I think people forgot when comparing it to movie that in the movie the actors/actresses were not performing live and that's why there choreography and over all production for each number is better, where as on stage they solely have to rely on there voice to make the number.
@Jigglesw yep, i was literally just thinking that. Firstly it's dated but I dont understand why every costume for the women in white/cream is from a totally different historical point, the interaction with the children is weird and my eye was drawn to the blonde kid who had a really hypnotic and creepy smile...lol Thank god technology and design has improved, as a theatre designer myself, this is blinking awfully done.
@sarizonana Actually, Broadway choreography is typically much more difficult than anything you see in film because the talent on Broadway is, more often than not, much more impressive. Regardless though, why does this number have to be flashy? The point of it is in itself quite simple. Also, honestly, if something is too flashy on Broadway... people tend to mock it. Because they typically are trying to cover up a poor score and/or book with flashiness. *cough*Spider-man*cough*
i worked on this broadway show in 1982 at the then called "46th street theatre" with Raul Julia (god bless his soul-) and the stella cast of Nine. it was a broadway debut for me.
@SenorZorrozzz i'm italian...the italians are mixed...there is blonde, red, dark etc...I am blonde whit blue eyes ,my sister is brunette. In Roman Empire arriving people so different...and Italy was domain...Spain,German,Austria etc.We are more mixed in Europe
compare this to the movie and you just prove that your idiot... the movie is a wacko compared to this... i watched the revival with antonio banderras way back in 2002 or 2001 or something and it was hilarious!!!
what a grat alto song hahaha, still... I liked Fergie better, I mean, it is not supposed to be sexy here, after all, she is a prostitute paid by children. Marshall made a sexy number because Fergie is more sexy than Moss, even when he made an ok film, his musical numbers are amazing
having seen the Fergie's version first, i was wondering how the part of the tambourines would be. I was first disappointed when they handed her the tambourine and started making the kids follow her, even when it started to escalate i didn't think it would reach much higher, then when the climax hit i was taken off guard and it was a very very good feeling. With that said, I loved the tambourine part as a whole.
Its about an Italian film director who is attempting to produce a scrip for a movie that is scheduled to start shooting. Nine refers to a number of women that have influenced him in his life. Just like Chicago, the musical numbers are flashbacks or they exist in his mind. This particular woman is Seragina - a prostitute who Guido, the director, visited as a child and payed her to teach him about "love."
Actually, the title "Nine" goes back to the original film this musical is based on, "8 1/2". The film was by Federico Fellini and he had made 8 1/2 films to that point in his life. Yeston named the musical "Nine" saying that this musical was another half of a movie to add to Fellini's repetoire.
Actually. it has a lot more to do then just that. He had worked on 8 1/2 movies. but the NINE comes from the NINTH movie he is working on in the musical version and the NINE women in his life (in the musical) and the fact that his life changed at age NINE (from the whole Prostitute thing....)
The play is about an Italian director, Guido Contini, and the women in his life. This scene is a flashback to when Guido was nine years old and he and his friends visited a prostitute because they'd heard about her and wanted to see what she was like.
Fergie does it so much better

Rob Marshall is so bad
me makes me get used to watch spectacular and sexy numbers on his movies and latter i check the originalls here and get very dissapointed
thats not fair
sarizonana 11 months ago
@sarizonana Methinks you just need to change your focus. Broadway musicals are about the story, music, and talent - not Hollywood sex appeal.
overthemoo 8 months ago
@overthemoo
yes i know but it gets wierd after we get used to Rob Marhshall´s flashy numbers
we first in the movie a big spectacle with a huge production, chorecographys and thinks like that
then you see the real Brodway numbers witch are simpler.
its hard to get used to something so minimal after the big Hollywood productions

I believe the last thing she did was Grand Hotel on Broadway from 1989-1992. After that, I believe the aliens took her back to the mother ship.
