Only about 200 of the 262:s ever made into combat, and their official record is 509 Allied Planes downed against about 100 losses. Franz Schall dropped 17 Aircraft with the 262, including 10 Mustangs.
And Nowotny, he was sucker punched when he was landing. What a victory.
Yeh. that was just wrong. Hitler had some good Ideas. One of which was the VW Beetle #1 selling car of all time. He also didn't want the Bizmark to go in the Atlantic (this was done behind his back) now it rest on the bottom...All and all everything was too little too late. Lost in a state of confusion.
Ok, maybe he wasnt an idiot, but he should leave the Wehrmacht in Generalns hands. Wehrmacht had still a chance, Hitler did so He didnt do that, he wanted though a man does not need a specific education to be a general. Not Wehrmachts generals led them to defeat, hitler did it.

I've seen gun cam videos of American pilots in P51Ds shooting down Me262s. And really, the Me262 wasn't that great anyway, the spitfire and mustang could out preform it easily. It had speed as an advantage and that's about it. Even before the war just about every single country except the USSR had a jet fighter prototype, including Italy, the USA and the UK. I really don't get the rigamoruf everyone gives to the Me262, it really wasn't that great of a fighter.
Hitler didn't have anything to do with the fact that Me-262 come so late to war. Me-262's engines would have worked better if it was taken in service before 1944? it's engines were notoriously unreliable.
That is true, but he had a major influence in keeping the plane from being used as a fighter. If you look at the numbers Germany made and used, and look at the numbers used as fighters its amazing. And even with that, the few that flew as fighters did, courtesy mainly of Adolf Galland. I am not part of the 'Hitler was solely responsible' crowd when it comes to military matters, but here that is a face.
Messerchmit knew how to build this plane even at the beginning of the war. The same goes for most of the German weapons and war machines. Bad thing is that Hitler was a complete idiot, with absolutely no knowledge of how to win a war whatsoever. The best decision the Allies could make was to not assasinate Hitler. If they had done that, Germany would have won. Obviously not in 1945. It could have streched to 1946 or 1947, but eventually, the Allies would have been subdued.
Even if the Gremans were able to mass produce this weapon they still would not have won. Germany would have been turned to ash by firebombing. Also in 1946 and 1947, the United States would have been using atomic weapons regularly.
In that case, don't you worry, Germany would have also produced atomic bombs. They knew how to build atomic bombs before the Americans did, using "heavy" water, which they produced in Norway. But they agreed that atomic bombs were not the solution to this war. The American bombs that hit Nagasaki killed mainly civillians, rather than important strategic points.
But they ended the war, a strategic goal. In any case, the allies destroyed the germans means of producing fissiable material. WWII was a war of production, one in which the Germans were greatly outclassed by the Soviet Union and, especially, the United States.
What, the atomic bombs? Yes, they ended the war with the Japanese. And by that time, it was too late for Germany. I know it was a war of numbers ( mind you, Russia had more soldiers than USA and Britain ), but that wouldn't have been so important if Hitler was not in power. He constantly and deliberately stoped his generals from doing their job.
Yeh, they could have won on the Eastern front and maybe taken Britain. But there is no way he could have gotten his armies across the Atlantic and into the United States.
No? Then you are forgeting that Germany also had sea superiority during WWII. With all the resources taken from the Soviet Union, they could have built enough carriers and warships to whipe out the US. And don't talk about "he" as in Hitler. He was a complete lunatic and idiot and could have never won the war.
Sea superiority? Uboats and two advanced battleships. Thats not sea superiority. A single American Fleet, the fifth fleet, or Task Force 58, was compromised of seven large carriers, including the Essex class, and eight light carriers. Along with escort carriers, battleships, cruisers, destroyers and other ships, this was larger than the entire German navy. Germany was a land power, but with small navy and and air force, it was impossib,le for them to project their power past the continent
They should have taken care of the Soviets from the start. After that they would have got plenty of time to develop their armies in order to pass the Atlantic.
armies dont cross oceans navies do. They couldn't even get across the English channel, much less the Atlantic Ocean. During all of WWII, there was only one attack on the mainland United States. That was ballons from Japan.
By armies I meant forces, men and war machines, In case you didn't understand. US wasn't a target for Germany during the war. And they would have proabably stoped after conquering Europe. But if that makes you believe that US was untouchable, you're wrong. Also, if I'm correct, it was the Germans that first used the paratroopers, the Fallschirmjager. So they could have used them against strategic US points from the beggining. Like I said, US was not a priority.
Whatever. We both agree that Hitler was an idiot. German paratroopers were only really used one time. That was a Crete. The German airborne doctrine was screwed up. Americans perfected it and used it to great succes with the exception of Sicily and Market Garden.
You mean the Paratroopers only did one AERIAL mission... They were deployed on the field as infantry many, many times after Crete. One such event was the city of Carentan during D-Day, which held a regiment of Fallschirmjager.
This jet could been key to victory or one of them wth nazi helicopter and many other what our friendly americans and stealing ruskies taked and made theyr own speciemens.
Of course they did. Plus the V2. And just a small country compared to Russia and USA who basically just built on German jet and rocket technology after WWII.
The allies had about the same level of technology, and they were able to mass produce their weapons. The Germans never got off to a total war footing in terms of production until it was too late, and you can blame that on good old uncle Hitler. The germans were successful on the the battlerfield because they 'used' their weapons better, not because they had 'better' weapons.
the german political leadership did a crucial mistake: the war was almost lost, ironore supply from Sweden was threatened and the oil fields were under Soviet control. but the german engineers were not ordered to invent cheap, easy to produce weapons that would have been suitable for the conditions of the late war and could in fact bring the allies advance to a hold. instead they worked on jet engines and super heavy tanks, weapons that would never see mass production.
@metallicaG22 exactly how much crack do you smoke dude? germany used more horses than Napolean did to invade Russia way back in the 18oo's. How much trouble does it take to manufacture trucks?
@metallicaG22 thats not true hehe :) germany had a very very large capability of mass production for tanks planes and everything. all the inventions just came to late. :)
I haven't study this subject as I would had like but all this material saying that the Nazis had more advanced technology is of course true but the allies had also other technologies being developed to use in case of need, to me the Nazis did not mass use their latest advanced machinery which was superior then anything available because they just didn't need it since they were doing well on the WAR but in Russia they lost too many troops too quickly because of the winter and change quickly ended
Problems with the Engines caused the initial delay to Me-262 production. Hitler delayed production for another 9 months by requesting its conversion to a bomber role. More delays were caused due to the fact that the Me-262 required specially built concrete runways for take-off and landing. It entered service in july,1944. With 4x30mm MK108 machine guns and a carrying capacity of 24 R4M rockets it was perhaps the most heavily armed fighter of WW2.
Hitler was such an idiot! Instead of using this hell of an awesome baby as a fighter, he dictated it to be a STRIKEBOMBER (!!!!!). Naw, on the other hand it's better for mankind that we lost though....

Japanese titles. I like that. If I misunderstood something. I can read it in subtitles :))). Schwelbe is so cool. It was the best aircraft available (Because lack of axial compressors in jet aircraft) to end of 50's. . That means for 17 years. And that means a lot in aircraft industry.
This is CHINESE subtitle. Not Japanese. You understand some of them because Japanese are modified Chinese language, and japanese are still using thousands of Chinese characters.
Today it seems we only exploited that what was made in those critical years, strang that most of the greatest technology was created by the loser and then exploited by the winners up to this day... will it require another great war to make another major jump forward?
Actually, you're both wrong. The reason the Me262 was delayed because hitler wanted to turn it into a bomber, much to the chagrin of the top flying aces of the Luftwaffe.
There was that and the fact many fighter projects were delayed because he wanted a Jet Bomber more then a Jet Fighter because he wanted to bomb london. Oh shouldnt use the term fighter because he hated it.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKAAAAAAAYYYYYYY MR DEFENSIVE!!! Geez! 88? Were you BORN in 88? Let's see...um...I wonder... HH? Heineken Heineken? Hubert Humbsley? Nooo... AHA! Heil Hitler! Oh come-on! Who do you take me for? A drunken British historian?! And where did you get the idea I was a fucking racist anyway? God, if youd've at least posted an intelligent reply!
88 can mean alot of things. I like flak-88's. So I posted 88 after graveland. Whats so wrong about that. You could be a drunken brit historian if you tried a little harder lol. You called me nazi. I resent that lol. My great grandfather fought & died for his nation just like sons & fathers did in the US.
No, Gravelandx88 is mostly right...the Messerschmitt Me-262 was a FAR Superior Aircraft to EVERYTHING that the Allied Forces could come-up with or Already had...Had Adolf Hitler not tried to Invade Russia (where Half of his troops were being picked-off by Red Army Snipers and the other half were freezing to death) then Adolf Hitler would've released the Messerschmitt Me-262 on Schedule
Well, they kinda did -- they just ended up building rockets for the United States and experimenting with mind control in American universities. It's all exceptionally well documented in the US National Archives amongst other things... not to mention Heinrich Muller, ex head of the Gestapo being brought to Washington by request of Truman himself.
the resource to build an a-bomb where not in the budget of nazi germany, knowing funds would have to be diverted away from other weapons being produced, snorkel u-boats, V2's, jet programme...also when the splitting of the atom was explained to Hitler, scientist did not know if the chain reaction could be controlled or continue on and destroy Russia as well as Germany, Europe as no evidence was available to confirm this scientific discovery
mh i think u guys cant read i never said that germans developed the a-bomb i said the american did thanks to the germans and that absoluetely true , alber einstein helped them alot, its more that germans needed a lil bit more time to get the a-bomb , after the americans brought the german scientists to america they could finish the a-bomb, german scientists had even plans for making a a-bomb rocket... a v2 with nuclear head
Germany was not even close to developing a workable A-Bomb because they realized it could not be ready in time to affect the war. If they had had the resources both human and materially, they might have gotten somewhere. The Americans were way ahead of them, because of the rushed, Manhattan project, though they didn't realize it until later. BTW-America's top scientists were Jewish. Ironic isn't it?
America developed the a-bomb thanks to german scientists everybody knows that , because germany started a secret project to develop a new massive destruction, so america got the base information and the germans finished it
Note true. Germany was in fact 6 to 10 months behind the Americans, a fact discovered AFTER the war when the allies inspected German laboratories. Robert Oppenheimer, an American, was the director of the Manhattan Project to build the A bomb and no German scientists were involved. To prove me wrong, state the name of 1 German scientist that directly worked on the Manhattan Project.
He is not saying that any worked on the Manhattan Project. He's saying that German Scientists had a hand in it, which they did. Along with many other European Scientists. This includes Lise Meitner and Otto Robert Frisch and most famously Albert Einstein. All of whom were German Scientists, who were mostly involved with proving Nuclear Fusion was possible in the first place.
WTF are you talking about??? Germans NEVER finished the bomb... both country had parallel development. Again, state 1 German scientist that worked on the Manhattan project.
do u even have half a brain? what happened to albert einstein, the guy that even a high school dropout would know and i just started high school. lets put it this way, germans came up with the general concept of an atomic bomb, but the americans worked faster than the germans in the actual development.
germans would won the war if they had the a-bomb and they were really close , i know it sounds scary and yes it would have been really scary. But then the american arrived stoled the whole 3 reich technology including the scientists and said that they invented everythin, thats poor
germany had lost the war, [politically, the day they stated it. millitary wise at stalingrad. i was told that by a former german commander who later became a senior commander in nato.
Politically, they couldn't have lost the war. Unless you're talking about the ideology behind it(Killing jews). But they seemed to have garnered the attention of an entire nation and made people believe, even though Germany could have had a democracy or something like that.
The Nazis would not have won the war because many of their designs were born of desparation and too diverse in organization. The British Meteor entered RAF service one week before the Me 262. The Americans had the F 80 Shooting Star flying in secret in California. And many other reasons.
Yes. That was the Heinkel He 178, which was a test prototype, not a fighter. The He 176 was their first rocket plane, with open cockpit and fixed undercarrage. The He 280 was the first jet fighter aircraft, foreshadowing the Me 262.

You have a good day.

Yeh. that was just wrong.

That is true. He intervened to much in military strategy. His generals could have handled the situation without his constant interventions.

MokomaSusi 2 years ago
That is true, but he had a major influence in keeping the plane from being used as a fighter. If you look at the numbers Germany made and used, and look at the numbers used as fighters its amazing. And even with that, the few that flew as fighters did, courtesy mainly of Adolf Galland. I am not part of the 'Hitler was solely responsible' crowd when it comes to military matters, but here that is a face.
bravo45 2 years ago 3
if i remember correctly (some other document) he didnt allowet to build those jet fighters even that pilots demantet to build those..
that was kinda wise decision, othervise we all would be germans now :)

mihaelmartinovic 2 years ago
Messerchmit knew how to build this plane even at the beginning of the war. The same goes for most of the German weapons and war machines. Bad thing is that Hitler was a complete idiot, with absolutely no knowledge of how to win a war whatsoever. The best decision the Allies could make was to not assasinate Hitler. If they had done that, Germany would have won. Obviously not in 1945. It could have streched to 1946 or 1947, but eventually, the Allies would have been subdued.
Sorvos 2 years ago
Even if the Gremans were able to mass produce this weapon they still would not have won. Germany would have been turned to ash by firebombing. Also in 1946 and 1947, the United States would have been using atomic weapons regularly.
waldaddy2010 2 years ago
In that case, don't you worry, Germany would have also produced atomic bombs. They knew how to build atomic bombs before the Americans did, using "heavy" water, which they produced in Norway. But they agreed that atomic bombs were not the solution to this war. The American bombs that hit Nagasaki killed mainly civillians, rather than important strategic points.
Sorvos 2 years ago 2
But they ended the war, a strategic goal. In any case, the allies destroyed the germans means of producing fissiable material. WWII was a war of production, one in which the Germans were greatly outclassed by the Soviet Union and, especially, the United States.
waldaddy2010 2 years ago
What, the atomic bombs? Yes, they ended the war with the Japanese. And by that time, it was too late for Germany. I know it was a war of numbers ( mind you, Russia had more soldiers than USA and Britain ), but that wouldn't have been so important if Hitler was not in power. He constantly and deliberately stoped his generals from doing their job.
Sorvos 2 years ago
Yeh, they could have won on the Eastern front and maybe taken Britain. But there is no way he could have gotten his armies across the Atlantic and into the United States.
waldaddy2010 2 years ago
No? Then you are forgeting that Germany also had sea superiority during WWII. With all the resources taken from the Soviet Union, they could have built enough carriers and warships to whipe out the US. And don't talk about "he" as in Hitler. He was a complete lunatic and idiot and could have never won the war.
Sorvos 2 years ago
Sea superiority? Uboats and two advanced battleships. Thats not sea superiority. A single American Fleet, the fifth fleet, or Task Force 58, was compromised of seven large carriers, including the Essex class, and eight light carriers. Along with escort carriers, battleships, cruisers, destroyers and other ships, this was larger than the entire German navy. Germany was a land power, but with small navy and and air force, it was impossib,le for them to project their power past the continent
waldaddy2010 2 years ago
They should have taken care of the Soviets from the start. After that they would have got plenty of time to develop their armies in order to pass the Atlantic.
Sorvos 2 years ago 2
armies dont cross oceans navies do. They couldn't even get across the English channel, much less the Atlantic Ocean. During all of WWII, there was only one attack on the mainland United States. That was ballons from Japan.
waldaddy2010 2 years ago
By armies I meant forces, men and war machines, In case you didn't understand. US wasn't a target for Germany during the war. And they would have proabably stoped after conquering Europe. But if that makes you believe that US was untouchable, you're wrong. Also, if I'm correct, it was the Germans that first used the paratroopers, the Fallschirmjager. So they could have used them against strategic US points from the beggining. Like I said, US was not a priority.
Sorvos 2 years ago
Whatever. We both agree that Hitler was an idiot. German paratroopers were only really used one time. That was a Crete. The German airborne doctrine was screwed up. Americans perfected it and used it to great succes with the exception of Sicily and Market Garden.
waldaddy2010 2 years ago
didn't the nazi's begin developing jet bombers at the time so that after they captured britain they could attack the east coast of US?
contractki11er 2 years ago
You mean the Paratroopers only did one AERIAL mission... They were deployed on the field as infantry many, many times after Crete. One such event was the city of Carentan during D-Day, which held a regiment of Fallschirmjager.
FullMetalOvercoat 2 years ago
Actually, sorry disregard that. They were used for multiple airborne operations, and after Crete used as Ground Infantry.

Of course they did. Plus the V2. And just a small country compared to Russia and USA who basically just built on German jet and rocket technology after WWII.
barknet842 3 years ago
The allies had about the same level of technology, and they were able to mass produce their weapons. The Germans never got off to a total war footing in terms of production until it was too late, and you can blame that on good old uncle Hitler. The germans were successful on the the battlerfield because they 'used' their weapons better, not because they had 'better' weapons.

@metallicaG22
the german political leadership did a crucial mistake: the war was almost lost, ironore supply from Sweden was threatened and the oil fields were under Soviet control. but the german engineers were not ordered to invent cheap, easy to produce weapons that would have been suitable for the conditions of the late war and could in fact bring the allies advance to a hold. instead they worked on jet engines and super heavy tanks, weapons that would never see mass production.
Schensue 1 year ago
@metallicaG22 exactly how much crack do you smoke dude? germany used more horses than Napolean did to invade Russia way back in the 18oo's. How much trouble does it take to manufacture trucks?

datzfast 1 year ago
I haven't study this subject as I would had like but all this material saying that the Nazis had more advanced technology is of course true but the allies had also other technologies being developed to use in case of need, to me the Nazis did not mass use their latest advanced machinery which was superior then anything available because they just didn't need it since they were doing well on the WAR but in Russia they lost too many troops too quickly because of the winter and change quickly ended
ElPeruanoUFO 3 years ago
Problems with the Engines caused the initial delay to Me-262 production. Hitler delayed production for another 9 months by requesting its conversion to a bomber role. More delays were caused due to the fact that the Me-262 required specially built concrete runways for take-off and landing. It entered service in july,1944. With 4x30mm MK108 machine guns and a carrying capacity of 24 R4M rockets it was perhaps the most heavily armed fighter of WW2.

TheHedge007 4 years ago
the resource to build an a-bomb where not in the budget of nazi germany, knowing funds would have to be diverted away from other weapons being produced, snorkel u-boats, V2's, jet programme...also when the splitting of the atom was explained to Hitler, scientist did not know if the chain reaction could be controlled or continue on and destroy Russia as well as Germany, Europe as no evidence was available to confirm this scientific discovery

Bullettube 4 years ago
they were italian, not jewish. or lets say italian jewish....
rdm38 4 years ago
America developed the a-bomb thanks to german scientists everybody knows that , because germany started a secret project to develop a new massive destruction, so america got the base information and the germans finished it
adwi123 4 years ago
UTUBESUCK666 4 years ago
He is not saying that any worked on the Manhattan Project. He's saying that German Scientists had a hand in it, which they did. Along with many other European Scientists. This includes Lise Meitner and Otto Robert Frisch and most famously Albert Einstein. All of whom were German Scientists, who were mostly involved with proving Nuclear Fusion was possible in the first place.
Wooboo 4 years ago
Many escaped germans helped America developing the A-bomb. The most famous of all was Albert Einstein.
Cre7tiv 4 years ago 6
WTF are you talking about??? Germans NEVER finished the bomb... both country had parallel development. Again, state 1 German scientist that worked on the Manhattan project.
UTUBESUCK666 4 years ago
do u even have half a brain? what happened to albert einstein, the guy that even a high school dropout would know and i just started high school. lets put it this way, germans came up with the general concept of an atomic bomb, but the americans worked faster than the germans in the actual development.
theothercanadian 4 years ago

The Nazis would not have won the war because many of their designs were born of desparation and too diverse in organization. The British Meteor entered RAF service one week before the Me 262. The Americans had the F 80 Shooting Star flying in secret in California. And many other reasons.
Northside777 4 years ago
Germany built the first jet plane about five years before the ME262.
Kynos1 4 years ago
Yes. That was the Heinkel He 178, which was a test prototype, not a fighter. The He 176 was their first rocket plane, with open cockpit and fixed undercarrage. The He 280 was the first jet fighter aircraft, foreshadowing the Me 262.
