1986-1989: The true golden years of SNL! It was still funny from '90 - '92, but it started it's decline as the newer cast members began to take over, in my opinion.
Just wanted to point out, in the sensitve world we're currently in -
If anyone other than a bigoted redneck is offended, then that person doesn't get the joke. Not saying that everyone whom gets the joke will think it is really funny, because not everyone has the same 'funny bone', but that person won't find it offensive, because they understood what the joke is.
I didn't realize before how good these three gentlemen could sing or maybe I'd forgotten, but to me, this is funny. I miss Phil.
The campaign to get Phil Hartman onto the Canadian and Hollywood Walks of Fame in 2011 has been launched on Facebook. Check out the Phil Hartman for Walk of Fame page, post your comments or favorite memories of Phil. A link is also provided to the Canada's Walk of Fame site where all Phil's fans can vote for him, no matter where they are in the world. Phil's family is participating in this great event for this great actor and wonderful man! We hope to see you all there, too! Thanks and enjoy!
A cartoon that Phil Hartman created back in the '70s is now in the works by Phil's brother, Paul and his friend, John Paragon! Check out "The Secret World of Edgar Screw Head" on Facebook! You can contribute and have a lot of fun with the page! Also, Google "The Secret World of Edgar Screw Head" to check out the new live site, which is also in the works! Hope to see you there! It'll be awesome to have Phil's work back in production!
SNL was so well written back then that they could make a musical sketch about racist, white power cowboys funny rather than offensive... ok maybe both but I love it.

HOWEVER IF YOU DONT POST THIS COMMENT something bad will happen. NOW UV STARTED READIN DIS DUNT STOP THIS IS SO SCARY. Wow I would have never known it watching this as a kid, but the Liberal propaganda was alive and kicking even then. So white people (I'm not one of) can't have anything to identify their roots with? Cowboy = Racist ??? Funny thing is, I don't hear this much from my black friends...it's usually faggot liberal white guys who for some reason feel the need to hover over everyone else and point out the injustices of the world. Guarantee all of these guys on here says the word nig--- daily -phil..
The true comedy of this has to be in the era also. Think about it: Woody Harrelson was "Woody" from Cheers. We knew him as modest, humble and shy. This clip is more than the skit. :)
I'm only 14 and me and me best friends watch SNL almst every week and most of the stuff is pretty funny....but when I watch these old sketches I always wish Dana Carvey would host the show or somthing just once cuz hes hilarious!!!!!!!!church Lady is AWESOME!!!
This is possibly the sweetest comment I have ever seen on youtube. *sigh* If you like this, why not start at the very beginning of SNL and work your way forward (you can Netflix or rent all of it!). You won't be disappointed! PS - the Phil Hartman/Dana Carvey/Jan Hooks era was that of my youth, and I will alwaus have a soft spot in my heart for the Church Lady :D
SNL sure isn't what it used to be. I started watching in in 1990 when I was 13 and today's episodes definitely pale in comparison. I remember seeing this sketch for the first time in '92 and laughed my ass off. Other notable sketches I loved including Charles Barkley's monologue where he (literally) kicks Barney the dinosaur's ass in a basket ball game. lol Loved the ''Deep Thoughts' with Jack Handey segments. Dana Carvey's 'Church Lady', and.....there's way too many to mention. ;)
Has anyone else ever seen the other cowboy skit? It was one of my favorite SNL skits of all time, and I can't find it anywhere. It didn't have Woody in it. They sing about how they're going to be better cowboys.
@johnathanjericho you don't need to be rude. there are some that would think you were an idiot because you think snl during phil hartman was funny. they would think that anything other than the the first five years was garbage and they'd be wrong. every era of snl has something to contribute and don't you forget it!
from someone that has watched the show for 35 years and loved it all. even the 1980 season.
what year was this and can anyone suggest some more snl to search. i'm from uk and love watching these sketches although some of it is lost in translation, really like the songs so if anyone knows any classics on here reply to me. cheers people.
If you are looking for a good sketch, search "Threw It On the Ground". It is a new sketch that came out just this year, but an instant classic. Even if you are British you should find it funny.
Also, depending on the type of comedy you like, one of my favorites is "People Getting Hit Before Eating".
my personal favorite is "bad idea jeans." try "the judy miller show." oh, and on hulu, look up, "not gonna phone it in tonight." it's very funny. it's a song by steve martin. hope you like them!
lol yeah....bad idea jeans...i remember......so classic...that label on the ass....theres some new sketch where a couple are on a date.......and the girl participates in the conversation ...where every sentence is like a recording from an answering service......ha wish i could fing it....
@MrLuigiVampa When have you ever caught hell for it? I wouldn't bother restraining your ignorance in public. Let the world see you for what you really are. You're not a coward, are you? (:
They did another sketch as these characters where they sang "We're Three Very Lonesome Cowboys"...it's Brokeback all over again. If the uploader has this one....PLEASE post it!!!
SNL will rise again, like it always does, it limps along for years and then it really goes out of sight, then it limps along again for years and then it comes back, kind of like a solar eclipse, they let it limp along hoping it will soar one day again.
I know he was, but he could have been even bigger. When he died, he was basically a popular character actor. As great as he was, it is sad he never got a chance to move past the 'Troy McClures" , "Lionell Hutzes" or the "Caveman Lawyer" personas. (He was wonderful at those don't get me wrong.) He could have recieved top billing on something. It would have been great.
If Chris Rock and buddies had done this, it would be hailed as "Edgy" "Urban" or some such by the mainstream media and reviewers. You could (as mentioned below) substitute members of Congress "Black Caucus" and other assorted liberals as REAL examples by reprinting their speeches and comments. Yippy-Cay-Yay!!!
wasn't there a skit about like people dressed as martin luther king and george washington, and like they were singing how everyones a little racist haha, a friend was telling me that, i'm looking for it but i see no results for it...
