Even though the Eremo -- the Holy Hermitage of Canaldoli -- is an Italian national monument, it is still a living community, whose lineage dates back to the eleventh century. At the Eremo is a smaller community of seven monks, but at the Monastero, a couple of miles down the hill, there are 15 or so monks. Hundreds of people (lay, clergy, religious, young people, people of other faiths, and seekers of all kinds) are welcomed to the monks' guest houses every year. A community of nuns is nearby.

L'Eremo è ancora la sede di una communità monastica. Attualmente ci vivono 7 monaci, insieme con altri 15 che vivono nel monastero a 4 chilometri dall'Eremo. Centinaia di ospiti frequentano le foresterie dei monaci ogni anno.
