  • First of all, people for years have compared my voice to Nat King Cole. I immediately halt their statement by telling all, NO I followed the voice of Jesse Belvin. Many respond by saying Who? Man, this is great. I have never watched your father perform. I did not even know he had a son. I grew as a teenager across the tracks and Jesse' jam "Guess Who" and "Goodnight my love" were the red light, highlight of a many house party. Thanks sir. I will be writing you again.

  • Jesse, Sam Cooke, Clyde McPhatter - peerless vocalists. Happy holidays, Jesse Jr.

  • He's great!

    What's with the cowboy suit?

  • What is Love?? This song that's what. I love it, always did.

  • jesse the tops

  • Thank you!!!

  • i wish there was more live footage of your dad. You should be very proud he was a fantastic singer

  • Man, you pa could sing, what a voice, gonna go and listen to goodnight my love straight after this. You can be one proud fella..

  • This is priceless footage, what an amazing singer!!! What a handsome man=)

  • This is some rare footage! I enjoyed this!

  • I didn't know of him till 4 weeks ago, I've got alot of caching up to do.

    great great artist.

  • WOW!!! This is incredible!!

from what show was this and what year??

  • first piece of film ive ever seen of jesse.......wicked.just love his music

  • Wow, what a rare treat this video is of a great artist. Thanks so much for posting.

  • This is such a treat to see this on You Tube. Jesse Belvin has been one of my favorite singers and from the past that I truly enjoy. I am 35 years old and I play Goodnight My Love to my three little Girls at least one a week. They know all the words. They do not know what a CD player is but they do know what a 45 and a 78 are. Thank You for posting this, Jesse was one smooth and great looking dude!!

  • Its such a pleasure coming back to hear such a talented professional singing his heart out. It was a blessing when Jesse Jr allowed his personal LIVE performance of his father...Its a treasure we OLDLIES can enjoy for a long time..Even though the man is physically gone, his music will last forever...THANK YOU JESSE JR

  • Wow!! I grew up listening to his music and I was still young when he passed. This is the first time I've seen any film footage of him. There is no doubt in my mind that he would have been a major force, had he lived. Thank you so much for sharing.

  • this my cousin....

  • Guess Who -- easily one of my all time favorite songs, much less Jesse classics. This song and Beware will always be among my faves. Priceless vids. Thank you so much. In my teenage years, I never had the chance to see him in person. What a thrill it would have been for me.

  • Oh my god how I loved this guy. I have nearly all of his recordings, and what a great, great talent with all of his abilities. When he died in that crash along with his beautiful wife, I couldn't believe it. When I read about where and how it happened, I always had my doubts about that "report." Anyhow, my favorite songs are "Funny", "Beware" and "Guess Who". I will always love him. I played him a lot on my doo-wop show, when I was a D.J.

  • Great post dfancyman - thanks for digging this up from the archives - Its not often you see great video of "Mr. Easy" himself singing hist hits. Absolutely an industry legend and a great story of a man. Any chance we could post this on our own Jesse page? Thanks again for sharing ~ The 27s

  • Jesse, thank you so very much, this gorgeous Rare Footage is so heartfelt and just

touches the soul, my eyes are filled with tears... just hearing his voice, may he Rest

In Peace, your Parents are Angels... watching over You, and All who love them!!

What Talent and such Timeless Songs... I am so happy that you shared this with

me, all my Best and thanks to you, Marcie B. xxx TY, Guess Who, WONGERFUL!!

  • dfancyman, thanks for keeping the legacy of your dad's music alive. Man, he had a voice like smooth mellow scotch and like other comments posted, he was the next Nat King Cole. Goodnight My Love and Guess Who are my all time favorites. And let's not forget your mom, without her, there's no Guess Who. She was a talented lady too!

  • dfancyman, your dad was sensational, had a voice like smooth mellow scotch. The backup singers and orchestra really add to the sweet romantic sound of "Guess Who." This song and "Goodnight My Love" are my very favorites. And let's not forget your mom 'cause if it weren't for her, they'd be no "Guess Who." God bless both your parents!

  • Thank you so very much for sharing this footage of your father. I have never, ever seen a performance of this great singer until just now. There really does need to be a movie and book about this great talent's story.

  • @dfancyman, Thanks for this rare footage. Didn't know it existed. You're dad WAS the next Nat King Cole. Guess Who and Goodnight My Love are my favorites. The background singers really made the songs so beautiful along with his smooth voice as mellow scotch.

  • @dfancyman

Thanks for these rare footage clips. Like many others, I didn't think there were any. My 2 favorites of your dad are Goodnight My Love and Guess Who. The arrangements along with that beautiful chorus and your dad's smooth as fine scotch voice really made all his songs so beautiful. Take care and thanks again.

  • Thank you for this rare footage of your father. I like so many others didn't think it existed. Great that we can see your father perform. Guess Who and Goodnight My Love are my very favorites. Your dad's smooth velvety voice and the chorus really make these songs. Thanks again, Rick

  • Jesse Jr., thanks for these rare footage clips; I didn't know they existed. Guess Who and Goodnight My Love are my favorites. The chorus combined with your dad's smooth velvety delivery really makes these songs the hits they were. Also let's remember your mom for writing such a beautiful song, oh yes! I feel you dad was on his way to becoming the next Nat King Cole.

  • I think Jesse was the greatest singer, I have ever had the privilege in all my 67 years of life, I remember when I first heard him sing Guess Who, I believe I was 15 years old, and I would play that song on the juke box until, they gave it to me, then I went looking for any record of his I could find, I found 3 45s, I even wrote to RCA and they sent me a poster of the Mr Easy picture they were going to use on his new album. I would love to find the album of his songs, Jesse Jr talked about.

  • @2Hadassah Thanks Again....., I left you a personal message on your channel Sir.

    Jesse Jr.

  • i CERTAINLY APPRECIATE YOUR QUICK REPLY, BUT I DON'T HAVE A CHANNEL TO READ YOUR MESSAGE, I APOLOGIZE FOR THAT, BELIEVE ME, THERE IS NO COMPARISON, YOUR FATHER WAS THE GREATEST IN MY BOOK AND ALWAYS WILL BE, I NEVER KNEW HE RECORDED SO MANY OLD FAVORITES, MAY GOD CONTINUALLY BLESS YOU FOR KEEPING HIM ALIVE.

  • @2Hadassah I would listen to Guess Who over and over and over. He truly was one of the best.

  • So smooth and so underrated. Comparing him to Nat King Cole would not at all be far-fetched.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this Jesse. Keep this wonderful memory alive brother.

  • Lovely - thanx for posting this!!!

  • Earth Angel should have got your father into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He wrote and sung some of the most memorable songs of the era. Your father had a jazz, pop, and soul sound. Not too many singers had that versatility and to bring various genres of music into one sound. There should be a movie on your father's life. The tragic deaths of Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, and Big Bopper in 59 are remembered. This year will be the 50th anniversary of your father and beautiful mother's passing.

  • I want to commend you for keeping your father's music alive. If it wasn't for you he would have been overlooked even more. I've learned so much from listening to the interview, music, and you. Clyde McPhatter, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, and Jesse Belvin all open the doors for all the black acts that came after them, including Motown. Clyde, Sam, Jackie, and Jesse set the foundation of soul and rhythm and blues. They all left too soon but left behind some great music for us to remember them by.

  • @rhythmbluessoul "THANK YOU MUCH"......,for I most defenitely agree w/ you.

    God Bless,

    Jesse Jr.

  • The three rulers of southern Calif. music-back in the day.Jesse Belvin, Johnny Otis & Richard Berry. "Goodnight My Love" blew me away when I was only a kid of 10 or so. Beautiful song. Jesse, in retrospect, would have been another Nat "King" Cole.

  • Great!!! Thr KING of LA R &B. All the singers in LA worshipped him.

  • Amazing! Thank you for keeping your dad's legacy alive. One of the great unsung music legends.

  • @rb0405 No....."THANK YOU"....,for this kind of support! The Belvin Family & Friends truly appreciate your helping to keep his legacy alive.

    Jesse Jr.

  • Real treasure..many thanks for posting...blessings from the UK..

  • Thanks ausfan100...however..."YOUR INFORMATION IS WRONG"!!! It "is" on his double cd released by Ace,but Ace released that cd in 1992...and not in '59,and by the time they'd been informed that the title to that trac was wrong...the cd pact had already distributed internationally.

Ace has done several "Very Nice Pkgs." w/ and on my fathers work...and there are plans in the works to bring more.

    Thanks Again...for your concern.

    Most Sincerely,

    Jesse Belvin Jr.

  • salu my dear Friend! Many thanks for the Great post! This one is just Wonderful!Love -Mag

  • Hello, and I can't thank you enough for

sharing this wonderful footage and the

healing tones of your Beloved Father's

sweet voice, it is my distinct pleasure to

watch and hear these timeless classics

Jesse Jr., please take care, and you so

Honor Mr. Belvin Sr., for we the fans want

to keep on hearing this fine MUSIC, the

best ever... Blessings to you and your's,

    Peace, Marcie B.*

  • Always one of my very favorite singers. Lou Rawls told me that, when he first came to LA, he, Sam Cooke, Gene McDaniels, Les McAnn, Johnny Watson and Larry Williams were a clique. Lou said, "We all bowed to Jesse man, he was our leader." He, Nancy Wilson and Marty Paich's son David all told me then felt Mr. Easy is the greatest jazz/pop vocal album ever made.. and I agree.

    Billy Vera

  • "Thank You My Dearest Roeleke"..., I'm glad you stopped by to hear this..., because I know how much you appreciate "GOOD MUSIC"..., especially from that era.

    ~HUGS~

    -Jesse Belvin Jr.

  • This is some rare footage indeed. I have never seen Jesse sing before, Only on records. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video. If you have "Beware," that would be a special treat for me.

  • "Hello....and THANKS For The Compliment"!

If you leave me a message on my YT Channel,I'll direct yo to a MySpace page tha I created for my father...featuring some of his music, and "BEWARE" happens to be one of the songs featured.

    "Thanks Again,

    -Jesse Belvin Jr.

  • Great clip, I too have never seen it. Move over Nat Cole, Jesse Belvin was the king of romantic ballads as the two songs here prove. Check out Jesse's almost forgotten 'Beware' another classic. RCA Victor did a great job with Jesse in the short time they had, but one would think/hope that they have some hidden never heard recordings of Jesse. My two favorite 50s songs are 'Earth Angel' and 'Guess Who'. Guess who really loves you Jesse, everyone who hears your music.
  • "Thank You So Much Sir"...,for recognizing who my father was/ is musically speaking! It's funny you mention Nat...(he too was SPECIAL).Nat was over at Capitol Records when RCA signed my father...and I read a historical quote that said..."When RCA landed Jesse Belvin, they knew they'd found the answer to Capitol and Cole...(unquote)!!!

I have the quote(by Marty Paich) on my fathers MySpace page(officialjessebelvin).

    Once again,THANK YOU. GBY

    Most Sincerely,

    -Jesse Belvin Jr.

  • "Thanks Carol"....,you know I Love....,and appreciate you!

  • Thank you for posting this video. I've never seen video of Jesse performing. I was born July 7 1960, nearly 5 months to the day after your dad's tragic accident, But in my infancy, my parents played 'Just Jesse Belvin' along with Jackie Wilson & James Brown & the rest. I'm glad to know that he was never forgotten, receiving praises from Etta James & Barry White, who recorded several of his songs & played on his huge hit. For such a young man, he was a very prolific writer & artist. God bless!

  • WOW!! He Was The Bomb! He was Beautiful too...

  • Jesse Belvin was legendary in his day. He could write a song at the drop of his hat. Too bad he died so young but it was great to see him in this performance video.

    Thanks be to his son!

  • "Thank You Man"!

About 10 years ago,I was with the late Floyd Dixon, blues pianist and vocalist, and he told me with tears in his eyes, how he was waiting for your father to join the tour he was on at the next stop, when he heard of the accident that resulted in the loss of your parents.

Your father's work on all the many labels,Specialty,Modern,RCA,etc. and all the groups and artists he sang with is just tremendous and a great legacy.

I listen to his songs often and his music is timeless.

  • Hey Man..."I'm Glad Jocko Sent You"....and I appreciate your recognition! Floyd Dixon was a great entertainer! ~Best Wishes~
