It is no different than saying a veteran is erroneously referring to WWII by calling it "The War" because there have been a million wars and all of them could be called that. At the time the event took place it was a generic term. Today it is in every dictionary as a proper noun, referring specifically to that event. No other 'd-day' is referred to with the term D-Day as a proper noun.

I bet that everytime you see a D-Day invasion, you think of saving private ryan. D-Day, is a military term that stands for, deployment day. Secondly I stand corrected it is directly Northwest, thirdly I do not know what map your looking at but at all the maps I have looked at over the years, Pointe du hoc is roughly 2 - 3 clicks away from any Omaha beach sector, Its actually, in between Utah and Omaha. Try Google and actually looking at a map of Normandy, you will see, then if your not completely satisfied try cross referencing that map with a map of the D-day objectives/Beaches.

Frontline landing was shit. You could run straight to the shingle without ever being hit xD hit, just run foward and u pass all that small beach. Also, the beach was almost deserted, you see only 4 or 5 guys running, didnt like it. The allied assault was the most memorable to me.
FYI, ALL amphibious operations used the term "D-Day" to signify Day 1 of landings. It's a standard military term and is not specific to the Normandy landings in 1944. Because those landings were so important to the Western allies, "D-Day" became a popular reference to those landings.
COD 2 isn't omaha it deals with the omaha landings but it's not the actual beach this one deals with the Rangers going inland to actually destroy the guns as said so the beach landings could be cleared for vehicals
For some reason, the Company of Heroes intro reminded me WAAAAAY too much of Saving Private Ryan, except with more unrealistic and heroic action but less Tom Hanks :(

I've played this level on so many games, and its great but it gets a little repative not because the setting or Idea, but every game I play this on the same thing happens. your in your boat getting pounded by 88's and machine gun fire the gunner on the boat and guy next to you get shot in the head, the boat next to you gets blown up and not once have I ever actually made it to the beach! every boat gets blown up and yoou have to run through the water. but all in all the guys to a good job.

(To stop German 155mm cannons for firing Omaha beach. (In the same time the some of the 2nd Rangers wrongly landed on the Omaha Beach and finally captured it. Learn Some history!
@cappearma actually the 2nd rangers higgins boats did get caught cause of artillery so they were pushed to go 3 miles west of omaha hit pointe du and 155mm cannons were there they heard fire and recognized the 155mm then they called reinforcements there.

@cappearma actually they never captured any guns there as the guns were never installed, though in call of duty 2 they find artillery guns in the back, in reality all the bunkers that were suppose to have heavy cannons were empty and instead were replaced with machine gun troops and infantry.

COD 2 isn't omaha it deals with the omaha landings but it's not the actual beach this one deals with the Rangers going inland to actually destroy the guns as said so the beach landings could be cleared for vehicals

@masterkorn d-days arnt beach landings haha. d-day is what you call a massive invasion. thats why guadacanal wasnt called d-day or like the smaller ones. the landings at sicily wernt d-day or the southern france landing. but pelilu, okinawa and normandy were! its not any landing

I've played this level on so many games, and its great but it gets a little repative not because the setting or Idea, but every game I play this on the same thing happens. your in your boat getting pounded by 88's and machine gun fire the gunner on the boat and guy next to you get shot in the head, the boat next to you gets blown up and not once have I ever actually made it to the beach! every boat gets blown up and yoou have to run through the water. but all in all the guys to a good job.

@zman12796 Its not Utah neither Omaha. Its a Cliff near the Omaha Beach where 2nd Rangers landed! (Also most of the movies showing are incorrect: In Omaha the bunkers were on beaches after wirefences and no large bunkers on cliffs)

well sry if ur mad but cod2 isnt actually d-day its just soldier's higgens boats ended up getting caught and they had to find another way to omaha but they couldnt and they ended up there at pointe du hoc and pointe du hoc isnt actually d-day its just it was right around same time so people think it is

@legomaster191 Actually it was: The 2nd Rangers were fighting as a special group in the D-Day. The US forces landed on the Omaha and in the cliff of Pointe Du Hoc. (To stop German 155mm cannons for firing Omaha beach. (In the same time the some of the 2nd Rangers wrongly landed on the Omaha Beach and finally captured it. Learn Some history!

@cappearma actually the 2nd rangers higgins boats did get caught cause of artillery so they were pushed to go 3 miles west of omaha hit pointe du and 155mm cannons were there they heard fire and recognized the 155mm then they called reinforcements there.

@legomaster191 are you friggen retarded? no the 1st infantry division was supposed to land at that exact point. they were never pushed. i read a book about before they shipped and everyone knew they were supposed to knock out those cannons so the guys at the main beach at omaha could have a little better of a landing.

@cappearma actually they never captured any guns there as the guns were never installed, though in call of duty 2 they find artillery guns in the back, in reality all the bunkers that were suppose to have heavy cannons were empty and instead were replaced with machine gun troops and infantry.

The one you are thinking of, June 6th, is the most famous and referred to erroneously as the only D-Day. Not only that, some people think that D-Day only refers to the American landing on Omaha. This is also incorrect.
Some people need to stop watching Saving Private Ryan or playing Call of Duty, and pick up a book.
