At the Vancouver Aquarium here in BC, the money from admission goes to the care of the animals and to the RESCUE OF INJURED OR ORPHANED MARINE ANIMALS. Seaworld does the same thing. It's not a circus either. The reason why they have the whales learn tricks is to stimulate their brains, exercise them and have them create a bond with the other whales and their trainers so that they create a family. It's not as good as one in the wild no, but at least they're promoting a relationship.

  • Tilikum wouldn't conform

  • @ZephyrPhoenix it's sad to think that it's ok to take an animal, a family oriented animal at that, away from its home in order to study it. The ocean is huge, a pool or tank is not. It's just not right. It's slavery. Study animals in their own environment and if that's too hard, leave them alone. Humans are always trying to dominate and study something. We don't need to know everything.

  • @tiffstarshining

I don't think you quite understand here. These animals have either been bred in captivity or they have been taken because they can no longer survive on their own because they've been injured or orphaned. And we can't leave them alone. Humans have encroached on their territory and they are in danger. The best thing to do is to learn about them so we can protect them in their natural habitat. Leaving them alone is not an option anymore and it's rather ignorant of you to say that.

  • seawold builds loving bonds with their animals not be mean and most of them are resqued i know i spelled that wrong but thats not the point seawold cares NOW SHUT UP LEAVE SEA WOLD ALONE!!!

  • these are innocent animals they should leave them in sea what will people answer to the ALLAH to what they treat with these animals

  • @jaggarai what you, and many people fail to realize is that they do release a lot of animals. most of the ones they keep are too weak or too incompetent to fend for themselves in the wild. the ones they do keep they treat extremely well.

  • @thenight92 and since my characters were running out im still going. by the way why not let it go and roam the world? think its not safe? of course not but then it can have mateing , breeding, and even a Family and have a happy life . and .. WHY NOT JUST SEE THIS CRAP ON YOUTUBE?

  • If I was an orca, after what the BP has done,I'd be fine chillin at Sea World

  • @choasman669 - the only orca i know of being released is keiko. The others are still here.

  • @choasman669 Which blogging site? As far as I know, non of the orcas I know have been released. Taima, Sumar, Katina, Tilikum, all of these are examples of whales who have lived longer than 10 years in captivity. So explain to me why they have never been released?

  • @B4Malfoy tilikum came to seaworld already in captivity from another park. he at this point is unable to be released due to how long he has lived in captivity. same with the others. when they were captured, they were being rehabilitated. they could not be released or some were born in captivity. they know no other way. the ones who can be released are not used in the show and minimal human contact is used.

  • @choasman669 No they don't. Killer whales are impridoned forever.

  • so lovely ;)

  • Uh oh! 5 people missed the like button!

  • @thenight92 i know what u mean and if they prisoned them they wouldnt be so good at their training

  • Rip Shamu :(( :'(

  • id like to point out that if they were abusing the whales and starving them do you honestly think they would be alive and look so well?would you really want to piss off a huge animal you have to get into the water with? and think about these orcas are huge animals with minds of their own if they didnt want to do anything they wouldnt because if if they dont do what their told or they dont perform at all that day they still get fed the same amount and they know that they are very smart animals.

  • @evanbland dude ur so fking sick they do realise, people just want power and money thats why they kill eachother and command eachother, fking humans think theyre smart like you you think your smart? well im 14 and i realised more of the world then you ever will

but yea who cares about it

  • @SpeedDaMusicUp Yeah I'm 14 too, obviously you you didn't because you sound really stupid honestly. Of course they want money, TO FEED AND PROVIDE FOR THE ANIMALS! They help the animals. Don't you think if the animals were being abused they wouldn't get in the tank with an animal that can kill them?! The animal is rewarded for good behavior, fed well, and educates the public. They are not killed, sick or abused. Get your facts straight before you post shit on YouTube.

  • @Thirsty4Edward That's nature idiot

  • @SpeedDaMusicUp What's nature? The fact that these animals are used for education and treated very well? You make no sense. There's a thing in your head called a brain; use it.

  • @Thirsty4Edward oh sry i was misunderstanding you, btw it was like a year ago that comment xD i was depressed and angry but im ok now just nvm it ;p

  • @thenight92 so your telling me that whale is happy living in a fish tank? your diluded

  • i wish they still had this at sea world in CA but they dont i wounder why

  • @steifenwagon Actually, orca's life expectancy is less in captivity than in the wild.

  • FREE TILLIKUM!

you stupid American, what do you aspect from a Killer whale?

  • FREE TILLIKUM!

  • i did this once and one of the Orcas burped right next to me. it was pretty nasty but cool at the same time.

    i love Orcas! =]

  • I love Shamu!!!!

  • 1)The most common training method,

called operant conditioning, uses food as a primary positive rein-

forcer. For some animals, this means that satisfaction of hunger is

dependent on performing tricks; for others, hunger is deliberately

induced so the reinforcer will be effective.

  • 2) This is not food depriva-

tion per se, for a complete food portion is ultimately provided

each day, but the use of food as a reinforcer reduces some animals

to little more than beggars. Their lives obsessively revolve around

the food presented during shows and training sessions.

  • 3) Patrons of

any captive marine mammal show can easily observe the animals

attention fixed on the buckets of food. For these animals, naturalfeeding and foraging rhythms and cycles, as well as independence

of any kind, are lost. It is difficult to accept the self-serving argu-

ment put forward by the public display industry that training

provides an adequate substitute for the stimulation of natural

foraging or the other actions exhibited by wild animals. Naomi A. Rose PhD 2009

  • Thats because orcas in captivity are Sea Worlds cashcow .. thats why they try to take care of them. they are just jailbirds

  • why do they always give them ice?

  • because they enjoy eating it, It's like a treat to them. :)

  • Actually, Your information is false. They don't need to swim 100 miles a day, That would exhaust them number one, and two they would only swim that much if they were being chased by something trying to eat them for that long. Their lives aren't 'cut in half' They actually live longer. They are fed regularly, And are fed VITAMINS everyday. Get your info right!

  • I agree partly with you Elodee, I disagree where you say ' if they were being chases by something trying to eat them. As far as I know, the Killer whale is on the top of the foodchain, only a great white is slightly dangerous, but a killerwhale can even kill a great whale.. as for the rest of yr comment, you're right :)

  • Well, Whales aren't the only ones hunted by whale hunters. Japan also hunts killer whales. And for them being the top of the food chain, i agree, they don't really have predators except for other killer whales. They do occasionally kill each other. At the time of the comment, I didn't know much about their predators, etc. Thank you for replying :)

  • Yes, I know, when you watch Free Willy 3, you can see the Killerwhale is being hunted, but I meant, real 'predators' ^^but you noticed that allready. I didn't know they kill each other? Do they kill the sick ones? The young ones, I mean, the bulls could kill the little ones but I've never heard from their cannibalism, thanks, I'll look it up!

  • You're an idiot. I've worked with orcas in the wild for 4 years, and they DO need to swim that much every day. stop sticking up for orcas in prison. try doing some actual wild research, and watch some wild videos

  • I will agree now, They do, but it doesnt have to be over a 100 mile distance, the 100 miles in overall swimming anywhere. And they aren't in prison, You are a idiot.

  • I got five words for ya.

    I WOULDN'T FEED THAT THING!

  • we're not asking u too but u are welcome to if u like

  • thats awesome <33

  • they dont swim 100 miles a day even if they swam at top speed for 24 hrs it would be 54 max

  • orca whales are so fucking AWESOME.

  • lol I like that noise the guy made at 1:27

  • I think he said 'ow' xP

  • one time i had a dinner with samu the whale had spit on my food and me best birthday ever haha

  • woah she's the biggest orca i eva saw!

  • NAKAI!

  • That didn't answer my question. What makes you think it affect their health or physical being? IT DOESN'T. Find proof of THAT. Nothing in your research has said it affects the whale's behavior. Get YOUR facts straight.

  • Guess what? Did some research. Wild orcas dont have floped dorcal fins. They might have fin abnormalities such as nicks, twists, or parts missing due to shark encounters or boat propelers and fishing nets but you wont see a wild orca with a drasticly flopped over dorcal fin such as you do in the wild.

  • I WANT PROOF OF THAT!! It hasnt been recorded in the wild ...YOU GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT!! The saverity of the condition of the flopped over fin is a phnomonon only seen in captivity. No where in the wild would you see a dorcel fin flooped over like the ones in captivity. NO WHERE!

  • Have you ever noticed that adult male orcas in captivity have dorcal fins that are floped over? This has never been recoreded in wild orcas. Captivity causes the fins to droop like they do, altering the physical apperance of the animals. This is proof that orcas dont belong in captivity but because it happens to be profitable to keep them in captivity, the drooping fins are overlooked.

  • What makes you think that that means they don't belong in captivity? What proof do you have that that affects their health? Genuinely affects their health? there's nothing. Nothing recorded in the least. It doesn't mean that they don't belong in captivity.

  • Actully it HAS been recorded in wild Orca's....get your facts straight before posting

  • um, wild orcas have floppy dorsals as well. the cause is uncertain, some blame it on the environment. Pollutants, change in salt/fresh water concentration in the ocean.

The dorsal fin is held erect b/c of collagen. A lack of it, may cause a droopy appearance.

that has nothing to do with captivity.

  • You have to understand what a bond these whales share with there trainers. In no way is it any kind of abuse or mistreatment. I think if they're treated correctly, there's nothing wrong with it.

  • I agree with peepchick101 I dont think that whales should be in captivity

  • maaaan i wish i were up close like that with an Orca..i really want to go Orca hunting sometime. My favorite whale because they are MASSIVE and they can actually scare Great White's, lol. They are the rulers of the ocean!

  • im gonna hate it when this little dude dies

  • He's such a little ham. I love that boy.

  • hah!! You'll have to work with me ;)

  • Sea World is not bad anymore different people run it and they take real better care of their animals. Shouka at Marine World needs to be put back in Marineland because she is lonely and stressed and Lolita also needs to be either released or moved to a bigger faciltiy. I love Sea World so much Im in college and am hopefully gonna be an orca trainer in the next couple years.

  • What the? Lolita isn't even at Sea world

  • ... Lolita is like 40 yrs old or something. If she was to be sent to SWF the stress could kill her, If she was to be sent into the wild she would die similar to Keiko but with stress.

  • jeffgoalie how could you possibly know any of that if you believe in animal cruelty and leaving lolita in that paddling pool of a tank then that is your choice but don't use a load of ignorant assumptions to try and justify it as being the right thing to do

  • I love Nakai. But i think whales should not be in captivity.

  • Haha you would

  • I went to sea world a few months ago and i got to eat dinner next to the whale tank too! One of the whales came up on the slide out next to me i could alamost touch her but you are not allowed to touch the whales, but still it was cool.

  • Nakai! I want to do Dine with Shamu sometime. It would be sooo awesome.
