  • Cate Blanchett looks more like the real Dylan than all the other actors that played him in the movie. And she's also the only woman. Funny right?

  • I'll never forget when she first walked on screen as Dylan and my jaw fell open - holy shit she was the spitting image of the biggest crush I've ever had on a celeb! Which of course made me fall in love with that Dylan, played by Cate Blanchett, which in turn has made me seiously rethink my sexuality... Damn it Cate Blanchett, you are truly brilliant!

  • Who would have believed that a woman would give the best portrayal of legendary Bob Dylan?! But it's true. Cate Blanchett gave the best supporting performance in 2007 by far and she was robbed. A magnetic, mesmerizing performance. Congratulations.

  • I'm a big fan of Bob Dylan, but when I saw the movie, I thought it kinda sucked. Some of the scenes were weird and some, I thought, didn't need to be there. Cate Blanchett though, was really amazing. She was the best Bob Dylan in that movie :)

  • Cate Blanchett is a true artist. Bob Dylan is a true artist.... That's what I call GREAT casting

  • Does anybody know the name of the song that plays right after this, where he looks like he's spinning out of control?

  • @tubekyle2 Cold Irons Bound by Tom Velraine. Cover version of Dylan's from "Time Out of Mind."

  • Just noticed the uppity blonde was played by Michelle Williams!!!

  • genius genius genius.

i saw this movie when it came out and i saw it again just now and i'm still amazed.

    what an amazing actress.

i'm a huge dylan fan and i can honeslty say she deserves to play this part and she did it well.

  • am i the only one wondering who the A** Hole is that gave this a dislike?

    Her performance was truly exquisite!

  • @ramses86 It was me. Catch me if you can

  • I love the MERRRRAAA after she runs off

  • Blanchett's simply amazing in the strange role of Jude Quinn.

Technically, she's couldn't be better, but the performance did need more emotional texture to make Jude a grounded human being.

  • I loved this scene. Blanchett was great fun as mid 60s Dylan. Michelle Williams is awesome. Brilliant actress. She's going to go on to do amazing things. Look at how different and convincingly different she is in all her roles! Wow! And she isn't playing Edie Sedgwick but someone based on Edie, so all you people saying she's not like her enough, ofcourse not, it's just loosely based on Sedgwick, not meant to be an identical copy.

  • Avril Lavigne?

    Seriously.....

Thats why she lost the oscar lol

  • I don't think it's too surprising that an actor/actress can pull off an oppositely gendered role. What should be of interest is how truly easy it is for a person to transgress the boundaries of their own gender, proving that gender is far from dichotomous. Cate does a brilliant job at exposing this. She also does a fantastic job at portraying this conception of Dylan.

  • I didn't like the movie BUT her performance was so well done! I wish she was given more lines

  • Now I'm thinking that Cate definitely deserved an Oscar.

  • I love that little "meow!" somewhere around 0:46. Blanchett was totally robbed of this Oscar. I'd give her 2 Oscars!

  • what year was this released ?

  • i've gotta admit: cate really looks the part and moves in a dylan-esque fashion, but she does not sound the part at all...

  • coco s a whore with the sweetst little pussy if you dont count the teeth over properly portected

  • Cate Blanchett is AMAZING in this film.

  • Cate Blanchett is a genious. She's one of the true moviestars of our time who'll be remembered decades to come.

  • For 8 1/2... Fellini...

  • I see a lot of comments putting down cate Blanchett's performance.

It really just seems to be a reactionary.

Basically, if someone props something up, a whole legion has to knock it down. "She's a woman playing Dylan, so what?" . "the facial hair looks fake"

"..she's using bits from his interviews and mimicking them; that's not acting..."

Otherwise, I'm guessing ; no one would "give a tit."

so it goes on the internet.

    cheers.

    ;)

  • Would you do it better than cate did?

  • 4herosskalbaggarna:

I'm speaking on behalf of Cat Blanchett, not against; I thought her performance was stellar.

...Of course I couldn't do better than her. She was perfect for the part; or rather; she made herself perfect. :)

  • Okey. hehe!

    No hard feelings;)

  • I know she's based on Edie Sedgwick. but I don't see it. I've read so many books on Edie and watched so many of her films that I don't think she portrayed Edie very well

  • I was just thinking the same thing, its weird because blanchett did such an amazing job at capturing dylans essence but the potrayal of edie is really awful, absolutely nothing like the person she was, from what I can tell from interviews movies etc.

  • @teya18 She's just based on Edie in terms of being a rich socialite party girl. She's not meant to be an exact copy with the voice and hairstyle. And I know Sedgwick was considered more charming, but in this scene Dylan's character Jude is being disrespectful and vulgar to her, so that's why she's acting like that.

  • I dont think bob would ever talk to a woman that way.

    JeanaDylan83

  • lol i disagree.

  • do you know him ?

  • she is amazing.

  • Comment removed

  • Or just incredibly stuck up to not just appreciate it as a film.

This isn't a documentary, it's a film adapted around the truths and myths of Dylan's life.

Just one question, have you seen the film?

  • sorry meant to get back to you... just didn't like the movie, the acting was soap opera quality at best and it the directing was clever in terms of camera work and lighting, but apart from that just 20-something crap....

    cheers

  • OMFG LOL!

  • LOL!

what does Cate say in the end?

right after the teeth thing and Michelle doing her lil "charming" thing

  • omg her style...her dress!!! i mean it´s definitley not edie sedgwick cause she always had short hair...and smiled but it´s cool anyway

  • It's based on Edie, yeah, it is.

  • definitley its based on Edie Sedwick

  • hahaha, Michelle is amazing! So is Cate!

  • She was robbed, I tell you. Tilda Swinton only won cause the academy felt bad nominating Michael Clayton 7 times and winning nothing, so they threw it the Supporting Actress nod. If anything Juno was undeserving of the screenplay award and Clayton shoulda walked away with that, so Blanchett could have what's rightfully hers.

  • yea juno wasn't as good as they made out no different to the other millions of teen film out there god knows how ellen paige got a nomtion the screenplay was the best out of the whole thing cate already won an oscar so they thought they wouldn't give her another one it isn't the first time better actresses were robbed buy a not as good actress. Angela Basset,Judy Garland....

  • Cate gives such a fabulous performance here. Totally oscar-worthy.

  • Love this movie. Cate is amazing!

  • Reow! Hahaha
