now it has also been tested once more once again proving that the speed of light is broken by these neutrinos WHAT MORE DO THEY NEED? ohh yeah i forgot they need solid systematic testing proving that the earth is not flat and in the center of the universe
@Development2112 If you're referring to the OPERA experiment, it's looking like there were systematic errors in the experiment. Chances are, relativity is safe for now.
I'm a time traveler. I travel through time constantly. I even traveled through time while writing this comment. When I started, it was 10 seconds ago.
with no further confirmation and what-so-ever, most of the science community consider the experiment from OPERA an error, so no, the neutrinos from CERN LHC probably didnt go faster than light
If a human traveled at or past light speed, they would disintegrate. the speed would build up pressure and resistance which would rip your body apart.
@BobTheNecrophile If you don't have a clue about physics, you are allowed to ask. But don't make stupid statements cause no one's talking here about traditional traveling. And yet it's not confirmed particles did travel faster than light since both string theory and M theory suggest unknown parallel dimensions do exist, so they might have traveled through these parallel "worlds". If they really did travel faster than light, it confirms time traveling is possible for big masses in the future.

@yowyOw69 I'm "allowed" to do whatever the fuck I want bro, this is the internet.
secondly, wind resistance of that intensity would definately rip you apart. also, movement through space would not move you through time, that's just logic, I don't need to have a degree in pysics to figure that out.
Time is a constant, it doesn't stop or slow down, it just IS. you my friend, think of everything too linearly.
@BobTheNecrophile No person in their wildest science fiction dream thinks we would use faster-than-light or light speed travel IN THE ATMOSPHERE. Not only would it have the effects you said, but even getting to those speeds would be damn near impossible just because of resistance from particles. In space there is no such resistance, so no being ripped apart either. Also time dilation is a fact, it's been proven, so if you travel at relativistic speeds, yes you would slow down time.
@BobTheNecrophile Tell me, do you trust the abilities of modern GPS systems? If what you're saying about time is true, then our GPS's are completely useless.
"Time is a constant, it doesn't stop or slow down, it just IS."
Then tell me, how does the Lorentz equation and Einstein's field equations work out EXACTLY how time would slow for objects at different speeds and heights, before we had the ability to measure time that precisely, and then when we got that ability with very precise atomic clocks the time difference matches up EXACTLY every single time?

The hydron collider might get close to the speed of light but i have blue prints for a device that will get to the speed of light. I call it '' a lamp''
@jagajava123 Einstein’s special theory of relativity does not say that nothing can go faster than light. It says that you cannot cross the light-speed barrier: you can’t accelerate to and past the speed of light in vacuum. But the special theory of relativity allows the possibility that a particle is born with a speed greater than light. In such a case, it can’t slow down to cross the speed-of-light barrier from above.
@BeylaKaythin But neutrinos don't inherently have greater than light speeds, they were accelerated to such speeds by the massive amounts of energy the physicists gave them.
Neutrinos have not gone faster than light tha was just newspaper sensationalism at it's finest. At the time of the result no physicists thought it correct as the result was more than 5 standard deviations out (much worse evidence than a regular result would require, let alone one this big). It was known at the time there was flaws in the equipment, now it is known what the flaw is ( gravitational time dilation was not took into account correctly).
So... what you'r saying is that I can make a TARDIS?
Poopdahoop 1 month ago
point a laser pointer on the moon and flick your wrist and the beam will move across the surface 3x the speed of light.
