Actually, these deer were really gentle. Even when people ran or shooed them away, they stayed sweet. :)

Atlas Deer. Sitka deer are native to Alaska. These look a lot like an easy meal to me! ;-)

I don't think they're sitka, though they do look pretty similar. I'm actually not sure what they are. Just "shika", Japanese deer. :)

I'm pretty sure they're wild. They roam free without any fencing, zookeepers, etc. For some reason, though, they choose to stay in the boundaries of the park where the people are. (Probably because they get fed every day by everyone!)

Nope, they're completely just accustomed to people, and know that we'll give them crackers if they follow us. :) They're awesome little guys.

I love this...I wish we had deer parks...I think deer are so peaceful and gentle...I wish we could have a park just of deer...this is amazing..what kind of deer are these...

=) Yes, deer are amazing. These deer are very human-friendly, and will come right up to you, nudging you for crackers (sembei). These are the Nara Shika. =) I don't know their exact breed, but they appear in another park of Japan's, though I can't recall which at this time.

Deer don't just wander around Japan. They stick around the major parks, really. =) Japanese like the deer, but it isn't a necessarily worshipped animal, if you know what I mean.

these creatures have a deadly looking rack...yet mingle with children...they are also perhaps 200 pounds each...yet are quite calm and gentle....
