@Tie, The reason why I have so much difficulty, not fear, with believing that your god exists is the same difficulty that most adults have with believing in the tooth fairy.
As far as hell goes, If your god were real and were willing to throw me into hell simply for not believing in it's existence, then your god would be a tyranical bastard who is unworthy or anyone's love.
It's a shame that people have conditioned you to live with such fear. You don't deserve that.

Hi Abc. Your post makes a lot of sense. It IS silly for people like me (who claim to follow Jesus) to keep trying to convert people who have heard and rejected the message of salvation while we so miserably fail to genuinely live out our faith. We have a lot to learn.
On the issue of abortion though, I argue against it not just out of spiritual conviction, but because I truly believe it denies the most basic of civil liberties - life - to those who are most defenseless.
Its not what i do or say that defines me ...its what I believe... that makes me who I am......and if people call me christian then thats a great label. but im not worried about being call that...Labels dont matter...I know who I am in Him.
I can understand where the 'Angry Atheist' phenomenon comes from. Some people making thier way out of religion are gonna have some hang ups. Its not the kinda crap you give up in one day.
Skunk Anansie is one of my favourite bands btw. Skin, the lead singer is so damn cool.
Your beliefs are silly. The same way that none can prove the existence of God you can't disprove his existence. What do I have to loose for having a little faith in a higher being? I accept God and Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior. P.s. you music is horrid, look up offspring. I pray your taste in music improves... i'm sorry for your lack of vision, it must be terrible for you. But you can't argue with me that EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON!:d
But I can and I do. A lot of things do not happen for a reason. I understand that it makes you feel better to think there is some plan behind things that are random, but a good feeling does not mean it's therefore real...
You're right, I can't disprove god, but the onus is still on you. I don't claim anything, you are the one that claims:
so if you dont belive in a God how do you that the world came to be. do you just think that something came out of nothing. so what who do you belive in what. unless you belive that jesus christ came and died for you then you will spend forever in hell!!!!
I smell a straw man... Ah, the old something out of nothing argument... No atheist actually claims that, I don't believe something came out of nothing. I simply don't know... I know that the big bang is the origin of the universe as we know it, what was before, if there was a before, I do not know... You claim to know all, a claim you can't substantiate... And you claim that something came out of nothing... Did god not just poof it all into existence?
you claim to know there is a god who created all... Now, that is a pretty big claim... In fact, by making such a claim, you end all enquiry into the nature of things, since you have the answer, goddidit...
Faith is just another word for wishful thinking... However appealing that idea might be, if it isn't the truth, then why believe it?
tayb, with your logic, you have twice the problem of the whole 'Big Bang from Nothing' theory...
With your logic, you believe that one entity the most powerful thing ever conceived (how lucky for us), comes magically from nothing, then MAKES everything else, matter, time, space, all other concepts, from nothing...
What religion were you tayb, before becoming christian? Any other religion? Were you always christian?
Did it ever cross your mind that you may have been 'brainwashed'?
I do believe in a supreme being, but I totally agree with the sad logic of "-ists". Rules and laws are the way humans promote a general welfare. 400 years ago, that meant the welfare of royalty to the exclusion of the common. Would people have developed "egalitarian" laws without the conflicting pull and tug of good religion and bad religion to alternate as the examples of virtue and evil? Not that athiests did not make great contributions, but was the religious milieu the incubator? Peace
Before I realized the option of atheism, I used god as a scape goat that I blamed for bad things, which lead me to 'hate' the invented deity. Of course realizing I used it as a way to vent anger didn't occur to me until quite a while afterwards.
I am often amused when people of "the book" can't even live up to the standards of their own teachings, and yet, expect me to fall in line with their dogmas, and thoroughly understand their book, like it has any meaning in my life beyond the prejudices it vents my way. The idea people don't believe in their god (in some cases) is just too much to handle I guess, and blows their stilted minds.
It's even more amusing that it's simply not possible to live up to those standards - and the fundies are fully aware of that and think that's what makes us all bad, so we're forever dependant on YHWH's mercy. They just don't realize the contradiction.
Perhaps to justify clerical aspirations to power and influence, perhaps because the men who wrote the texts (and most of the believers of today) weren't clever or diligent enough to spot it, perhaps both and more. Genesis/=logic, fuddle follows.
When I told the people of Northern Ireland that I was an atheist, a woman in the audience stood up and said, "Yes, but is it the God of the Catholics or the God of the Protestants in whom you don't believe?"...... QUENTIN CRISP:
You offer so much food for thought in your videos, and I don't want to miss anything...I do want you to turn down the music a bit so I can hear you better...it is probably just me, but I have a hard time following your voice when the song lyrics are competing for my attention. Part of getting older, maybe, but it's a real challenge to me.
You were without power for a few hours? How did you see... uh... I mean... how did you watch the tele... uh... how did you go without listening to the radio? Yeah, radio.
It's really easy to be angry about the real world effects that a belief in god causes, but apparently it's really hard for believers to understand where that anger is directed. I think we've all heard this one.
I am sometimes accused of being angry at "God" also.
I find it odd that people don't understand, or intentionally misunderstand my position on religion. Most of which are Americans. Think on that for a moment...Americans. A secular nation by every definition of the word.
What's worse are those that seem to think Atheism is a religion, when nothing could be further from the truth.
I am so sorry... You know what, I shall let you have your next crumple-horned snorkack horn, even if it might explode... Because it's better to be blown to smithereens than to have to let go of your heartfelt beliefs...
While it appears that theists are much more afraid of being wrong than atheists in matters of the supernatural, it should actually be the other way around:
If they're proven wrong about gods existing, he will have never existed, and they can happily go on living their lives - pretending there's a god anyway, no doubt.
If proven wrong about gods not existing, suddenly we're faced with the knowledge of some entity trying to control our lives, powerful enough to destroy us.
Thanks for a very informative video. Not that there is anything wrong with your choice of music, but it gets a bit hard to focus on your message when the music is playing in the background.
Well said. I don't think it's right at all for people to force others to believe in the same things they do. Especially when it comes to medical science. I mean, those embryos that religious people are trying to protect are basically just going to get thrown out anyway, so it's like they are allowing two people to pass on instead of one, you know? Great video. :)
Very true. It seems that they believe their god doesn't mind wasting lives, while he does mind using these embryos for a lasting contribution to society... Go figure...
i've noticed that most atheist people who make videos say peace at the end but most theist that makes videos dont say anything it usually just cuts off. so much for the peace theists bring lol.
The Christians that I encounter on and off of Youtube, as well as in my own family seem to have a very difficult time accepting that there are non-believers; as a young theist, this was the reality that was presented to and accepted by me as well. This is a very good video that explains a very simple concept, but I do not have faith that it will help most Christians understand our position any better.
I also think that is is unlikely that these very same Christians will keep their god out of our "earthly" laws, because I don't think that they actually have trust that their God is in control of things. I would presume that if we were all going to be judged according to our actions anyway, that these christians would just do their best to live according to god(s) laws and let US live what they believe to be sinful lives, without trying to pass laws against what is "sinful".
After all, if a Christian locks an atheist in a padded room and restricts him/her from acting contrary to God(s) will, are we to assume that this atheist is likely to go to heaven?
I just hope that because of my, and so many other's videos, some Christians out there will understand that atheists do not deep down believe there is a god.
I don't believe in the chrstain god either or anygod for that matter. The christain god is a false god as are all other gods. While I do have some conservative values I don't believe you have to believe in a false mythical religion and a false mythical god to have conservative values.
We bother ourselves with religions because people of every religion are causing disasters all over the planet. Religious people try to take away our freedoms, they kill other people, they inhibit scientific progress (by bothering scientists).
Haven't you listened? I explain why I care... Because theists still make immoral laws, still try to rule my life... I don't much care for that, if theists feel their rules are important to live by, fine, live by those rules, but don't make me abide by those horrible laws though, theists should not force me to adopt their views...
An atheist cares because there are millions of believers that represent hundreds of different gods, each of these theist-activists is attempting to impose their fairy tales on modern rational human being that are trying to live productive and functional lives in reality who do not need to have fantasy laws imposed on them.
Comment from 2bsirius: YES! The problem is that if we believe in something or someone who is omniscient and who tells us what to do and what to think, we are robbed of our humanity because humanity exists in our ability to think critically about our actions in the world and about the consequences of those actions for ourselves and for other human beings. Religions don't want real inquiry. In fact, they discourage it.
Comment from Loreleila: There is not enough evidence to suggest there is a God. But there is not enough evidence to suggest there isn't either. However, personal responsibility is entirely apparent. I make my own choices, bear the consequences of my actions, and no one is required to behave as I do. In the end it is our relationship with life itself, and that can only ever be unique to us. Preaching to others who they should be, whatever it's root, is foolish and unrealistic.
I agree we have a challenge finding evidence for very poorly defined deities - which I think all are.
On the other hand I think there's a lot of evidence to suggest that deities are the product of people's imaginations; reflecting the believer's cultural background and their time in history.
To me that suggests that gods don't exist as something independent of people's imaginations. That makes me believe they are not real.
Apparently because of some glitch, I uploaded the video twice... I removed one of the videos, and reposted the comments... I get notified by email, but not of those that are a comment on someone elses comment apparently...
Mankind has huge difficulty in seeing in an all encompassing way, in seeing beyond himself, or in understanding his own psyche. I think often the concept of a deity can help with all of these, but equally can serve to do the very reverse in the hands of those who perceive life in black and white terms.
well written and thought through as always. The problem is that full on theists find it almost impossible to imagine anyone really really being an atheist and thus they prefer to see it as you being angry at god. They simple cannot accept that you don't believe he exists.
Hey Sap, What are you doing here? Great comment! I feel that there is often a great deal of confusion between how a non-believer reacts to religion compared to what we think about the idea of the existence of god(s). If we could prove that there was a single god(s), we would still be faced with the fact that there are many religions that are not true. Religions, we know, exist, but we have yet to prove that even a single god does!
Agreed. All religions teach their followers that they are on the right path or are the "true" religion. This conditions them to judge, dislike and many despise those that challenge or conflict with their ideology or worldview. It is amazing the power belief holds.

I can understand where the 'Angry Atheist' phenomenon comes from. Some people making thier way out of religion are gonna have some hang ups. Its not the kinda crap you give up in one day.
Skunk Anansie is one of my favourite bands btw. Skin, the lead singer is so damn cool.
tasidar25 3 years ago
Your beliefs are silly. The same way that none can prove the existence of God you can't disprove his existence. What do I have to loose for having a little faith in a higher being? I accept God and Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior. P.s. you music is horrid, look up offspring. I pray your taste in music improves... i'm sorry for your lack of vision, it must be terrible for you. But you can't argue with me that EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON!:d
scruffstaa 3 years ago
But I can and I do. A lot of things do not happen for a reason. I understand that it makes you feel better to think there is some plan behind things that are random, but a good feeling does not mean it's therefore real...
You're right, I can't disprove god, but the onus is still on you. I don't claim anything, you are the one that claims:
1 there is a god
2 it's your god
3 you know what it wants
4 you are "saved"
5 there is some kind of plan
None of these things you can actually proof...
Atheistblindchick 3 years ago
and you lack serious musical understanding if you don't know skunk anansi... sad really
Atheistblindchick 3 years ago
so if you dont belive in a God how do you that the world came to be. do you just think that something came out of nothing. so what who do you belive in what. unless you belive that jesus christ came and died for you then you will spend forever in hell!!!!
tayb13 3 years ago
I smell a straw man... Ah, the old something out of nothing argument... No atheist actually claims that, I don't believe something came out of nothing. I simply don't know... I know that the big bang is the origin of the universe as we know it, what was before, if there was a before, I do not know... You claim to know all, a claim you can't substantiate... And you claim that something came out of nothing... Did god not just poof it all into existence?
Atheistblindchick 3 years ago
no im never said i know everything because no one does....but when i get to heaven then i will know so i meant you have to go on faith.
tayb13 3 years ago
you claim to know there is a god who created all... Now, that is a pretty big claim... In fact, by making such a claim, you end all enquiry into the nature of things, since you have the answer, goddidit...
Faith is just another word for wishful thinking... However appealing that idea might be, if it isn't the truth, then why believe it?
Atheistblindchick 3 years ago
The first cause of this universe is a bit of a paradox for our brains. It's that simple.
It is just as easy to believe that this universe began as a result of multiple outside-of-this-universe events. No deity required.
Read the book Flatland and watch the Flatland movie. It may help bring perspective as to why it's so puzzling when you attempt to see beyond.
There has not been one reason to suppose an intelligence, especially in regard to how the plebs of this world perceive "god."

taby13, How do you think God came to be? Do you just think that God came out of nothing?
marcluc1988 3 years ago
tayb, with your logic, you have twice the problem of the whole 'Big Bang from Nothing' theory...

Man are the supreme beings of this planet.
Blackardis 3 years ago

BayerLexan 3 years ago
Exquisitely well reasoned and splendidly delivered.
simplydaft 3 years ago
I am often amused when people of "the book" can't even live up to the standards of their own teachings, and yet, expect me to fall in line with their dogmas, and thoroughly understand their book, like it has any meaning in my life beyond the prejudices it vents my way. The idea people don't believe in their god (in some cases) is just too much to handle I guess, and blows their stilted minds.
politicomark 3 years ago
It's even more amusing that it's simply not possible to live up to those standards - and the fundies are fully aware of that and think that's what makes us all bad, so we're forever dependant on YHWH's mercy. They just don't realize the contradiction.
Perhaps to justify clerical aspirations to power and influence, perhaps because the men who wrote the texts (and most of the believers of today) weren't clever or diligent enough to spot it, perhaps both and more. Genesis/=logic, fuddle follows.

Excellent video.

Something peculiar:
While it appears that theists are much more afraid of being wrong than atheists in matters of the supernatural, it should actually be the other way around:
If they're proven wrong about gods existing, he will have never existed, and they can happily go on living their lives - pretending there's a god anyway, no doubt.
If proven wrong about gods not existing, suddenly we're faced with the knowledge of some entity trying to control our lives, powerful enough to destroy us.

Well said. I don't think it's right at all for people to force others to believe in the same things they do. Especially when it comes to medical science. I mean, those embryos that religious people are trying to protect are basically just going to get thrown out anyway, so it's like they are allowing two people to pass on instead of one, you know? Great video. :)

The Christians that I encounter on and off of Youtube, as well as in my own family seem to have a very difficult time accepting that there are non-believers; as a young theist, this was the reality that was presented to and accepted by me as well. This is a very good video that explains a very simple concept, but I do not have faith that it will help most Christians understand our position any better.
freetaught 3 years ago 3
I also think that is is unlikely that these very same Christians will keep their god out of our "earthly" laws, because I don't think that they actually have trust that their God is in control of things. I would presume that if we were all going to be judged according to our actions anyway, that these christians would just do their best to live according to god(s) laws and let US live what they believe to be sinful lives, without trying to pass laws against what is "sinful".
freetaught 3 years ago 3
After all, if a Christian locks an atheist in a padded room and restricts him/her from acting contrary to God(s) will, are we to assume that this atheist is likely to go to heaven?
freetaught 3 years ago 3
Unless he commits thought crime.
Denamic 3 years ago

I don't believe in the chrstain god either or anygod for that matter. The christain god is a false god as are all other gods. While I do have some conservative values I don't believe you have to believe in a false mythical religion and a false mythical god to have conservative values.

One thing I don't understand: why do you put up with this? Why do you care? Why at all bother yourself with any religions?
xxn3oxx 3 years ago
We bother ourselves with religions because people of every religion are causing disasters all over the planet. Religious people try to take away our freedoms, they kill other people, they inhibit scientific progress (by bothering scientists).
farvision 3 years ago 2
Haven't you listened? I explain why I care... Because theists still make immoral laws, still try to rule my life... I don't much care for that, if theists feel their rules are important to live by, fine, live by those rules, but don't make me abide by those horrible laws though, theists should not force me to adopt their views...

Dalbert342 3 years ago

Atheistblindchick 3 years ago
Comment from DefaultPosition:
I'm really p*ssed off with the Slavic deity Belobog.
I'm fed up with the absence of sun here in London, being a sun god it's Belobog's responsibility to sort it out.
So I've decided I dislike Belobog so much that I'm not going to believe in Belobog... let's see how he likes that.
Atheistblindchick 3 years ago
Comment from Loreleila: There is not enough evidence to suggest there is a God. But there is not enough evidence to suggest there isn't either. However, personal responsibility is entirely apparent. I make my own choices, bear the consequences of my actions, and no one is required to behave as I do. In the end it is our relationship with life itself, and that can only ever be unique to us. Preaching to others who they should be, whatever it's root, is foolish and unrealistic.
Atheistblindchick 3 years ago
DefaultPositions response to me:
I agree we have a challenge finding evidence for very poorly defined deities - which I think all are.
On the other hand I think there's a lot of evidence to suggest that deities are the product of people's imaginations; reflecting the believer's cultural background and their time in history.
To me that suggests that gods don't exist as something independent of people's imaginations. That makes me believe they are not real.
(What happened?)
Loreleila 3 years ago
Apparently because of some glitch, I uploaded the video twice... I removed one of the videos, and reposted the comments... I get notified by email, but not of those that are a comment on someone elses comment apparently...
Atheistblindchick 3 years ago
Ah I seeeeeeee. Thanks. :)
Loreleila 3 years ago
Mankind has huge difficulty in seeing in an all encompassing way, in seeing beyond himself, or in understanding his own psyche. I think often the concept of a deity can help with all of these, but equally can serve to do the very reverse in the hands of those who perceive life in black and white terms.
Loreleila 3 years ago
well written and thought through as always. The problem is that full on theists find it almost impossible to imagine anyone really really being an atheist and thus they prefer to see it as you being angry at god. They simple cannot accept that you don't believe he exists.
kalsolarUK 3 years ago

Religion on the other hand... I despise.
Great video
sapperbloggs 3 years ago
Hey Sap, What are you doing here? Great comment! I feel that there is often a great deal of confusion between how a non-believer reacts to religion compared to what we think about the idea of the existence of god(s). If we could prove that there was a single god(s), we would still be faced with the fact that there are many religions that are not true. Religions, we know, exist, but we have yet to prove that even a single god does!
freetaught 3 years ago
Agreed. All religions teach their followers that they are on the right path or are the "true" religion. This conditions them to judge, dislike and many despise those that challenge or conflict with their ideology or worldview. It is amazing the power belief holds.
