If a cop pulled me over on a motorcycle, I'd actually give him the respect he deserves. It's really interesting how differently cops treat you once you get on two wheels. So I figure the respect should be mutual.
@TwistyTravster That's probably because the change to being a motorbike cop is treated like a promotion so there are less rude cops as they are less likely to be allowed to be a bike cop. That said, do remember that not all cops in cars are bad, a lot of them maybe rude but they still do a very essential job

@gregboyds Seems more of a failure of American bike manufacturers than American Police. They have a job to do and doing that job requires the best tools for the job, regardless of where it's made.
What those guys do on a motorcycle is amazing, not too manta people could even get one of those bikes over far enough to hit the foot boards (which is what made his back wheel kick out). GOOD vid.
and i love how the riding position and body movement on these is so much different from a sport bike. looks like less body work and more in the arms, forcing the machine around. i like it lol
@niaZomba He's not lifting all of the 719 lbs... balance and folcrom point. He's lifting between 90 & 105 lbs depending if the fuel tank is full or almost empty.
@halfthrottle What gear do they carry on the bikes? My question was always why they don't have nothing but a half helmet on; so i'm assuming the gear is all police things and not protective right?
@halfthrottle they wear the hybrid helpmets where i live , you know the ones that you can hinge the whole chin and visor part up so it can be either full face or half face.
@4upk893 Sure you can. Just takes practice and the right teacher. Get "Ride Like a Pro" on DVD by Jerry Palidino. He is a cop and trains cops to ride. Watch the video and go out and practice. You will see an improvement in your riding in the first hour. Yeah, it's that good. One day, when I was taking the MSF, we were taking a break. An off duty cop on an Electriglide went out and rode the course. He was doing things with that monster that most were having trouble putting a 250 through.
Wow amzing skil with riding and those chunky bikes cant be easy to ride like that. Bit of a gay way to pick up a bike though?? whats not stopping it going straight over the other way?
No, in a simple way i dont. The only reason why i said it was because of you look the bike isnt flat on the floor its already up slighty from the storage boxs.
You boviously don't ride, ride a little 250 and/or don't ride enough to make that comment, actually it is the easiest and fastest way to pick up a dropped bike, part 2 of your question is you don't hurl the thing up and over, you get it up enough to grab the bars and push it forward for momentum to right itself.... You'll learn through experience when you grow up!
WTF??? get over it mate, i ride a Ninja zx6r not a fucking police bike. No i dont have any clue about how much they weigh. And i need to grow up to learn how to pick up a bike LMAO you prick
HAHAHAHAHA geez I must of hit a nerve or something? I said that because your comment appeared to me as if it was written by a child or young teenager, but still you need more experience to know more motorcycling techniques. So you ride a ninja zx6r, should I be impressed? I ride a Hayabisa (hence my name and profile pic of my bike), I didn't just get a Busa because I want to look cool, it's because i've ridden for 35 years and have certainly earned the experience!
I am sorry i must have read your post differently. I only said what i rode as you said i probs dont ride. Your not wrong the longer you ride the more experiance you learn. Nice bike. Ride safe
@JIMIJIM Ignore MrBUSABAZZ . You ask good questions and deserve a respectful answer. Those bikes weigh over 800 pounds. While some may be able to just bend over and pick one up, most cannot. They teach this technique as it is much safer. I have seen 130 pound woman pick one up this way.
@ardvarkkkkk One more thing.... In JIMIJIM's comment, he implied that this technique was "gay"..... I got defensive as I don't take kindly to being labeled as something I'm not! So how about we just agree to disagree and leave it at that? I shouldn't even have to explain myself to anyone!
That's exactly how you pick up a bike correctly. Put your butt up against the seat, grab the bars and walk back into it while raising it with leverage [your legs do the lifting NOT your back]. Apparently you don't ride.
first off, just saying that's how you do something correctly, when referring to something that can be successfully achieved in many different ways, is ignorant. secondly, the fact is that this just shows how pathetic this person is in this situation, considering this is a full grown adult male police officer, who should easily have the strength to lift up the motorcycle in the simplest and quickest way, which is not what he did. and lastly, i do ride, but that has nothing to do with this.
You don't know what condition this "full grown adult male officer" is in. He has proper training which apparently you don't and it IS the quickest and simplest way to pick up a motorcycle. I stand by my comment. You are showing YOUR ignorance with your reply. I've picked up bikes both ways. The officer's method is the preferred method not only by the Department but the MSF as well. I never said in my first post he was "wrong". My reply was to your derogatory "LOL" at his method.
You do realize that is about 5-600 pounds of dead weight you are asking him to lift?
I ride, im 6' 2 235lbs, and i can barely lift my 400 lb sv650 without using this method or being pumped full of adrenaline. and then my back kills me for 4 days when i do it on adrenaline.
this is the "ergonomically correct" way of lifting a downed motorcycle. even 100 lb girls can left big harleys using that method.
actually that bike weighs over 700lbs(wet) stock. even so, he's only leaning the bike back to it's upright position from about 45 degrees down, so he's really only pushing about 300lbs, not lifting directly against gravity, so it's really not that difficult, plus my comment was referring to a maybe 40yr old "policeman", (ie someone who should be very capable). and if you can't lift a fallen 400lb bike at 6'2" 235lbs, then you should try losing your excess fat and gaining some muscle.
I err'd on a low side because a busa is only like 5-6 wet. and i have lost fat(70 lbs in a year) and always had decent muscle mass(they want me to be the strongman for a circus theme halloween). so thats not the problem. the problem is i have a back problem that is genetic. this is why this is the "ergonomically correct" way to lift a bike. so my already weakened back doesnt get further injured.
well I was never arguing that his way of lifting the bike wasn't the "ergonomically correct" way, but I'm sure for some people that would be the best way, and good for you, losing that weight (and I don't mean that sarcastically)
guy got some cornering skills for a bike like that...other newbs would still be twisting the throttle even when off the bike! don't now how they do that...
are you kidding me??? Make those turns on a sport bike what are you smoking???? Sport bikes are not made to turn tight enough to get on a course like this. A course like that is not sport bike land, now a road course is sport bike land
I've wondered how bullet bikers would do on a course like this. I would love if they would open the event up to the public. So any "hotshot" could see how they do against the cops.
