Sounds like she's hyperventilating. I would like an exercise program where I don't have to join a gym or buy expensive equipment. It's not going to happen I guess.
Also.. I have done only 4 weeks of training with this method. I have lost almost 10 lbs, but put on about 2 lbs of muscle. My upper body has grown to where my friends and family have noticed. This after only 4 weeks (4 sessions). Also I am a type 1 diabetic... my insulin use has decreased by over 20%per day.
READ the book...thats all I can say. Dr. McGuff supports all his statements with valid medical studies done over years.
To those of you with negative comments..try reading Dr. McGuff's book before you comment. You are just showing your ignorance to this method.
TUL (Time Under Load) is just a piece of the equation. Time to failure is also a key. If you take 3 sets of 5 or 10 to fail, then you are just using and fatiguing your slo and intermediate twitch muscles. Your fast twitch muscles (which make up the most fibers) never fatigue. Your missing most of your workout.
@junfan1234 I absolutely guarantee, virtually nobody will persist at something that boring and uncomfortable, especially not women. For exercise to have any life benefit it must be enjoyed and done forever. The excessive slowness has no additional benefit by the way,its just time under tension which is easily manipulated at normal tempo.
@billysue2 I do Max Pyramid Protocol HIT now, Its been shown that doing exercises slow builds more muscle. Just because something is boring does not mean it is effective. You can always get better at doing something like this. If you want to do something fun, do martial arts or yoga, which is what I do. Not so much for the "cardio" benefit but for relaxation mostly.
@junfan1234 not this slow, but slow as in minimising momentum and optimising time under tension. If its boring ,nobody will stick with it so it wont be effective for most
@MahoneyAndy people wont stick to anything thats either extremely uncomfortable or boring, this is excessive on both counts.i love exercise but lifting that slow using machines would drive me crazy in no time.
