In addition, Star Wars was a complete cultural phenomenon. When Sci Fi was a genre that was associated exclusively with nerds, Star Wars was so popular that it made Science Fiction socially acceptable. Without Star Wars the Star Trek fan base would be much smaller, and we wouldn't be seeing anything close to the fantasy dominated movie/video game/comic culture to have today.
But to turn a movie into a TV show, especially a saga, is much harder and not usually worth it, because you have to take something that has a clear start and resolution and convult it with extra material that you have to make sure lasts over the span of several seasons. And if you take a look at the amount of Video games, comics, and novels Star Wars has spawned they completely overpower Star Trek's meager spin offs.

But stylepts is an idiot, they wanted to make Star Wars TV shows, but Lucas wouldn't agree to it because he thought it would take away from the epic nature of the movies.
