all I have to say that was one hell of a shot guy!! great job, I'm planning on moving to AZ in nov. of 2011 and I'm looking forward to all my hunting opportunities out there. Thanks for the class act, keep up the good work.
Very nice shooting. You are making me rethink my 7mm mag, a Harry Lawson. I took a Dall sheep with it at 450 yards and that is my longest shot but that was back before rangefinders, etc. I might just have to change out the scope and get with all the stuff today that makes long range hunting more than guessing at hold over.
I KNOW you worked your tails off getting that elk back to camp! That is the hard part!
Fantastic job! That was too awesone with those 6 bulls fighting all at once! Holy cow!!!!! Really cool video and a TREMENDOUS shot! Congrats. Great song at the closing, A.J.! Thank you for sharing....
I hate these distance shots as someone with less marksmanship skill is likely to try it with their brand new .300 belted magnum using store bought ammo and end up wounding some poor critter. Whatever happened to knowing your prey and working to get into reasonable range?
personally i get a kick out of both, range shooting because it makes me feel good i can make a shot like that, and stalking because its a more intense pursuit. getting within 200 yards of an elk is pretty exciting. it is a test of a particular set of skills that not many people have. patience and wit.
i didnt say i could. i said it was good shooting from them but i would of liked too the 920 yard he said. and i said if your not confident in the shot not worth taking it because it needs to be humane. anyway why do i need to expain my self to you i know what i said and it was a compliment to them so SHHHHHH.......
@ttalbot08 why would they take the 920 yard shot and risk missing when they could get closer, shooting from 920 yards is also unethical, even 750 is pushing it, i dont ussually shoot over 600 personally
I don't think he was hit with the first shot- the first shot was a miss- if you were a Marine Corps Scout Sniper in Afghanistan you would not miss the shot-PERIOD!!!
well he isn't a marine corps scout sniper is he. he is just a guy who spent a lot of time training himself how to shoot long distance. I would like to see you shoot a water bottle at 300 yards. I bet you couldn't do it. but this guy, he could.
Since I have my Master certification in NRA Highpower competition (across the course). I could do it with iron-sights no problem. With a scope I could shoot the top off the water bottle no problem. So there you go MR Smarty Pants!!!!!!
mr. smarty pants? really? I was just standing up for this guy. there is no need to act like three-year-olds and call each other stupid names like what you called me. good job in the NRA. nothing the NRA taks place in my part of idaho, so I am not an active member, but I to can shoot off a waterbottle cap at 300. not with iron sights though.
The only thing that really counts is that we are Americans and know our birthrights as Americans, especially the 2nd amendment "THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED"!!!!!!!!!! Enough said! Happy shooting!!!!!!
o and btw ive always thought. does the president even have the right to change that after he took the oath of office? he said himself he will do all he can to protect the constitution
@hippitybippitybop anyone could shoot the top off a waterbottle at 300yds with a fuckin $10,000 rifle bolted to a bench, all ya do is stand beside it and touch the trigger, do it freehand than id be impressed
@XXTUCHITXX Are you talking the first or the second shot? The first shot missed and the second shot hit because it was a dumb animal. Every dog has their day and everyone has their lucky shot. His second shot was lucky because the first one missed!
And seriously, two shots!?!? Either you killed in with the first and he didnt know it or you took a piss poor shot outside of your useful range. The later means your a very irresponsible hunter. Have a little more respect for the animal. Take good shots you know you can hit. Bow hunters do it in one shot, you should be able to manage in one shot with about 150 time the energy in the the shot. Next time how about you use your camo and get closer for a more reliable shot.
What is so funny about this clip is they are sneaking around and wearing camo like it matters. at 750 yds. The elk have no friggin clue your there. Kinda like these guys here in pa. Theyll set up across a river in lawn chairs with spotting scopes and rifles. Shoot their deer at 800 yds. They dont wear camo cuz it dont matter. You want a challenge, bow hunt at ranges below 25 yds. Thats when it matters. Any idiot can get within 700 yds. Little harder at 8.5 yds like I did last season
.308 win, .300 win mag, .338 lapua are the best calibers for long range hunting.
I have a Accuracy International AW .308 win mag rifle and its the best rifle. Excellent accuracy and fair amount of recoil. 547 yards is farthest shot i did so far.
I heard there was a new rifle that could accurately fire at 1500 yds taking the Coriolis effect into account based on satelite GPS technology. Crap on me all you like but am I alone in feeling that this "long range" hunting fetish has taken the honour out of the sport?
i have a fn spr 24inch barrel .308. do you think it the .308 would have enough energy to drop an elk at that same range. i was drawn for 6a bull this year. this will be my first elk hunt.
it can take an elk at that range but only with a perfect shot. Do you have a range finder, and most importantly, do you know how to shoot at long ranges (past 300 yards)?
Don't listen to john and don't take the chance at that range, a .308 looses a lot of it's kenetic energy after a few hundred yards. Wounding an animal would ruin your elk hunt, no doubt .
Great shooting good eating! Great trophy to boot. Wow!

No neither were shoulder shots. Your second shot is the back spine shot you can see it...first shot would have killed it though.

stalked this bull.
Your call stalk or shoot. Some people are better shots than stalkers.
