charlie glotzback drove from a dead stop to one lap mark at 199 mph and it wasn't a gull wing coop , it could seat four people compfortably if the seats were in it. and you didn't mind a little freash air.
nascar v. F1 can be decided by the camera person. F1 gets something to follow not just pan back and forth, however nascar camera operator for sure gets to drink on the job
No... It's a 4 stroke. Let me explain to you what it is: F1 engines are quite different from your every day engine. They have very large bores, very short strokes. High compression ratios, high lift camshafts, high overlap valve timing, low inertia, low weight internals (very light flywheel)... single injector per cylinder (making it a trade off. Poor low RPM metering to allow for high RPM precision injection). This collectively demands a high idle speed, and sounds like that.
The reference to the Renault F1 engine video that shows fuel injectors spraying fuel into the intake plenum, those injectors are a second set that only inject fuel at full throttle. If you look closely at the video they don't always inject fuel. Some import tuners are now using this same idea with individual throttle bodies and installing a second set of injectors that only operate at full throttle.
they only use 1 "set" of injectors. they turn off and on because well..when you are off throttle there is no reason to dump fuel into your engine.
they are placed on top of the individual cylinder runners because it gets better fuel atomization before it enters the combustion chamber. the "import tuners" who are using multiple injectors are generally drag engines using multiple forms of forced induction, and they need the extra fuel to compensate.
@kamin28 no.....the injectors in formula 1 cars are placed above the intake manifolds so that the fuel can mix with more air and get a higher rev and power...........e
I was thinking. Instead of having air rush in though the intake syteam to fill the vacum. Instead the air should get injected into the cylinder like fuel injection. I know they already have air pumps for emmisson controle. This design would precisley shoot the air in the cylinder, there would be no need for a intake systeam or throtle body plus complete 100% "volumetric efficiency" and air would'nt have to run though the intake syteam maze. What do you think?
It's called a turbo/super charger. And yes you still need an intake to filter and direct the air from the fresh source (outside) into the engine area.
It sounds like you want a mini air pump for each cylinder - but a turbo/supercharger does that for you. Combine With ITBs and you can meter each one exactly for example the Nissan GTiR SR20DET :)
Turbo/Supers can generate over 100% VE even in the most primitive forms. Engineering air pumps for each cylinder is going to be more wasteful, or horrendously complex!
You can't really "delete" an intake manifold unless you have raw ITBs, in which case you would need "air pumps" for each cylinder!
The reason you dont do that...is because you want cold air going in.....and anything feeding directly into a F1 engine cylinder would be hot as hell cause of the exhaust which is why you wont find injectors going into the cylinder on F1 engines.......they inject it into the intake. To see what I'm talking about on the fuel injectors search "Renault F1 Engine"....in the video it looks like a mist is being injected directly into the intake.....its actually the fuel injectors.
Engines consume alot of air and a car would not possibly be able to hold enough air to run for more than a few minutes. Other than that, great idea which is why we have turbochargers which literally ram tons of air into the engine.
they're not closed, they have a fan pumping air into them, the intakes are only useful for when the car is moving and getting air into them, when the car is still it need air PUMPED into it by fans otherwise the engine will overheat.
for starters there are no hydraulic lifters. valvetrain is normal twin cam-shafts per bank 4 poppet valves per cylinder with pneumatic valve springs to keep up with the revs.
MacGear, you are right and wrong at the same time. you know about engines, that´s clear, but the technical issue not allways describes the EAR feeling. of course you have been at many F1 races, and r/c room.
I won't jump down your throat, it sounds like an r/c car because it's built on the same ideas: lightweight and high torque at high rpm's. An r/c car spins up quickly and at a very high speed compared to the parts it's made of because it weighs so little- the F1 engine is made of super-light parts and produces that r/c whine because it can rev in the 10K-20K rpm range. It's also very powerful and produces massive torque for what it's meant to push, again like an r/c car.
And these engines have very little torque... their strokes are so small that the best only produce arount 250 foot-pounds, that's why they have to have them rev so high, because the gears have to be huge, and also the stroke helps out with that
How fun would it be to drive an R/C car? picture it, being a 2 inch tall person and climbing into an RC car...sweet. Its kind of like real life with an F1 car.
I love F-1, and Nascar, but Nascar is hard too don't kid yourself, try running in a pack of 45 cars at 190mph, like a sexy 20 yo blonde and a athletic 30 yo brunette, both nice to hit just different style. I think the Nascar fans are what is scary to the world. They throw trash around like slobs...been there many times.
woooo, watch out for these nascar guys.... He's making a left turn! haha. nascar is a joke. f1 cars are semiautomitic because it allows them to shift faster you moron! try and find a stockcar that can go o-120 and back to 0 again in under 7 seconds. learn something before you post comments

@robiniroven I don't think you would shit your pants, its just going the same speed as a bullet train. But an F1 car, going that fast around a corner. you would shit your pants
Get out of here you ignorant, backwoods, Jim Crow lovin' peice of trash. Outside of Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, and Jimmie Johnson there probably isn't one NASCAR driver who can even spell "F1".

number1Schumacherfan i agree. cornering speeds have increased due to the lesser weight of the engine, and since it has 2 cylinders it has a lower center of gravity and they can put the engine more near the center of the car.
Compared to last year they have more mechanical grip (prolly bit more aero too due to advancements, all those shitty wings and shapes arent there for nothing) due to different compund tyres (couldnt change em last year) so the cornering speeds are up. From whats ive seen V10s were around 900+ hp, v8s are a bit over 700hp.
Actually i think that the more the weight the better the traction with output of 700hp otherwise they wouldn't use all the aerodinamics appendix they use to get so much downforce, hence weight.
The problem is an issue with momentum. If a car is heavier, it will take more force to cause it to accelerate, decelerate, or change direction, as the weight is attempting to continue moving in the same direction. Downforce only pushes the car down, making it harder to accelerate, but turning becomes easier because the tires have more grip. You always want a lighter car if you can due to Newton's laws.
Why would you say that with a v8 you enter a corner faster that a v10??? Do you know about f1 or you are just talking for the fun of it!? They adopted v8 to decrease the power at every rpm so the speed whatever corner or straight line! Whait another year and we will be on the same laptime than with the v10! Already very close now!
Actually with the input being weight and the output being traction, the laws of physics states that as tires have less weight they have to handle the better the traction will be. Of course you have to account for the power lost by switching to the V8's from the V10's. But I think the V8's are getting close to making the power of the V10's, hence the rev limiter for 2007.
