@IronicKismet Well, if you watch a little of the news—both here and there—you cannot but notice that, violent though the world is, lo! daily it appears more so, and maybe, she supposes that, her husband is preparing to defend her—or, something along that line—you know, house-breaker-inners, and so forth, . . .

@phillipgaley the world is getting more violent? Compared to what? The beginning of the 20th century with WWI and WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War? Maybe you mean back during the medieval days when the life expectancy in europe was somewhere in the late 20s and children were used finish off enemy soldiers by stabbing them? When has the earth seen peace between humans? Presently it is more peaceful than any other time in human history.

@phillipgaley Ummmm...if you did a little "book learnin" once in a while you would know that crime has been statistically decreasing for years, even decades. In fact most people in prison currently are in for non-violent offenses. But then you probably believe in "common sense", which is just redneck code for "I don't read no books or do any reaserch".
