Did you know the laugh at the start is Alison Moyet, it was sampled back from her "Yazoo" days and is from the the song situation, this was never released as a single in the uk, but was big the American dance charts back in the 1980`s.
yeah thanks for the disco tips...can anyone tell me the origin of the macarena? you know who was the first person to think 'ah...right left, right left, right left, right left, right left, right left...and shake. I think that's good'
@BritishAlienCompany Macarena' was composed by the duo called 'Los del río', it was written 1992 and released in 1993, but the song started to be popular around 1995. The dance is like this since I remember, and trust me I'm 22 years old, I'm Spanish and I learned how to dance this song & dance when I was around seven years! xD
@BritishAlienCompany Los del Río were invited to tour South America in March 1992 and, while visiting Venezuela, they were invited to a private party held by the Venezuelan empresario Gustavo Cisneros.
Cisneros had arranged for a local flamenco teacher, Diana Herrera, to do a performance for the guests. Romero recited the song naming her "Ma'dalena". In Andalusian culture labeling a woman "Magdalena" is to give her a faint association with Mary Magdalene as being sassy or sensuous.
sexy :D

We used to do the Macarena as a warming-up exercise in P.E. when I was at primary. Minus the "rocking", of course.

Surely the Macarena is one of those things that Westerners are just born knowing - there is no need for instruction ;)
