  • It's hard to choose Jack or Bill....hmm. Probably Jack.

  • Love Jack, But I Still prefer Bill Murray in this role.

  • Wow!

  • I hate that it took me so long to figure out which character he was in the movie (I mean, in the days before I knew of IMDB). Many places, including the back of the DVD I bought list Jack Nicholson as the main character, or one of the top main characters!!! Crazyyyy

  • the dentist just doesn't seem sadistic enough. he seems pretty creeped out.

  • @Mychro16 That's because (if I'm remembering correctly) the dentist is knocked out in the chair and that's Seymour pretending to be the dentist, not the actual dentist (who would be played by Steve Martin in the remake).

  • "Oh my God!! Don't stop now!!" Classic.

  • @PurpleMintSam Thats cause its not the dentist, he was the first guy in the chair..thats seymore playing the dentisit.

  • bill murray in 1986

  • omg he sounds just like leonardo dicaprio

  • @janthony657 And looks like him too!!! Too bad I'm not allowed to post links here, but google image "young jack nicholson dicaprio" 4th hit...freaking crazy the resemblance. You can still tell who's who, but they do look alike.

  • I didnt know this movie was in color! I only saw it in black and white!

  • Damn. Why is Jack Nicholson so sexy?

  • @ColorMindExplosion Because he always looks like he's gonna rape you. Nuff said.

  • This is my favorite Jack Nicholson role ever. Bill Murray is great in the remake, but there's just no topping Jack Nicholson here.

  • whoaaa

  • :F

  • Jack Nicholson playing Steve Erkel.

  • @alZiiHardstylez INDEED!

  • Oh jack, you sick sick bastard...

  • is the creepy guy in the smart tux jack ? OMFG !!!

  • young jack nicholson kinda looks like a crazier version of leonardo dicaprio. and they both sound the same! incredible! anyone agree???

  • his part was the only good thing in the whole movie.

  • You can see where he took The Joker from.

  • Omg he doesnt have his freaky voice in this....he obviously developed it with time LOL

  • This actually isn't old enough to be Public Domain, but this clip more than likely falls under fair use.

  • @Arelkun The movie became Public Domain in 1989 because the studio failed to renew the copyright.

  • Tough to beat the Bill Murray-Steve Martin pairing...

  • @martinlinskey

    True that.

  • Wow Jack has always been the way he is....

  • 2:45 ..............wtf!?!??!!??!

  • Jack Nicholson IS PLAYING A SADIST?! WTF!?

  • @930Studios A masochist, actually.

  • @MoltenPlastic probably both he enjoyed the pain of others as much as himself.

  • @930Studios no, actually he is playing a MASOCHIST!...

  • wow...I never knew old Jackie boy was in this movie!

  • jack is jack

  • ahah Even from the beginning he was creepy as shit.

  • jack nicholson va manger du homard sur la cote , premier dentiste..dr peiffer blv louis schmidt ( otan oran..oran otan

  • why can't i find a masochist like him?

  • @MRMADOO I know a few

  • @s3kshun5

Are they in the New England Area??? LOL

  • @MRMADOO Nah, they are in england tho, so kinda close xD

  • It's hard to beat Jack Nicholson!!! Imagine Nicholson as the mad dentist!!!!

  • i like this better than bill murray's

  • I just think the remake is better but that is probably childhood nostalgia.

  • he's like an early version of johnny depp as willy wonka...

  • i recognize his wicked smile !

  • "Wendy!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • A very young R.P. McMurphy

  • HEEEEEEEEEERRRRREEEEEEESSSS JOHNNY!!... for his two o clock appointment, doctor.

  • oh my God don't stop....now:)))

  • ...dentesk et pirates des caraibes since 68..

  • Now if there was a way to combine this scene w/ the Dentist Song from the remake. XD

  • hes creepy

  • I was watching this with my father and brother, soon after we had seen the shining. As soon as this scene came on, my dad flew up and pointed madly at the TV saying, "IT'S JACK, LOOK, JACK! OH MY GOSH, ME MUST BE TWENTY IN THIS MOVIE." And that was it, my dad went on and on XD I love this movie and Jackie.

  • I just saw the original version of this a week ago, and this is by far my favorite scene. Too fucking funny.

  • Wow, Jack was 23 in this movie.

  • he looks like Leo DiCaprio

  • I had no idea that was him! I looked it up on IMDB to be sure, but that really was him. That's so funny...

  • notice on 0:09 that is says Pain instead of Time. XD

  • After that he changed into a Joker, I guess.

  • My god... he's NEVER been normal.

  • @Moronictoaster you're right... and ain't it great?!!

  • He should have made the joker with THAT age at least!! X (

  • I'll have what he's having

  • He must have had some extensive acting coaching after this.

  • He could just lying about the toothaches so he can see the dentist :)

  • The masochist´s voice reminds me of Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory, especially when he says "okay, I´ll wait outside" or "Don´t stop now!!"

  • lol, Jack Nicholson's tooth fetish. XDD

  • lol. Jack was hysterical in this.

  • @TheAltair4

It was his debut before he became a major star.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Yep, it sure was, and he was so young and vibrant looking here, as he also was in The Terror and The Raven. He kind of reminds me of a cross between a young Vincent Price and Leonardo DeCaprio here for some reason, with a little bit of Peter Lorre, Malcolm McDowell, Bruce Campbell and even, i dare say, Jim Carrey thrown into the mix. lol

  • "it's your mouth" lol

  • my 6 year old has the same eyebrows as Jack Nicholson...he raises his eyebrows and they peak just like Jack's...I try to get him to do it for people cause its too funny

  • Jack's the man!

  • How did a role like that lead to a great career?

  • how'd you get the color version.

  • God I love Jack. Never seen him this young before.

  • OOOHH MY GOOOD DON´T STOP NOW! lol

  • its like... the joker.... before he became the joker....

  • And now we know why he was the Joker in '89...

  • haha this is one of my favorite parts of the film haha

  • I am so upset that this scene wasn't in the musical!

  • @jkrfan7, remember that Bill Murray scene? You get it now? :)

  • @badhumus I know about that scene! I mean about the Broadway musical as in the play!

  • You see, i need to check my teeth. Because me and the missus are going to the mountains over the winter.

  • Jack Nicholson, scaring children since 1961.

  • Evidence that Jack Nicholson was actually young at one point. lol. Gotta love this movie.

  • colorized, what the...?

  • lol, jack's gettin a stiffy

  • theres a coloured version? Dude, i thought this was a black and white film D:

  • @KingKael00 It is, it was colourised later.

  • @trinityj1 cool, do you know how they colourise it because if it was shot in black and white i cant think how they add the colour ?

  • this nicholson looks more joker than in the batman movie

  • Jack Nicholson is a legend.

  • One of the funniest movie parts ever Holy shit!

  • O.O man fuck that!

  • Whiner!

  • This movie was actually made as a bet to make a movie from scratch in the shortest time possible. The budget was so low that they used real bums for the skid row scenes and when the dentist chair collapses at 3:15 in this scene instead of reshooting they just changed the script to read dentist chair collapses

  • Jesus Christ, Nicholson is creepy in this.

  • The born of a legend

  • aggagagghgggghgghhh

  • jeez

    he should meet my wife

    BAZING!!

  • he's no Bill Murray. ;-)

  • When he was younger, he makes me think of Jim Carrey. :)

He's sooooooooo awesome in this. xD

  • I meant by his smile, by the way.

  • @stayneknaveofhearts interesting u say that cause once when asked who would be the next Jack Nicholson, Jack replied Jim Carrey.

  • What is "The grip" lol

  • @Rubystars1000 The Grip is a very old illness commonly described as a type of influenza but can also be mistaken as "the Mumps". Not many detailed accounts of it, but common symptoms of it are severe migraine like headaches, pain in the chest and quite often the testicles or other body parts. Like practically any other Pre-Western it was usually treated with drinking massive amounts of alcohol or blood letting.

  • jack nicholson is hilarious in this!!

  • his laugh reminds me of his joker laugh.

  • @baronessdouglass me too!!

  • all the good actors are getting old or are already dead

  • @spk9grsch Daniel Day Lewis is only about 50... Marion Cotillard is in her 30s... just sayin'...

  • Roger Corman - an American film institution.

  • Holy shit he's young here.

  • It is colored... It is originaly only black and white movie

  • "PAIN" magazine... oh man... that is SICK!! %-D

  • the musical's version of the dentist is better he was more sadistic lol

  • He is totally doing Peter Lorre here.

  • Any one else see a slight resemblance to Bruce Campbell here?

  • Those eyebrows.

It's the only way I can recognize him.

    God bless those eyebrows.

  • @littledeadybear i have the same eyebrows when i make a creepy smile...its the scariest thing a person cn see lol

  • @littledeadybear and that grin

  • @littledeadybear : Those eyebrows and the smile. You can't miss the smile.

  • @littledeadybear Don't forget the grin.

  • ChinaTown was awsome

  • You can tell he had fun in this roll lol

  • 2:45 lmao

  • He was as creepy back than as he is now. Makes sense that one of his first roles was a dentist-loving masochist. Was he born this creepy? I get chills imagining baby Jack Nicholson.

  • Out of all of Jack Nicholson's roles, this is the creepiest.

OH MY GOD! DON'T STOP NOOOOOOW!

  • "Oh goody, goody here it comes"

  • Jack was 23 then. He's such a cool dude. I like his laugh in this movie

  • I haven't seen it colourized B4, Nicholson is da man! After this he won 3 Oscars out of 12 nominations.

  • tim burton saw this movie and must have been like: ok i gotta get on the horn to jack because i think i found my joker

  • I'm glad the colorization fad is over.

    Feh!

  • wow love this ! watched last night, but my copy is in black and white, aw well dosent make it any less brilliant!

  • @TheSwiftwings, you can't find the colorized version for free legally from interned because it's restored. The original black and white- version with mono- sound is old, so it's in public domain. ;)

  • He looked like matt damon when he was young lol

  • Jack Nicholson as a creepy undertaker? Go on! No really.

  • I lovee this man soooooo much!!:D hes SOOOO cute in this <3333

could any other guy be any cuter than that?! xD (L)(L)(L)xx

  • Comment removed

  • @Godzie1 no, no they shouldnt, and also we dont fucking care.

  • If he loves pain so much, why doesn't he just keep the tooth aches?

  • @M0VIES4U2 tooth aches = excuse for the REAL AWESOME PAIN!

  • @M0VIES4U2 obviously because it's even more painful to go to the dentist!!!

  • @M0VIES4U2 He's lying.

  • @M0VIES4U2 I think he was lying so he could get the painful operation :D

  • @M0VIES4U2 Because it would hurt more to get rid of them. :3

  • Well, that was funny! Not to mention much different from the Dentist bits in the 86' musical one.

  • I love his voice! He's so cute!!

  • Where did you get the colorized version?

  • I didn't know they colorized this movie!

  • @gtz1975 I believe it was first colorized in 87' right?

  • version in color?

i have a black and whie one, huh

  • this man is so funny when he loves the dentist

  • He is even cute with half his teeths off :)

  • I LOOVVEEE JACK NICHOLSOOON <3 Could watch him all day long :)

  • I SAID OVER EASY!!!

  • If you didn't recognize jack at the beginning of the film then shame on you if you don't recognize him at this part 2:55 who wouldn't recognize that smile?

  • this ones colored tho nice!!!

    was origiannyl black and white

  • is the shit

  • LITTLE SHOP OF HORROS original

  • When he laugh, that's the JOKER's laugh from Batman 1989. LOL

  • Jack Nicholson is great!!

  • And deploy Nicholson eyebrow jump in THREE! TWO! ONE! 2:18

  • what the *uc* is up with the dentist i liked steve martin better, and Bill Murry

  • The "dentist" is meant to be Seymour, which is why he's wearing raggedy clothing underneath the smock. The actual dentist is the "patient" who went "out the back door" that was laying dead on the exam chair.

Though I agree that Steve Martin and Bill Murray made the newer version a whole lot more fun...

  • I don't know. Is a good or a bad thing to like pain?

  • Kinda like the OG Freddy Kruger.

  • depends on who's getting it and whos giving it

  • Jack Nicholson and bill murray are two of my favorite actors, and they both played the same part as a masochist in the little shop of horrors in one of their early roles. Weirdest cooincidence ever.

  • this guy is a legend!! (how did you get this in color?!)
