  • great bassist, but very similar to Mark king's playing style, not sure who was first though

  • The song at 0:53. What is it?

  • @93MrFerre This song is called "The Kids", from The Return of Space Cowboy album ;)

  • can someone give me a list of all the songs played in order please! i need to look them up! Thanks!

  • First song? I cant find it anywhere..

  • @MrBassakos Which one? High Times?

  • Es un dios

  • whats the song in the intro

  • @ninja4life6 High Times.

  • You all seem to be blaming Jay Kay for Stu leaving Jamiroquai, but you know the real reason was cause of Stu's ego not Jay's. Derrick Mckenzie said in an article he was really high maitenance boy and had threw alot of tantrums against Jay Kay and Toby Smith over what he wanted to do, and he was ditching album recording for seeing his girls like when he used to date Mila Jovanovic (her from Resident Evil). He apparently argues with Mark Ronson alot right now. Was all his own fault...

  • He's a great bass player. It's unfortunate that he's no longer apart of Jamiroquai.

  • he left because he got no credit for his writing or the production work.JK claimed the lot..most of the production was done by stu,as you can hear the huge differance when he left.not about money stu just wanted credit for his work...great player but his groove sets him apart.nice feel and touch to his playing.

  • @ridgebackdk Zender wrote very little in terms of music and lyrics for the whole band, he did a litle bit on Return of the Space cowboy and had a couple of unreleased tracks like "Stu's Tune", but Toby Smith and Jay Kay were the writers, and they got the credit for it, deservedly so, but your 100% right about the band dipping after he left, he had the ability to bring their music to life...

  • @danathor99 maybe thats true i only said that because its more or less what he said in an interview for "bass" mag..the interview was said to be more or less his side as to why he left he claims he did most of the writing and arangements and the production work..whos to know really..having said that when you listen to the band when he was there to when he left..ego is i think a part of being a musician both the good and the bad..

  • @ridgebackdk It is such a shame though, Jay, Stu and Toby together are some of the greatest musicians of their generatioin, and the likelyhood is that we won't ever see them perform together again :/

  • @danathor99 thats true..time will tell..hope they can someday work it all out....check out the brand new heavies if you dont know them..nice funk grove and class bass tracks so its all good:)

  • what happened? why'd he leave?

  • @Editor02Channel problems with jay kay (the singer)

  • @kaBASS2009 did they have an argument or something?? how unfortunate

  • @Editor02Channel its a long history. Basiclly ego.

  • Jamiroquai went downhill the moment Stuart left....

  • REAL MR MOON ALL RIGHT

  • JAY KAY is a Fool.... Obviously.. Listen to the joke of a bass player his trashness replaced bass jesus with... there is no comparison to the bass work of Zender on space Cowboy on any non zender JamiroJOKE album.... Jay... U lost a fan, and created a hater forever over your arrogance, IGNORANCE, and lack of quality bass player assessment.... JAY KAY is a obvious Imbecile.... U ruined the best thing going over your Ego Jay..... Eat a dick Jay Gay

  • @egbertddd i understand why your think he's ignorant and overly egotistical, but (this is just a thought) maybe Jay Kay actually brought the best out of Zender i mean i see his recent works all his post jamiroquai stuff and none for it, for me, matches up to his level when he was jamiroquai.

  • @alexowain yes, with jamiroquai, it was greater than the sum of its parts. that's true for any good band. but i think the real truth here is that the bands he's been in since do not demand that sort of playing. he's toned it down for that reason, not because he can't rip it on bass anymore.

Eat a dick

  • Jay Kay is an absolute fool..... What a pompous turd... How could u go from one of the best bassists ever to the trash they have now... What an egotistical little baby.. If Gay Kay had 1/1000th of the talent and innovation that Zender has he would be amazing... But actions speak louder than words.... JAY KAY is a complete DOUCHE

  • @egbertddd i like JMQ but you're right! Zender is one of the best bassist player in this world and jay kay has a big ego! we can only see JK in jmq's video! when i saw WKR i was like "wtf ?!" that's normal that people still think that jay kay is JMQ! now it's Jay Kay and the band! when JMQ lost Zender and Smith the band lost their true funk! where's the ACID JAZZ ? the last is good but that's all! and know we can see on fb and Utube many jay kay's stans who are insulting Zender! that's crazy

  • Stu, you are just ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • najlepszy perfekt stu ma wlasnie to cos morzna go sluchac i sluchac

  • What song is it at 0:48

  • @alstocko The Kids

  • I actually think zender didnt put as much work in as jay kay because jay kay is the main singer which means he must write all the vocals, respect to stuart zender though

  • @juanreloco

    3 - travelling without moving =P

  • STUART ZENDER NUMBER ONE!!!

  • Stuart Zender and Flea are the best bass players ever!!

  • He's pretty cute too!

  • Stu & Jay. Come on! Can't we let bygones be bygones and just make great music together again? Please?

  • Depois da saída do Stu do Jamiroquai, que trabalho legal os caras fizeram? Nenhum. A época mágica do Jamiroquai era com o grande Groove Man Stuart Zender....

  • QQ stu zender WAS awesome :(

  • he really is indeed....Awesome!

  • Oh my God....THAT MAN NEEDS A DOCTOR.

Where is that bassline at 0:58 from?

  • Kids if I'm not mistaken. From uh, Return of the Space Cowboy.

  • its the clip after the one from the kids! thanks though, its driving me crazy

  • Its an impro over 'Scam'

  • i found out - its from We Gettin' Down live in tokyo.

  • running our of heroes comin out soon guz!!!! shit im so excited!!! zender forever!!!!!!!

  • 0:58 What a horny Bass!

  • He put a new spinn on the meaning "DROP THAT FUNKY BASS!"

  • Sorry guys... but what happened between zender and jay key?

  • OMG Jamiroquai has not been the same without Stuart Zender. Just think if Puff never produced Biggie's albums what it would've sounded like. No tracks like "Juicy" or "One More Chance". Yes, he still would've been an ill rapper, but the tracks would not have had the same feel. SZ gave Jamiroquai that same feel. The "Oh Shit!" factor as I call it. Glad I got a chance to see SZ with Jamiroquai in Oct '97 before he left. Little did I know those were his last few months:o( SZ is the illest!

  • SZ is awesome!

  • 0:49 ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • agreed

  • jay should call him and say sorry.

  • I second that emotion!

  • Comment removed

  • @FEDAIKIDS why stuart left jamiroquai???? what was reason???? sorry for my english but i really want to know :))))

  • @FEDAIKIDS Tooooo Late

  • @FEDAIKIDS What happened again?

  • Great!!! Grande!!

  • grandisimo. gigante!!!

  • Love that old school funky vybe man, when Jay goes, "YEAH...U WATCH OUT COZ HE'S GON' BITE YO' ASS SUCKAZ!!"

    hahahah! And he's English! hahahaha!

    x

  • WEEHEE STU ZENDER!!

  • please could tell me anyone the song from 0:29 to 0:34

  • TIGHTEN UP

    CLUB CITTA, JAPAN 1993

  • already got it but thx a lot!

  • Definitely the best bass player ever. I wish I had half of his creativity.

  • "Definitely the best bass player ever."

I think you may be getting a little carried away with that comment.

  • @kukutata No way...Pastorius is the KING!

  • @kukutata sorry i think Zender is a fabulous bass player, but when your talking best in the World that title goes to Jaco Pastorius or Stanley Clarke.

  • @ricbowenjr billy sheehan might have an objection to that...

  • if he is that hot who is he playing 4 now....? lol

  • He wanted to take some time off from music after he became a father.

  • ur an idiot. LOL :o)

  • mark ronson, also session player

  • Stuart is a good man! Research facts before making comments bro! :o)

  • ...!!! he is doing his own thing!!! different style from Jamiroquai... check it out oh his website. stuartzender(DOT)net

leave the guy alone! he had his reasons to go different ways... later he will rejoin jamiroquai... not now.

  • Stu Zender is a god!!!

    Jamiroquai is maded by stu

    Best groove ever!

    G-O-D

  • Nice tribute to a true bass legend.

As to the question "How good are his successors?".....Just how could ANYONE follow Zender's type of genius?

Stuart Zender was unique and in my opinion, irreplaceable. And sorry Jay Kay but

Jamiroquai seized to exist the day he left.

  • I had the pleasure of jammin with the man inside san pedro prison Bolivia. Sorted

  • Betcha can't be better. Zender is the sex.

  • What song was that at 47?

Anyone know where it was performed?

  • "The kids" from the album "the return of the space cowboy"

  • the kids...

    performed in uga-ruga (japan)

  • love it!

  • Is anyone ever gonna say what song the solo at the one minute mark is from?

  • It's from the song "We Getting Down" from a Tokyo '95 bootleg.

  • @kdko looks like a song from the band "A tribe called quest", named award tour

  • The best thing about this guy is that he is not about doing weird fast stuff but playing with heart, soul and lots of class and elegance! Following the line set before by Mark King and others, bravo!

  • Is that an improvised bass solo at the 1 minute mark? If not, then i wanna know the name of that song!

  • please i want to see an entire solo!~!!

    ESPECIALLY THE ONE AT 0:20!!!!

  • I miss Stuart!!!!!

  • He was the band

when he left the band, jamiroquai changed and became more mainstream

  • Dosen't have rappers delight cover :(. Great exsample of his playing

Anyway, a good bass player is one who supports an ensemble well. One that can do anything and does it in the right time and place. Knows when to be simple and when to be hardout

Another great bassist is James Jamerson. LEGEND

  • One thing i hate about uTube is all the he is better than so and so threads.

BOTH Stuart and Flea are awesome in different and inspiration ways, thats enough.

If you see music as a competition you have missed the entire point.

  • The best damn comment made on youtube so far!! Nicely pointed out. Everyone is a critic huh!!

  • I love this, Stu is funk!

  • i used 2 be into rhcp, but in my opinion i still go for Zender lol.

  • One great bass player (better than flea from RHCP).

  • :D You are only kidding...Stuart Zender is great, but Flea is better than SZ ...watch Coffee Shop, Get On top, Get up and jump or Around the World (videos) and than claim who is better ;)

  • it's all opinion. no one is better than another at that level..just your preference. i will say that stu's lines are incredibly tasteful and take you to a new place..

  • we want you stu!

  • ohhhhh ....envy!!....he is amazing!!..best goddamn funk bass player ive seen in a very LONG TIME!..should have stayed with Jamiroquai...

  • Awesome!

  • Stuiroquai.

  • Stu ---> Music ;)

  • Stu we love you!! Great work. Paul Turner isnt Bad but Zender was the BEST!

  • I love this songs!! this is great!!perfects songss! check out funkeducation's video

  • check out my tribute video!! you can find it at the youtube search. Your video is amazing! hope you like mine!! see ya!!

  • I wonder if Stuart knows the impact he has had on this generations bass players. Jamiroquai could definitely use him back.

    Bass players rule

  • we missu u stuart..!!

since you left the band, jamiroquai didn't the same..

    please come back

  • So funky ! The legacy of bernard edwards, louis johnson and larry graham continues !

  • "Yeah, that's my man, that's my man... you watch out cause he's gonna bite your ass, sucka" ... I love JK :)

  • Stu's work on "Emergency on Planet Earth" is a joy - he's just singing, in those lines...Even his simple ascending octaves, everything's just perfectly apt & funky-as-hell...

  • yeah he is awesome...

  • What is the tune starting at 0.59 ? Stuart plays some very cool octaves in that part. Does the original video for that tune exist somewhere?

  • Here's a breakdown of the songs featured in this video:

0sec - High Times (Album recording)

13sec - Getting Down (Garden Hall, Japan 1995)

21sec - Tighten Up (Club Citta, Japan 1993)

36sec - Travelling Without Moving (Jools Holland 1997?)

43sec - Stillness In Time (Glastonbury Festival, UK 1995)

48sec - The Kids (Ugo Ruga Ruga, Japanese TV 1994)

58sec - Getting Down (Garden Hall, Japan 1995)

    1min 27sec - High Times (Album recording)

  • Thanks!!

  • Correction: The song at 13sec is actually Mr. Boogie, not Getting Down, same concert though.

  • well well well what do we got here!! jaja its the man that inspired me to play bass well i hope play just 50% that he knows

  • I love Stuart Zender, he is the best. You should check out a guy called SefanoF, he is wicked, the best bassist on Youtube. I say he is a Stuart Zender CLONE!!!

  • he is the best bassist i ever seen

  • I agree.

In fact, he's the baddest...no,the SICKEST bassist ever.

  • The song before it fades into high times, is a cover of we gettin down by Roy Ayers

  • zender est le meilleur bassiste de l'univers :D

  • think it was "rappers delight" before fading

  • if i ever can play like he does, then i will be a bass player

  • i second that!!

  • stuart zender, how I miss him playing bass...I hope someday he plays again with jay

  • What's the last song before it fades into high times?

  • we getting down performed live new years eve in amsterdam.

  • cooooooooooool

  • Thank you! This tribute was well deserved by Zender- The baddest bass player alive! ;)

  • Stu should insure his fingers like that bloke from Level 42. He and Jay seemed very close. I mean, even in the "Cosmic Girl" video, Stu's ridin' shotgun. I hope they can put their differences aside...like Paris and Nicole (LOL)...and get back together someday. There was a lot of brotherly Love there, maaan.

  • this is why i play the bass

  • I agree. Jamiroquai is the only reason I started learning the bass. Rock on Zender.

  • me 2

  • can someone tell me what show was it where stu had a blond hair, did first "Use The Force" and afterwards a very funky line with an envelope?

  • Stu with blond hair gig was at the Garden Hall, Japan March 1995, an excellent show.

  • i oved jk when stu was there but the band bores me now.

  • this is incredible

  • what show was that where Stu was wearing a white poncho outfit? It is shown right after Traveling Without Moving on Jules Holland. Thanks

  • That was from Glastonbury.

  • AZUR went down the pan after Virgin US shelved them

  • stu zender is the best! his style of playing is just great

you know that mad slapping solo that on that video? (part of the club citta '93 gig) he had only played bass for barely 2 years when he did that

    ...wow! :D

  • true!! what about stuart's project "AZUR" ?

  • the guys deservers a bass in gold for his contribution to music, the guy is the bomb!

  • stu zender! the best!

  • STUART > all

  • OMG THX FOR THIS VID... absolutely awesome

  • You said it ! Stuart Zender is Awesome ^^
