I read somewere yesterday that you can test lasers (green laser) with a green led and an ampmeter, well I don't have an ampmeter but I do have a volt meter and I atached a green led to it and pointed my laser at it and it read out 1.7 volts. is there anyway to convert that to mw to find the power?
It's doubtful that you could ever calibrate the electrical output from an LED to ever be a meaningful representation of laser power.. The response is far to non-linear and the optical coupling way too sensitive to positioning.
ok thanks. I just wanted to test my modded laser. when I bought it, it cost my $75 bout 3 years ago. I did the pot mod turned up the power and it was brighter but didn't burn anything. I looked around to find mods and it seems as if mine is diffrent then the ones I have seen online. As I took it apart there are some wires runing into were the laser diode is. I didn't see this on any other lasers, I cut the wire and know it burns black plastic. It will burn thrugh elect tape if I stretch it.
