  • I am running windows 7 Ultimate in my rig.. 14" Screen up front, 21" in the rear.. This is a clean install, Very nice.. I used a Hp Slimline pc and inverter and it works fairly nice.. 7.1 is insane in the car :)

  • bravo! I'm a tad clearer on the set up, but alas about $600 shorter than I thought. I was hoping I could jimmy rig a kenwood dvd/gps stereo and use it's screen but since there's no video input I know of I'm back to my willie coyote drawing board. I just started thinking about this as I want to have a mobile office, sound studio and God mode powers to the net ;)

  • @0:14 not really the best to put computer circuitry directly on carpet. Static discharge will kill many components.

  • this is girly car, und car for man with ein suspicious mustache

  • Do you pay for the XM radio?

  • I like your install. Nice and neat! Is it possible to have seperate sub control?

I am planning to install a carpc in my 300zx. I have purchased a VIA 2500 just wating for it to arive. Its a little low spec, but hopefully it will be enough to play MP3's, GPS software and digital radio.

  • What are your thoughts on this idea?:

Assuming the layout of your car will allow, you could install a large touchpad as your input device and position it so that you can easily use it with your hand on the center arm rest. Since the real limitation to your screen clarity is the touch screen tech, you can now replace it with a normal screen. Since normal screens are also cheaper, you'd also afford a higher resolution, no?

  • A Volkswagen Beetle. :(

  • Listening to Avril Lavigne while driving a VW Bug? You sure have the deepest voice of any women I have ever heard.

  • i got a mac mini and it has its own battery hideing ubder the back seats

  • good job.

But im more in the comp with more power :)

  • i popped some capacitors

  • @Z14LDO better cooling next time!

  • Not too shabby

  • EXCELLENT!

  • hey why didn't you put the mac mini under you seat?

  • The LCD monitor flip up thingylingy - where did that come from, and how come it seems so integrated into the dash? That was the one thing I wondered real hard about - and the one thing you didn't touch upon!!

  • Wow you live in loudoun county! I saw the stickers and went "Hey! Wait! I know those tags!"

  • u dont drill through ur firewall........there are holes for this already....

Great job on the setup though

  • Very inspiring, thanks a lot for the video!

  • man u r amazing !!

    أتمنى لك التوفيق

    ^_^

  • Awesome job on the video. It definetly will have me going in the right direction when I decide to install.

  • great video!!! great job, very clean looking.

  • wow! great video, impressive install! you should go on discovery =)

  • Where did u get that lcd monitor housing?

  • Excellent video. You should go professional.

    Kudos!

  • good one

  • I'd rather use a notebook pc but great concept.

  • fuck fuses. Get proper circuit breakers. Fuses are the devil!!! DEVIL!! Duh-EEVVIL.

    ...Ouch! That's expensive!

I like that you're showing budget moves, though.

Nice video. Clean, non-distracting vehicle shots, good exposure of certain areas, and good product descriptions.

thank you for making the vid.

  • It would be a really good idea to use rubber grommets on the holes wherever wiring passes through sheet metal, otherwise vibration will cause the wiring to rub through the insulation and short out, which may cause a fire if the fuses don't blow.

  • Breathe easy. I have since included grommets.

  • Nice to hear. I'm sure you probably already knew about that, but I would hate to see such a nice install burn to the ground!

  • that is friggin sweet

  • 나도 꼭 하고 싶게 만드는 군요...

  • Props for the Descent theme music!

  • Do you have a DIY for creating the Valet Switch? I have a car PC and I'd like to add that switch to mine... also I really like the way you implemented your screen into your dash... looks very much factory...

  • great vid. does anybody how to rig a pc to a marine battery not in a car? feedback would be nice thx.

  • If you're running a normal PC, you're going to need a Pure Sine Wave inverter. Hook the inverter to the battery's + and -, and plug in your computer.

Without deteriorating your (small automotive) battery, your computer might only get 30 minutes of run time. (before 25% discharged)

  • Thx

  • very nice video, i thought i was the only one who would like to do something like this. one question howcome the video is called Car PC 101, arent you putting a mac in your car. But hey its gotta to be the same concept right?

  • Very nice. I am working on one for my firebird actually. I was wondering about your software. Media Center is pretty cool....but expensive. Any ideas on something easy to nav for touchscreens?

  • I think MAc mini, Apple and SD-Omega mini can vs yours.

  • Very nice. Next time, would you mount your screen lower down so it is more readable?

  • awesome, great video and an even better setup

  • very informative, thank you very much for your time making this DIY video

  • thanks nice video

  • ibug , LOL , ingenious.

  • Why I'm not suprised? Because Astra is just a bl.... Vauxhall/Opel. And whole installation would be more expensive than your Astra!

  • What type of navigation software do you use. Thanks

  • Everyone can breathe easy. I've installed a grommet. It really is necessary. I should have done it before shooting the video.

Remember kids, always use a grommet to prevent shorting from chafing of the wire.

  • Superb. But i dont like some of ur installations.

But it is a grate work.

    Wish u best

  • I'd be extremely worried about the choice not to use a grommet in the firewall hole you drilled. That is a recipe for possible disaster. Thank GOD you used inline fuses as you will likely begin to use them when the jacketing on the 8gauge begins to wear out.

  • Great man ! Thanks !!

  • very nice.... it's perfect

  • Bad, you didn't use cable grommets for your install. Other than that, very clean install, except for using an Apple computer...yick. ;)

Only thing I am not sure about when it comes to computers in cars is the interface (like using the radio or listening to music while driving), how to power accessories and how to overcome signal loss. Maybe this would be something for another video?! :)

  • Hey BugByte!

Share the video! I tried to embed the video, but no dice....

    Well done, amigo!
