  • @greekscouse Yea i know :)

But it would be funny, were this the case ^^

  • @MrZer000 nope

  • very goood!!!!

  • well.. feb 17'th now .. 2 years later. But im wondering, how much does that one costs?

  • sounds perfect

  • Wow! Sound really great! Good playing! ;-)

  • Bravo! The world's most difficult instrument, and you played it very well.

  • Yeah I love this video... I'm convinced, I'm going to buy a theremin haha

  • what kind of theremin are you using?

  • this instrument seems to allow a great degree of flexibility when it comes to emotional expression (because of all the vibrato)

  • That was was hypnotic. Well done, and thanks.

  • how much this things cost?

  • Comments in another video said $400

  • 250-400$ 400 meening the best one

buy usaly they cost like 300 bucks

  • You are a master at this! Wow - just fantastic!

    Thanks - Cortlandt

  • Hi ! I have a Theremin... Can you give me several tips?

  • That dude talking about your bare feet helping the ground is wack. I need to get me a Theremin...

  • Sir, you should've been in the youtube symphony orchestra!

  • Piano + Theremin = AWESOMENESS

  • Idd, ieder zijn eigen mening. (Eigenlijk de meest zinnige post die ik al gelezen heb in tijden)

I like this one, but I would have done it a few notes lower, but that's just me :)

  • T.T So beautiful!! ^^

  • Beautiful!!!

  • Great song!!! Great job!!! I would love to learn how to play the theremin!!!

  • woooow for one yea hes really good

  • ok so how does this thing work? does it sense where you are in space? and ive noticed that you do the same movement and produce a different sound... odd

  • It generates electromagnetic, field. Look at him. He is barefoot, right? As his body touches ground he is perfect electric conductor. This body conduction variates electric field. Magnetic aberrations are detected by instrument and turned into sound.

  • lol... being barefoot has nothing to do with being grounded as far as theremin application is concerned. don't make it sound so complicated.

  • Here's a challenge. Let's hear a theremin version of the Hindemith bassoon sonata. I'd also like to hear the theremin play I'm Getting Sentimental Over You, as recorded by Tommy Dorsey on trombone.

  • i love this video, very tnx and keep playing

  • How 'bout some Coltrane? =)

  • xDDDD

  • Im with you!

  • This song always reminds me of "John Doe" (the TV series) for some strange reason

  • ahahah yeeeeh I think it's because a episode that he talks about this song.. ahah I do the same thing !

  • Have you named it? (The theremin)

  • no, it's called theremins after a guy called theremin who invented it.

  • I think he means like a name for his theremin. My bass for example is an OLP MM2, but is called "Morpheus".

  • Unbelievably well done. ... Wow. Talent isn't an appropriate word for what you have.

  • i started crying , good job

  • beautiful.

  • Very well done. 5/5

  • my schools jazz band played this song

  • mine too. And a guest local artist, whose wife had recently died from cancer, played the solo. I don't think there was a dry eye in the auditorium.

  • I really, really love what you've done here, both with your music in general, and with this particular piece. I absolutely love the idea of "jazz theremin." I would just love to see you do some improv with it.

  • Agreed!

  • Comes out quite like a trombone, the theremin does, no?

  • Sure does. The trombone is the closest wind instrument to the actual tones of a human voice. Randy is clearly trying to replicate a voice. Well done!

  • lovely.

  • Amazing! Beautiful work on the theramin, and my favorite song. Thank you!!

  • The theremin is a pretty amazing instrument that I actually just discovered through your youtube videos....thanks man!!!! You are an excellent player. But I am curious if there is any way to tune a theremin. Because I am a musician myself (playing trumpet for eight years) and to my ear it definately sounds like some of the higher notes are out of tune. I definately love your playing and I am definately not insulting. I would just like to learn more about the instrument. Great work!!!

  • tune a theremin? :D You clearly have misunderstood the concept...

  • the pitch is determined by the placement of right hand and fingers, so if the pitch is not in tune it's simply because the fingers are not in the most perfect position, similar to an upright bass

  • Wow i'm amazed. Always liked thermine, but this really got me to really want to pick it up.

You played the so good on this song. A really good version of it!

  • The song selection and playing are both brilliant. Very nice job, best theremin playing I've seen.

  • awesome song! you are a great thereminist!

  • sexy... i played around 4 1 of those 4 a while, and i was having so much fun i didnt notice that my arms were completly destoryed after like 4 hours non-stop

  • a great song but i think you're a little too fast

  • how do u paly that instrument:S:D?

  • The closer to the vertical pole the higher the pitch (and vice versa), the closer your hand to the loop the quieter it is (again, and vice versa)

  • how much do these cost?

  • I love this song and saw your Crazy video, had to check this out! Only one year, you're great!! 5 stars!!!

  • Dude, all of your videos are seriously fantastic. Keep up the great work.

  • man, that was outstanding

    bravo

  • Where do you get one of these? Man.

  • just look up how to buy a theremin on google

  • This guy is the Bethoven of theremin's.

  • It's Beethoven

  • no, its bettovem ¬¬ moron ...

  • Are you being serious?

  • rofl @ jackbigdanniels.. I hope he isnt serious

  • Bettovem.

    Awesome.

I guess you think Danniels is right too.

  • It's called a cryoseptic waffle press. It was invented in the late 1800's as a form of entertainment to distract europeans from the rampant plague that was consuming the area. What he has here is a more modern version of it, renamed the zaxerian xylophicator. The modern version, though stemming from ideas originally concieved with the cryoseptic was different enough to warrant being classified as a completely different instrument, rather than just a seperate version.

  • LMFAO lol its called a theremin just type it in on wiki and you can get the history of it

  • Thanks for bringing this to light. You are 100% correct, although the truth about this instrument is hardly ever heard.

  • @montypadre O_o...wth are you talking about...this is a theramin

  • Beautiful.

  • where did you get your theremin?

  • this is one of the coolest instruments EVER! amazing...

  • i think this is ur best so far

  • this is soooo cool. what is it

  • this is an instrument called a theremin. I just found out about it too. apparently as you can see, you control the pitch and what notes you play all by hand movements... looks insanely difficult because there are no fret guidelines or anything.. this actually seems harder than violin too because you at least even have the strings for reference of a basic note.. but this is an awesome piece of equipment none the less:D

  • Actually, pitch control on the theremin is less forgiving than even a fretless string instrument. This is partly because the distance between pitches is usually smaller on the theremin, requiring more precision. Also, you don't have a fingerboard to steady your hand on. Also, the instruments you list have multiple strings in order to make it easier to jump intervals.

  • That's skill. The intervals are quite broad on this piece, which is the hardest thing to get your head [and hand and fist!] round. Good Vibrations is the classic bit of pop theramin. Not to be confused with The Ramin, which is a kind of hardwood very often found in Polish piano actions

  • never heard of that intrument before ;x

  • easy, are you kidding me?! NO its NOT easy!!

  • That's you're opinion right there man. Just because you may not find something relatively easy doesn't mean the same applies to everybody else. Of course, like most instruments, the theremin takes practice and time getting use to, but that's not to say it would be hard mastering it.

  • This video is incredible.

Good job, you are an inspiration to all aspiring musicians.

  • lol... i wanna be as good as you =D

  • do you have you theremin sound delayed or is it the cameras recording speed?

  • Movie and sound have a habit of being kinda delayed when uploaded on Youtube Or when edited to reduce the size of the file.

  • Whoa - are you for real? That's some excellent theremin playing! I've only ever been able to make old alien B-movie effects on it, but you're so controlled, I love it. Keep it UP!

  • dude your weird!

  • WHa ? HUh?

  • So as a result I guess we can conclude that playing the theremin with or without socks is fun but irrelevant and just a choice of style or what you are comfortable with. I myself am also a sockless player of the theremin. Does anybody know if Clara Rockmore wore socks? How about Thomas Grillo? I think he almost certainly wares socks. Or Peter Pringle He wares socks and shoes! The theremin is surely a voyage of discovery!

  • Also the etherwave hotrodding manual has a section on why the power adaptor of the etherwave is grounded for the benefit of high frequency ground paths for the large capacitancies between windings of the power transformers. It also states that under certain conditions a suplementary ground path is needed for stable operation and good tone colour. No mention is made in the moog etherwave manual of the importance of socks for pitch acuracy or tonal colour

  • Im sure playing the theremin with no socks helps pitch accuracy esepecialy on a wooden or laminate floor for that "chilled sound". Im not sure about the effect that carpet has on pitch accuracy. Perhaps the deeper the pile of the carpet the better the sound due to having no socks. and therefore a better feel. I dunno. I feel an experiment coming on. 0006 has carpet i have wood and my pitch is awfull. guess that ones sorted!

  • he doesnt need to wear socks, he's cool like that. sides, he's in a building, on carpet, he doesnt need socks, sides, im pretty sure hes in his house

  • You are really one of the best theremin players I've ever seen, it is incredible that you've only been playing for a year! You should make a "The Devil Goes Down To Georgia" video... on the theremin. I think that would be the sweetest thing ever made.

  • that WOULD be awesome, but i'm dying to hear the flight of the bumblebee on theremin ;)

  • hahaha, so am i now :D

  • have you learnd it on your own???

  • are you?

  • No socks. Isn't that cool!? lol

  • you're not wearing any socks

  • Theremins work better when you are well-grounded, and touching the floor with the bare feet, especially a concrete floor, will help isolate the volume and pitch actions. It is not imperative too play barefoot, but it does help to attain the kind of precision in this video.

  • c est des otistes ????

  • you play that good only after 1 year!

  • got to hand it to you man... you hold it down...

  • almost as good as elvis costello singing it :)

  • Just wonderful

    keep it up

  • I enjoyed that so much I even registered to comment here just to thank you for playing!

  • Lovely, really lovely. Real feeling and sensitivity in there. Excellent dynamics. Has a lot of that matter-of-fact melancholy about it, a bit like the Chet Baker rendition, my favourite version of this song.

  • That's a spoooooky sound.

This is a square wave sound most music programs provide. I know in Reason and Virtual Sound Canvas (cakewalk), the instrument is under SQUARE WAVE (near the saw waves everyone uses for synths)... I like it though --very inventive.

  • this ones my fave

  • wtf dued your just moving your hands to the music this is stupid

Seriously, though, that is some of the finer theremin playing I have heard. You have a knack for this.

  • i love the video so peaceful =3

  • This guy is so freakin' awesome!

  • Beautiful man, just beautiful.

  • beautiful.

  • thats awesome, love hearing this song in so many new ways

  • That was beautiful

  • I love it :)

  • I play the tenor sax and I've been wanting to get a theremin for a long time to play jazz on. Have you done "'Round Midnight"?

  • love this man....amazing song, and that is an amazing talent

  • sooo awesome wish i had one...:(

  • Jazz does not belong to you. your violent threat must mean you are mentally unstable and because of this your comment is voided. Welcome to the land of civilized people! and congratulations, I am blocking you.

  • seriously, that must get you laid. fuckin amazing shit.

  • You're not quite Clara Rockmore, but then again your song choices are a helluva lot better.

    Basically, awesome vid.

  • That was awesome. I wish I owned a theramin and could play half as good as you.

  • excellent!

  • Hey lsiten up,in 1 year im getting the theremin,i can play very well already,be prepared youtube for a new theremin player, but not as good as this guy

  • you are the theremin BEAST!

  • bravo!

  • we played this song in jazz band but u do it wayyyyyyyyyyyy better lolXD

  • *sniff*

  • That was very musical. Thanks for that~

  • eyyy, very good dude, excelente, gracias por compartirlo!

  • Amazing control!!! Very Expressive too!

  • this is why i love yt. i'm not likely to listen to theremin, unless i can see it being played. enjoyed your vid. i sing this on my channel.

  • once again nicely done.

  • very musical. i like it! i play theremin, too... ever consider a duet? check out my vids of this crazy melodic drum I got called a Hang ('hung'). I think it would go well with theremin...

  • Very, very well done.

  • ive never seen an instrument like it wasent it made by a guy who had a last name of theremin or sumthin? and how dose it play? radio signals?

  • The theremin is played with two antenna. The pitch is determined (on this theremin) by the proximity of his right hand to the tall antenna, and the volume is determined by the proximity of his left hand the the horizontal antenna. when he touches the volume antenna, it stops the output of the theremin.

  • Very nicely done.

  • Great version of one of my favourite Elvis songs.Really har to get any theremin stuff unless you know where.Remember reading an article about the time Portishead were big and there was a list of cds tha were mentioned. But you couldn't find them in the shops.Anyway i see Barbara Buchholz is in town in April.Hope to see her then.Keep up the good work

  • That's not an Elvis song, it's by Rodgers & Hart!

  • Excellent rendition.

  • very good sweet vibrato

  • Yeah buddy! Nice, wonderful expression!

Anyway... those long runs need more fingering and work.

with one year playing, anyway, you're really GOOD ;)

  • nice. :)

  • After only ONE year? Damn. I bought my first one (PAIA Theremax) almost TWO years ago and have had my Moog Etherwave for a year. I need to get back to playing. lol You're amazing!

  • Gawd Damn! I've never seen anyone with theremin technique that tight. . . where are you playing next?

  • Thanks! There are alot of other really good thereminists out there, Pamelia Kurstin, Barbara Buchholz, Rob Schwimmer to name a few. They are pretty easy to find on the internets. For now, I'll be playing right here on Youtube! Stay tuned!
