@neiallswheel Glass is inert to just about everything, so it's handy to have around and copper is inexpensive/easy to use. I think it just comes down to what they have on hand for something this simple.

ie why get specific equipment when your copper tube and glass work fine?

@chris305baller Scientists use Celcius or more precisely Kelvin, which is just the celcius scale moved so zero is the absolute zero-point of temperature. Fahrenheit is an outdated and spectacularly impractical measurement of temperature, only used in a few countries, like the USA or sometimes in Britain.

@JoachimVR The UK use Celsius. It is named after the Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius, 0 °C is defined as the freezing point of water and 100 °C is defined as the boiling point of water.

its Just an easier/more practical way of reading temperature
