You all seem to be blaming Jay Kay for Stu leaving Jamiroquai, but you know the real reason was cause of Stu's ego not Jay's. Derrick Mckenzie said in an article he was really high maitenance boy and had threw alot of tantrums against Jay Kay and Toby Smith over what he wanted to do, and he was ditching album recording for seeing his girls like when he used to date Mila Jovanovic (her from Resident Evil). He apparently argues with Mark Ronson alot right now. Was all his own fault...
he left because he got no credit for his writing or the production work.JK claimed the lot..most of the production was done by stu,as you can hear the huge differance when he left.not about money stu just wanted credit for his work...great player but his groove sets him apart.nice feel and touch to his playing.
@ridgebackdk Zender wrote very little in terms of music and lyrics for the whole band, he did a litle bit on Return of the Space cowboy and had a couple of unreleased tracks like "Stu's Tune", but Toby Smith and Jay Kay were the writers, and they got the credit for it, deservedly so, but your 100% right about the band dipping after he left, he had the ability to bring their music to life...
@danathor99 maybe thats true i only said that because its more or less what he said in an interview for "bass" mag..the interview was said to be more or less his side as to why he left he claims he did most of the writing and arangements and the production work..whos to know really..having said that when you listen to the band when he was there to when he left..ego is i think a part of being a musician both the good and the bad..
@ridgebackdk It is such a shame though, Jay, Stu and Toby together are some of the greatest musicians of their generatioin, and the likelyhood is that we won't ever see them perform together again :/
@danathor99 thats true..time will tell..hope they can someday work it all out....check out the brand new heavies if you dont know them..nice funk grove and class bass tracks so its all good:)
JAY KAY is a Fool.... Obviously.. Listen to the joke of a bass player his trashness replaced bass jesus with... there is no comparison to the bass work of Zender on space Cowboy on any non zender JamiroJOKE album.... Jay... U lost a fan, and created a hater forever over your arrogance, IGNORANCE, and lack of quality bass player assessment.... JAY KAY is a obvious Imbecile.... U ruined the best thing going over your Ego Jay..... Eat a dick Jay Gay
@egbertddd i understand why your think he's ignorant and overly egotistical, but (this is just a thought) maybe Jay Kay actually brought the best out of Zender i mean i see his recent works all his post jamiroquai stuff and none for it, for me, matches up to his level when he was jamiroquai.
@alexowain yes, with jamiroquai, it was greater than the sum of its parts. that's true for any good band. but i think the real truth here is that the bands he's been in since do not demand that sort of playing. he's toned it down for that reason, not because he can't rip it on bass anymore.

I actually think zender didnt put as much work in as jay kay because jay kay is the main singer which means he must write all the vocals, respect to stuart zender though
