You cannot compare this amazing flying "fire base' to any other helicopter in the world. Too much fire power, too much man power on board, and literally the speed of a jet. If you are "in the shit" , what do you want to save your azz? I chose the Hind. That is what this brilliant helicopter was designed for. "Close air ground support".
Off all choppers in the world, I'm always in love with the HIND, its so amazing in my opinion, I dont know why russia is out dating them, they just need to update the HIND, because most conflicts dont require super heavy duty war anti armor helicopters, the HIND was designed specifically to support ground troops in any situation, and transport them, now in our days, theres mostly minor conflicts where troops are essential to completing an objective.
@usnpilot231 you use the collective control to set the angle of the blades so that you get just enough lift to make the fuselage unstable and then push the cyclic stick forward. If it all goes well the helicopter should start rolling forward and you then use the torque pedals to steer the body.
the Stinger did have a spotty hit/miss ration mostly as a result of sending early generations of the weapon that the US military had already shelved as surplus in favor of better variants.Alot of the weapons we sent were in somewhat sketchy condidtion anyway.The handful of newer variants that were sent did fairly well however.And yes...the Soviet pilots HATED the stinger no matter what variant it was.
That hit/miss ratio is a bunch of crap! Where do you check facts? Stinger was a PROVEN short range man portable air-defense weapon against helicopters in Afghanistan during the 80s. Ask the Russian pilots.. Having said that, any soldiers that have studied the Mi-24 Hind and its variants will tell you that it is an aircraft to be respected. It has serious offensive capabilities that no Army or soldier would take lightly. Any aircraft though, is vulnerable to SAMs no matter the counter-measure.

Actually a Hind is a lot less fly by wire than a Apache, and has a MUCH better manitenence record. (Apache requires 5 hours Maint. for one hour flight)

Anyway, my country used some of these monsters in Iraq.

Actually after upgrade (like flares etc) stingers weren't that helpfull anymore. Afgans dropped more hinds with NSV than with stingers.

The Russians would use the Ka-50 and unlike the AH-64 ir AH-1 the Ka-50 can also be used for Air-Air combat, which it does extremely well.
