I've had a 02 4.8 gmc ext cab for about a week now as a daily driver. you think some LT headers / flowmaster / CAI would kill it for daily driving? I really don't want to ruin the MPG more than it already is.

@sudoGaron get you a cai definatly ill sell you mine for a good price if you havent got one i even have a single in 40 series flowmaster. and lt headers would not mess anything up just get a tune and it will run great if anything youll get better gas mileage. just dont always floor it. i dont know if my cai would fit your truck its off an 08 4.8 but i think you have a radiator that is measure 9" from the tb mine is about 22"

if you realy want to make that 4.8 run even better and just put 500$ work of cold air intake and a poweraid throttle body space. i haave it on mine and it gave it a shit load of more power, and plus the sound from the cold air intake on take off sounds like exaust. o and be shure to get the aftermarket tube for the CAI

@chillidawg112 since my 5.3 has 3.73 gears and i pull 6000-8000 lbs with it and it struggles on hills i would say definantly not, go 4.10

oh really, cause i've heard that it is the diameter of the wheel and tire that makes the most difference as opposed to the weight. weight does make a difference but not as much, but i may be wrong.

well it will take away alot of the torque, the truck has to work harder to get the rims and tires up to speed. and if you go bigger tires it makes the truck go faster, the speedometer off.

I'm a GM guy through and through, but I have an 01 half ton with a 4.8. Raced my dads half ton '06 5.3 and my uncles 2500HD '04 6.0 and smoked them both

Its all about the gearing in the rear end. But the trucks you raced aren't geared the same way your 4.8 is. I have a 99 silverado Z71 5.3 vortec and my buddy has a 02 silverado 5.3 vortec 2 wheel drive, were dead even in the take off . But because his is geared lower he can blow by me. Thats why you smoked the other trucks.

Yep. i understand that. i have a 3.73, dad has a 3.42,and my uncle has 4.10. they both have 265's for tires, but i run 305/70's.

well thats not really why he blows by you. you have 4wd, he has 2wd. that is the BIGGEST difference between yours. i have an 08 V6 f150 reg cab shortbed 2wd 5spd with 3.55 rear end. my buddy has an 04 silverado rec cab shortbed 4.8L auto with 3.73(i think) and he can take me barely. i raced an 08 silverado reg cab longbed 5.3L 4x4 the other day and i was pulling away from it after about 55mph. 04 4.8 is rated 285hp, 08 is rated 315hp. i have 210-215hp

everyone talks shit on them, in a lifted truck rolin' 35's with 3.73 gears yea they suck but in a RCSB 2wd with 3.42's or 3.73's they run damn good.

Especially with a 5spd !!
