*Wince* The video is much less tortuous than some comments. Still, I do hope the apparent urge to make the "touch" has vanished from these two. It is, however, always a positive interest to see enthusiasm and dedication to the Art. So I thank you for posting this.
And you're an expert dellaspada? I hope you're a student of Ramon Martinez and I hope he sees your comments on here. There is a distinct difference between a "classic duel" and a "fight". Master Martinez tends to teach the duelling side of the science. I teach the combat side of it. These guys are beginners for certain and not clean at all but they are doing the best they can with the resources they have. Show some respect. You bring shame to your patch (if you even wear one) when you
This is not a good example of classical fencing. They have no regards to distance, which leads to grappling. They also have no regards to defense. Fencing is the art of defense. See Maestro Ramone Martinez or Maestra Jeanette Martinez if you can find them. Their academy is New York.
I disagree. While clearly it's not the best bout there is it is still an example of classical fencing. Those fencers were inexperienced back then - as You can see by the description. Classical fencing is not just an art for it's own purpose, it's the european martial art, it's fencing 'as if the weapons were sharp' and grappling is the inseparable part of it. Too much concentration on the defence leads to neglecting the offence. See my other vids for a wider view of our school.
Yes. The video is titled "Beginner vs Amateur." It's precisely because you fence as if the weapons are sharp that you base your offense in solid defense. Disarms yes, grappling no. When you are grappling, you are no longer taking advantage of the specific fencing system and your weapon.
Neat. I'm a saber fencer, and it's neat to see the classical roots of modern fencing. I'm used to slashy-pokey-slashy, so this is cool. It definitely looks more careful.
May I ask what smallswords are you using or where are they sold? Thanks.

It alse has contact XD, but if I were fighting, I'd probably go at it dual wielding and using feet, so I can see how it would be more realistic.
