The follow car is what we in the States call a Daimler SP250, and what is called a Daimler Dart in the UK. 2.5 litre hemi V-8 engine. The Napier is, I believe, a 1919 airplane engine.
@durant29 many thanks for details, both cars sound terrific !! i still might have a short movie of a red railton racing at silverstone in 1989, but it's on vhs.
brilliant film have seen the napier railton at brooklands but never in her element on track, also i think that a Vimy was used as the basis for some of the sound effects in the star wars prequells.
Assuming no changes in plan, it will one day fly from Dunsfold (the Top Gear Track) to Brooklands. This will probably be sometime before the end of the year.
It is likly to be an evening or early morning flight, when the wind is low. This is because these days Brooklands has no runway and is a difficult landing, in high wind.
Yes it is the only one in the world, but is a replica.
It was built to commemorate the England to Austria flight and made the same journey. It then did UK to South Africa and lastly the Alcock and Brown across the Atlantic flight. It is likely to stop flying in the next few weeks and will go to Brooklands, where it will be on display to the public.
You can see footage I took from within the aircraft earlier this year if you look through my Brooklands related videos
is it powered by a deltic engine ?
