The cooling in the lower section doesnt look well designed. The two exhaust fans are close to the power supply which also exhausts air. Those 3 will share air from the front intake fan that has one half obstructed by the front panel...
Better would be a design with power supply mounted fan down to intake air from outside the case.
Bottom is understandable mention, but back, there is no place to put the sound dampening, because there is fans, Power supply exhaust holes, PCI-E brackets. When you put the sound dampening at the back, it simply block every functions at the back of PC, and front, there are front fan and 5.25 bays. What you only can do at front, is cutting down the sound dampening material and stick it on each of 5.25 bracket.
for those who use a DAW PC this is the case for you :3 ... I wish there still stock of this here in Asia though every place even in Japan where I live doesnt have it anymore :/
Watched a lot of your videos and you keep talking about a port for the CPU cooler retention plate access. I've never seen a case that had one so it must be a rare species and I'm not sure why you keep saying "it doesn't have one" like you're displeased.
I'm pretty sure that having a large hole like that in the motherboard tray would greatly reduce it's rigidity and increase the possibility of warping of the tray and shorting of the motherboard. I would pass on a case that had an opening there.
@junkymagi usually they are used so its easier to mount your CPU Heatsink. fare enough some people dont like them. but sometimes they are a big help. :D
@junkymagi I think you never look at the recent competitive mid/full tower cases. Every single (mid/full tower) gaming case or case for PC modifier/enthusiast does have one.
You wanna mention the examples? All Corsair cases, Coolermaster HAF series, CM series, Gradiator series, All Antec's gaming cases and Dark fleet series, All recently released Silverstone, Most recent case from Lian-Li. All Bitfenix case, All recent Zalman's case and recently NZXT, too There are sooo many of case do that
I have two of these cases and they ROCK!!! The sound dampening works and I am glad for it.. the second build I did with this case I got a pair of different fans with out the acoustic dampening I would have driven myself crazy. it does support EATX mobos ( particularly the dual proc versions.. just be careful of the fans you get ! for space was tight but I managed.
Bought one of these last week and am waiting for it to arrive. Didnt realise it was a steel construction - sweet! Heavier cases mean less noise. Just like speakers.
...That's why my speaker boxes have been cast out of concrete, lol.
The water cooling holes on the back are very small, I am going to have to cut one of the vents to allow my 3/4" OD hose to pass through. My old Antec 900 had massive holes
+ 2 80mm fans for hdd's and front 120mm the top 120mm has to suck and push all the air for other drives, a bad cooling design and it generates 39dba outside of the case when closed so much for a "silent" case
@ipullstuffapart i own one of those, the only sound you hear is the front fan. a noiseless computer is nearly impossible because of the airflow (fannoise)you need. cheers
this case is awesome.. very tempted to get it but i think its going to get very hot inside the case with 3 graphics cards.. and it only has 2 180mm fans.
so im thinking of getting the cooler master s.
What you think ppl.. which is better for cooling and air flow?
One question! and pls respond, asap, if that is possible... what is better?
Silverstone Raven SST-RV01B ?
oR
NZXT Whisper?
pls answer!
and one question, does the silverstone case, making a lot of sound?? (in a quiet room..)? < if i use a lot of fans?(around, 3. mayb 4? working with 1800-2000 rpm)
Gonna buy this chassi next week, but I'll change all the stock fans except the one in the front to Noctua fans, they are the best on the market in terms of sound/performance :)
Nice review, the sound comparison with/without side panel is just sick :P
when he can afford one! those things are gigantic overpriced pieces of junk! i did a build in one when the i7 cpus came out. they were a terror to build in, the side panels didn't fit properly, and one of the USB ports on the top of the case was faulty. its a shame because most of NZXT's cases are great (i've built in a tempest, a lexa, a rogue, a hush, an apollo and a guardian 521 and they were all great)
yeah you're right about the getting parts for free, i guess I didn't remember that part when i made that comment. either way, the khaos is a pretty terrible (for it's massive price) case.
Yeah, just think that the fan he used is a fan which you wouldn't get anyway.
I"m getting this case, the only things in the system that will make a bit of noise is the Corsair 750W PSU, the eVGA 9800GT Superclocked GPU and a bit of sound from the Zalman CNPS9700 LED CPU Cooler, but that is made to be quiet, so not much worry there.
I think my machine is going to be a very quiet one, unlike the system i'm using now.
when in the world will nzxt start making good looking cases??
Whats going wrong with youtube i try without logging in and even switch between different browsers i keep getting "we are sorry this video is no longer available"
Haha its terrible, i mean 'great'... good review, seems like the front fan has a lot to suck through with the door as well :S does that sound stuff make it hotter?

No this is not really intended for a gaming rig. Although it could be if water cooled everything (including the video card(s)). It would certainly be ultra quiet then.

Nice Case, i dont think i would run out to go and get one though.. I like the idea of the acoustic foam but there is something about this case tht i dont like.
I don't understand why people freak out about computer noise. its so minute how can it even bother you? Maybe its just me but the noise doesn't even phase me...
rodney excuse me but..i think you are kinda hard about the "non remobable motherboard trays cases" ... theres a lot of room to work in that case.. i think is not something bad ...i think those big cases doesnt need a motherboard tray.. in fact is kinda dumb because the amount of room... sorry.. but... extended atx cases are ok.. people who wants motherboard trays with those are really lazy people... i dont want to be rude.. is just my opinion.. im a fan of you..sorry if i was a little rude
I hear ya, but I prefer a removable motherboard. I'm far from lazy, just really really busy and any time or headaches I can minimize I'll gladly take it. Being able install and remove the main hardware outside of the case is a godsend. Well, at least it is IMO ;) I really need to design my own line of cases.
Putting other pieces of foam into the case is probably an expensive hassle for the manufacturer but they should supply extra pieces for the builder to apply. Thanks Rodney.
