Look, every artist has influences and borrows from them. Copies them blatantly at times. You guys think Zeppelin didn't do it? Of course they did, notoriously. Same with Deep Purple. It's ok...the beatles, Dylan, Nirvana, Floyd, Muse, Radiohead...they all do it. Who cares? How cool is it that some of the kids getting into GIRLS might now be turned onto some of those other bands? I think it's rad! Ad quit this talk about Muse and these other bands being soooooooo much better. That's crap. I love
So many of these folks commenting on this song sound just like a Pitchfork review! As if they've just lifted the words directly from another author. Yes!
This song would be perfect for all those old people who think rock is dead. This sounds like Highway star with a Pink Floyd breakdown. Anyone who says rock is dead is deaf. Girls are proof that there's still amazing things to be done with Rock.
@goodnewsfpwlbn Don´t you mean Knights of Cydonya by Muse, which sounds a lot like the 70´s band like Led Zeppelin and Deep purple, so basicly this song sounds a very much like Zeppelin, and Purple :)
shit. you can tell the dude was thinking "this will be the heavy metal song on the album" it doesnt really work. dude needs to find his own sound.. this is almost as bad as that MBV rip off they did
Me and some one asshole were cutting each other off on the car pool lane on and off and would go around all the traffic just to get in front of each other. All the while this song was blasting in my stereo. Gotta say, shit was real fun and kinda stupid. :D
I like Girls. I don't care for this. The second half is pretty chill tho. I think it's just one of those songs that after you've heard the album so many times you start to really appreciate it.
@irojaguar You have to admit the opening melodies of the verses are pretty near identical - "no one else is gonna be alright" vs. "nobody's gonna take my car."
I forgive them because everything else about this song is fucking boss.
@Goobzie The heavy metal song "Die" is one of my first-- once upon a time, Fleetwood Mac were a heavy, blues-rock London guitar band and they had a song called "Oh Well", which is the direct influence on "Die". Plain and simple, it comes from really liking that song.
this song rocks my socks

@goodnewsfpwlbn You mean without the chord progression or top level song writing? Bliss destroys this song easily...
OH and easily by Muse does as well. Gotta be at least 30 Muse songs that are far better.

I would say it's a citation from Dep Purple's Highway Star. Othewise it would be Pelagius. I don't think they-re doin' it here!

@golluba I'd rather say Deep Purple, judging after the riff. Less PF, the only similarity I see is the guitar tune, but dunno.

I liked this song better the first time when Blondie did it. Listen to "call me" and tell me it's not a direct rip of that riff.
mwaster 5 months ago
@mwaster
What. What "Call Me" are you listening to?
TheRedLightsPage 5 months ago 2
@mwaster There is a slight similarity between the two but nothing close to a direct rip-off. Good tune!

I nominate this song for Riff of the Year 2011.
