Not fake at all. I have seen anchor chain fall uncontrolably several times and it is absolutely amazing how fast it gets going and the noise is insane. The last time it happened I was just a few feet from one of our anchors chains when the anchor winch brake failed. We were preparing to make a crossover from chain to 3 1/4" wire rope and I was tied off to the handrail, working over water, no where to go.. just had to grit my teeth and hope like hell I didnt get caught up in it.

@cjgofs Its quite simple to explain. On new ships they test everything. So they were testing the anchors. They were testing this one and the brake failed. So it dropped out of control. Now they either gained control or it was attached so well it reached the end but didn't break.

Here's a way to show my point if you have a small chain at home. Go to a table with the chain and hold it above so it's not touching the table. Then slowly move your hand down and keep moving it down. It will hit the table and pile on top of it self.
