@m4d1mg I remember reading somewhere that it was "My german is not very good, my german is shit german, what is the soup of the day?" but someone correct me if I'm wrong!
OMG I never knew who Ben Folds was until I saw this Chat Roulette Improv video where everyone is clamining it's Ben Folds in disguise (I had to see for myself, and they do look and sound very much alike) and Ben is really awesome! Might even look to see where he's touring. Cool!
I'm pretty sure he actually wrote Hiroshima based on this improvisation. So, this was completely improvised including the tune. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's right.
Its the same tune as another song, "Hiroshima" but he redid the words on the spot. Haha. The first video of Ben Folds I've ever seen was RTB in perth, australia. I've been hooked to his music ever since.
it should be noted that it's a different song every time. It started in Chicago. Some guy randomly yelled out "Rock this bitch", so Ben made up a song on the spot called Rock this bitch. Now fans everywhere yell out rock this bitch and he'll make up a new one. Always different words and different music. A lot of the time it deals with current events and/or the location. I've been to 3 ben folds shows, and he played rock this bitch at 2 of them. There are literally hundreds of versions now.
Yeah generally that it was ^^ And than he ordered something else i think but i could not understand. It sounds like potatos but it could be a big coffee too :D
i think this was pre-Hiroshima song, but I think he had this tune in his head and just wasn't sure what lyrics to add to it yet.... he made it way better with the Hiroshima lyrics in my opinion.
Did this inspire "Hiroshima"? Or, the tune had been in his head for a while, and he just improvised by incorporating the man's unintelligible yelling. :)
if facts, Ben does a different Rock this bitch improvisation every show. the new album, that features hiroshima, is a kind of compilation af all the best rock this bitch (not all the songs though, but quite a few)
i'm pretty sure he was writing hiroshima during this time and just like used the chords to jam to. i mean he uses alot of the same words/ideas and also the entire band stops in synch at 1:35 sooo leads me to believe they had been playin it before.
I'm in a band and speaking from experience you can stop in sync while playing improv. it depends on how the music is structured, but grented, it doesn't happen often.
Ok, so I found this video a couple of weeks ago, then listened to Hiroshima and made the connection. How legitimate is the claim that he based Hiroshima on this jam? Because it's really hard to believe he'd written Hiroshima before jamming in Berlin over a year ago.
The only way to see him, live he's at his fucking best.....Brilliant,Crazy,and some of the best live piano and audience participation you'll ever hear.
I know! Do we know for sure that this is the REAL beginning... or did he have this melody kicking around for a bit and he just decided to whip it out for this occasion?
no no. i'm not saying the chorus. I'm saying the melody. the chord progression. "F C/E Dm Bb". It's pretty simple so i wouldn't be surprised if he made that up on the spot, but I'm just speculating if maybe he already had something going...
these chords are the same as a song thats gonna be out on his new album. the oh oh oh's (or bup bup baa's) are the same also. the song is called hiroshima search for it and it sounds exactly the same. its also a good song.
the guy was shouting "gracie girrrrrl" - didn't even know the correct title of the song he wanted to hear - and nonetheless became the creator of "hiroshima"... jeez!
it's a call to the wild in Berlin mother fucker's keep shouting unintelligible shit it doesn't matter what language you speak it's the same all over the world mother fucker's all ways say bup bup baaa! bup bup baaa! bup bup baaa! bup bup baaa!
maybe it's the jagermeister talking maybe it's the cigarette smoke maybe it's the sheer hundreds of people with a very high intelligence making your business in the bathroom and the feces all over the wall or maybe it's the little red keyboard that cost a thousand bucks bup bup baaa! bup bup baaa! bup bup baaa! bup bup baaa!
we're rocking this bitch in Berlin we're rocking this bitch in Berlin we're rocking this bitch in Berlin we're rocking this bitch in Berlin we're rocking this bitch in Berlin everywhere around the world mother fucker's come to see us and they sing bup bup baaa! bup bup baaa! bup bup baaa! bup bup baaa!
the Rock this Bitch that he did at RIT search Rock this Bitch - RIT and it's right there, except it doesn't have the pan lid the melody is exact same.
I was at the show last night in Columbus. He made this Rock This Bitch into a song called Hiroshima. He said it is based on a story when he played in Japan and fell off the stage while he was walking out at the beginning. He said that after this, he played the whole set, bleeding all over the keys. The chorus to the song is simply, "OH! OH!" That man in the crowd should be as proud as the first guy in Chicago to yell out "Rock this bitch!"
He did it in Chattanooga too, I was like "OH SHIT, I know this." And if you could hear the lyrics too, they were almost the same except he changed it to fit the hiroshima story.
Also he made the Rock This Bitch - RIT song into a new song on the coming album it's in the related videos on here, tell me if you recognize it about 5 min into the video.
ben actually played this tune at the ann arbor folk festival last week .. so whoever was the dude who shouted the 'ba ba ba baaa' should be pretty proud oh himself right now ..
i met him in nashville at the ryman auditorium at sigur ros in 06........hes a typical man..........and indeed an amazing musician.....i wouldnt go as far to say hes the best live performer ever...you're in fucking germany surely youve seen Radiohead?
