@NiniMushu i enjoyed this, and i agree it does sound very cheerful... but i also think that for what mr. Rose is capable of in technique he is lacking in soul. The whole first movement sounded the same.
It's always nice to hear a teacher (Leonard Rose) of one of my cello teachers (Yuan Tung) play. I read recently that this sonata is not really by Sammartini but instead by a Frenchman named Martin Berteau. I guess that's why it has felt more French to me than Italian.
@cellolee My teacher (Ken Lurie) is a student of a student of Leonard Rose as well. Not sure the name of My teachers teacher. Really love this piece Im playing for a recital soon.
@celloman300 Felix Salmond was a teacher of Leonard Rose, if that is who you were wondering. I see that John Sant'Ambrogio also studied with Leonard Rose. John Sant'Ambrogio and Yuan Tung were stand partners in the St. Louis Symphony for a number of years.
