  • he starts it at 3:50

  • this is the same engine I had in my Boat Hav - Briss, Norwegian trawler, I owned her in 1977 at 21 yrs old..she was fine, what a nice engine..

    Thom in Scotland.

  • @fuelban Sure it wasn't "Havbris" (ocean mist). Very beautiful engines indeed. The have gained a somewhat legendaty status here in Norway.

  • You need to cut a hole in the flywheel guard so we can see the thing turning.

  • Altro che JTD :-)

  • 40 Hester rubb med "hurtigfyring" fine motorer

  • If Justice exist, this magnificent Kâre had to be prized.

    My humble hat's off, sir!!

  • Veldig bra, det er utrolig morsomt å se at det gamle er eldst og at dette sitter i fingrene på en fagmann!

  • when he is starting, his cap almost burns

    OOPS

  • So this is in a museum?

  • This is Kaare Haldorsen, the son of the one that actually started Wichmann back in the day.

  • Wow! I've stayed in Bømlo for a training course Wichmann/Wartsila!!! I remember it but was not operating!

  • imagine the torque

  • Han forklarte at siden det var et museum så måtte det dekkes til... kunne brukt plexiglass fremme da..

  • Oxyfuel starting torch...

  • Not really, diesel fuel and compressed air

  • Thank you for the video, very interesting, I always wanted to know how these engines were started.

  • yeah it is spoil because you put the guard over flywheel and cannot see if it is start up

  • I was thinking the same thing. Some government mandated silly safety crap. What does he keep doing when it starts to die? What actually kicks it over to start with?

  • When the engine start to die he manually operate the dieselpump to feed the engine. The pump has to be set at a minimum at startup to prevent the engine from start picking up speed that will pump even more fuel that will accelerate the engine more and more. This is dangerus

When he "tunes it" he adds more and more fuel to the engine for each stroke by giving the dieselpump more swing untill he no longer has to feed it manually once in while...

Then the engine runs smooth at low Rpm's.

  • Lovely engine spoilt by the rubish over the flywheel! Have you a non return valve leaking? Thanks for the vid.

  • He he..no e da so gale. Kåren på tuben. Va enno tøffare i dei hine håre dagane når dei ikkje hadde bygd inn svinghjulet med dinna stålskiten sånn so no

    Smioguide

  • Heia Kåre,
