Love this song! So glad I found it on here.. he's sexy with his voice, guitar and to me he resembles a little "Sweetness" Walter Payton. Classic song!!
Great song...the video though! Primative compared to today's standards but then thats what makes it all the better!!!! Ray's first hit as a solo artist-The Other Woman (#4 1982)
This is the best music I have ever heard. The only time I ever strayed is when my wife put me in the nut house against my will. And this heavy thighed lady blew my my mind. My mental health episode stopped almost immediately. It was worth the crabs. My wife was pissed because I doggied her about 10 minutes after they released me from the nut house and she found about my therapy that enabled me to return to society.
It was "The Other Woman" that helped break down color barriers in the racially charged, "1980s." He was the smoothest operator R&B has ever known, and a man well ahead of his time. Arnell Carmichael was his perfect compliment, but Ray Parker Jr. was the heart-and-soul of "Raydio." His voice is still heard, and his words are understood. His touch shall be felt throughout time, and his artistic gifts will always be remembered and appreciated.
@AngelsOfAsia You are spot on with your comments about Ray. I am a musician myself and I only listen to Ray PJ. He is the reason I learned guitar and saxophone and harp. Now I am really good but I owe it all to RPJ, I wish that everyone could understand how much he influenced modern music. Sometimes when I hear ghostbusters I feel closer God and I need time alone and I cry a lot. Do you like that song you cant change that? That actually makes me get down like nothing else and shake my arms..
@kornelsz probably the ghostbusters song killed his career. I can't believe when i was a child i saw him in stevie wonder's band playing on sesame street! great funk player

Uh, the Pointer Sisters' sound of 1984 was rather different to Ray Parker... Ray Parker comes across more like Huey Lewis... (if for no other reason, think sax...)
70spoprock--I am just wondering on what evidence are you baseing your comment on. In all honesty , i don';t remember ray charles being all that ground breaking.
GBJ11: this is how all songs back then sounded. the pointer sisters did the same thing.
It baffle me that people just post whatever comes into their head with nothing to back it up.
Nope, don't agree. This is definitely riff-rock... not at all what black bands like the Pointer Sisters or Commodores or dozens of others were doing at the time. Maybe you should check your own head to see if there's anything in it.
Some of you miss the point. every band during the 80s was trying to hit with a pop sound and make a video that MTV and VH1 would play. including all the black bands, buy, not all of them were sucessful until Michael, prince, and Rick James later were able to hit that demographic. Raydio was perfect, They pushed Ray Parker out front and it really took off, look at his video. he so stiff and uneasy on camera, but he he looked non threatning . a look that was not easy to duplicate w/other blks.
I heard this song today for the first time in years and I was thinking the same thing....this is some rock mixed with funk....has a coo rock riff with a coo guitar solo....
R&B wasn't more segregated in the 80s. MTV back then just made it seem that way. But the truth is that the top R&B artists were all almost directing their music towards a broader pop audience. 70s R&B was better as was 70s Rock. But pop muisc was at its best in the 80s.
I was speaking "only" about many of the public schools of the 80s, and not about R&B and MTV. I remember the public schools of that day all too well because I went to one myself.
(That is, if your comments were in response to mine)
Racial tensions were high in many of America's public schools during the early eighties, but Ray Parker Jr.'s two hits "A woman needs a love" and "The other woman" helped transcend racial barriers and tension, as both songs climbed straight up the "hot billboard 100" charts to #4. "A woman needs a love" topped the U.S. R&B charts, while "The other woman" peaked at #2. The music of "Ray Parker Jr," as well as his previous group "Raydio," has remained timeless throughout the past 30 years or so.
@70sPopRock But the controversy over this tune and the original vid. probably is what pushed the tune to #2. Unfortunately for Parker: Don't forget Ray Parker, Jr. wouldn't get as high, again, in the Billboard HOT 100 until his hit for "Ghostbuster" reached #1 in the summer of 1984.
This song condones and promotes infidelity. Girlfriends and wives just need to keep their men on tight leashes and monitor them. Tell them straight up that if they cheat whether it be physically in person or online they're history and kicked to the curb. There is no excuse for cheating.
Tight leashes and monitor them, huh? Wow. I thought that my soon-to-be ex was the only control freak. A mentality like yours is a very good example of why men cheat. I'll bet that you don't even put out, do you?
This was indeed real music. You can play from New York to Dallas and get the same reaction. Do you think the likes of Beyonce and Usher can put this type of material out? What about Eminem? I bet he could come close I'm sure.
Beyonce's I Am Sasha Fierece is NOT THAT BAD; my 54-year old mother likes it! But it's most rap, the vocoded vocals and most modern rock that really makes me cringe today. But this is my favorite '80s soul song! It's all happy and fun to dance to!
Too bad R&B in the '80s was more segregated than it was in the '70s; if the DJs on MTV/radio pushed this more into the mainstream, I think today's R&B could have been better than todays which is SO rap/hip-hop influenced! This was one of the FEW crossover songs of the era.
Sweetie, get an education - secular and religious. A truly religious person would not judge or be hateful like you sound. Don't be afraid to enjoy life - including harmless pop songs such as this one.
Why are you watching? You're like the guy who goes to a strip club and when asked why he's there, the guy replies "I was there to get directions on how to get away from the strip club." Sure.
RAY PARKER JR. in my opinion the sexest voice ever!and as 4 the song all ya'll talking shit, know ya'll done took matters into ur own hands like the chick in the song...SO SHUT DA FUCK UP,AND ENJOY RAY!
amos8verse11 you are condemning the people that listen to this song and you are right the message of the song is wrong .I guess you are think you are a christian but your speech betrays you.People claiming to be christians that come across like you are what turn people off to God and church. That is more dangers than the song.
omg this reminds me of going out with friends way back when. it was fun song to dance to, but not a good topic for one. lol. we all knew/know someone like what he's singing about though

Uh, the Pointer Sisters' sound of 1984 was rather different to Ray Parker... Ray Parker comes across more like Huey Lewis... (if for no other reason, think sax...)
HypnoToad72 2 years ago
I think the Girls are more fun in the video than Ray Parker himself!
pannoni1 2 years ago
70spoprock--I am just wondering on what evidence are you baseing your comment on. In all honesty , i don';t remember ray charles being all that ground breaking.
GBJ11: this is how all songs back then sounded. the pointer sisters did the same thing.
It baffle me that people just post whatever comes into their head with nothing to back it up.
madonnafan1118 2 years ago
Nope, don't agree. This is definitely riff-rock... not at all what black bands like the Pointer Sisters or Commodores or dozens of others were doing at the time. Maybe you should check your own head to see if there's anything in it.
gbj11 2 years ago 2
Some of you miss the point. every band during the 80s was trying to hit with a pop sound and make a video that MTV and VH1 would play. including all the black bands, buy, not all of them were sucessful until Michael, prince, and Rick James later were able to hit that demographic. Raydio was perfect, They pushed Ray Parker out front and it really took off, look at his video. he so stiff and uneasy on camera, but he he looked non threatning . a look that was not easy to duplicate w/other blks.

Great song, more rock than R&B.
Kind of unusual for a black artist back then.
gbj11 2 years ago
I heard this song today for the first time in years and I was thinking the same thing....this is some rock mixed with funk....has a coo rock riff with a coo guitar solo....
lonestar225 2 years ago
R&B wasn't more segregated in the 80s. MTV back then just made it seem that way. But the truth is that the top R&B artists were all almost directing their music towards a broader pop audience. 70s R&B was better as was 70s Rock. But pop muisc was at its best in the 80s.
Hibbs4Prez 2 years ago 2
I was speaking "only" about many of the public schools of the 80s, and not about R&B and MTV. I remember the public schools of that day all too well because I went to one myself.
(That is, if your comments were in response to mine)
70sPopRock 2 years ago
You summed-it all up 100%. I couldn't agree with you more!
kris6694 2 years ago
Racial tensions were high in many of America's public schools during the early eighties, but Ray Parker Jr.'s two hits "A woman needs a love" and "The other woman" helped transcend racial barriers and tension, as both songs climbed straight up the "hot billboard 100" charts to #4. "A woman needs a love" topped the U.S. R&B charts, while "The other woman" peaked at #2. The music of "Ray Parker Jr," as well as his previous group "Raydio," has remained timeless throughout the past 30 years or so.
70sPopRock 2 years ago 3
@70sPopRock But the controversy over this tune and the original vid. probably is what pushed the tune to #2. Unfortunately for Parker: Don't forget Ray Parker, Jr. wouldn't get as high, again, in the Billboard HOT 100 until his hit for "Ghostbuster" reached #1 in the summer of 1984.

Not all men cheat. Some are loyal and faithful. My father was loyal, my husband has been, and I know other men who have been (my sisters husbands).

Thanx CanadinLiz01 for the vote of confidence. It is true not all of us cheat.
swt32567 2 years ago
It does promote infidelity. But the real world is the real world. People cheat.
in the old world men had multiple wives. If that wouldn't of changed there would be less cheating. Just my opinion.
bruceleejones 2 years ago
This song condones and promotes infidelity. Girlfriends and wives just need to keep their men on tight leashes and monitor them. Tell them straight up that if they cheat whether it be physically in person or online they're history and kicked to the curb. There is no excuse for cheating.

@CanadianLiz01:
Tight leashes and monitor them, huh? Wow. I thought that my soon-to-be ex was the only control freak. A mentality like yours is a very good example of why men cheat. I'll bet that you don't even put out, do you?
rage1umr 2 years ago
Smothering the guy with constant scrutiny sounds like a sure-fire way to make him resent you.
Like it or not, the best way to keep a man faithful is to keep him satisfied sexually, and to be willing to try new things with him.
If a woman is that distrusting of a man, she is insane for being with him in the first place.

This was one of the FEW crossover songs of the era.
pannoni1 2 years ago
Sweetie, get an education - secular and religious. A truly religious person would not judge or be hateful like you sound. Don't be afraid to enjoy life - including harmless pop songs such as this one.

amos8verse11 you are condemning the people that listen to this song and you are right the message of the song is wrong .I guess you are think you are a christian but your speech betrays you.People claiming to be christians that come across like you are what turn people off to God and church. That is more dangers than the song.
