I drove for 300 miles to see Maiden with Blaze back in 1997. I always supported the band, as the band and the music are to me more important than any one individual. It was a great show, with only "Run to the Hills" curiously absent from the set. So maybe they should've auditioned a little more carefully and found a singer who could handle the old songs. Michael Kiske's name got thrown around, but he'd've likely turned Maiden into a pop or an AOR band, being that he doesn't like metal.
Only Paul di'Anno can sing Wratchild and other songs from Killers, do not me wrong uh, Blaze is a mega singer just like Bruce.. but Di'Anno is the Boss.
Blaze was great with Wolfsbane, great with Blaze, great with Blaze Bayley. Not so great with Iron Maiden, just average at best. Terrible live though, he could ONLY do Di'anno songs. Of course he did his own era Iron Maiden songs the best. His rendition of The Trooper is horrible. That gives Bruce problems on his best day. Just imagine how Blaze will handle it. Blaze is a cool fellow, too bad people will always equate him as the terrible singer for Maiden. He's more then that.
I always thought the band played the songs way too fast when Blaze was fronting. I mean, where's the fucking fire? This should be about 5 BPM slower.

Since it's made originally for Paul Di'Anno, and both Paul and Blaze have deeper voices than Bruce this acctually isn't that bad, it's pretty good really. But the scream is horrible

This is a hint of what Maiden should have done when Blaze came into the band. They should have gone completely back to the roots. Maiden is a high energy band, Blaze is best singing high energy music (ala Wolfsbane), but X-Factor and Virtual XI were slow and boring. It was a total mismatch!
Omna are u high on PCP when u listen to blaze? To say he fit maiden perfectly is absolutley insane and to blame allergies for his horrible singing is even more crazy. I do not know what they were thinking of when they hired him. He had no stage presence and sang like shit. F him. Maiden is back to world dominance where they belong.

Blaze sounds great here and suited Maiden Perfect.He just had tons of allergies and some of his live performances were hampered but certainly doing dianno songs even when he had allergies are not a problem for him at all only when he does Bruce.Blaze is Much better then Dianno even though i like Dianno Dickinson and Bayley were metal singers and sange them like metal songs Dianno was a punk singer who sang them with thrash metal vibe meaning lil more punk dianno era songs were okay technically
Have respect for somebody who kept the Irons together in a dark period, Blaze sings well, he cannot sing Bruce's songs but I guess he reaches well Paul's tonality. Personally I like this version even if I prefer Paul's interpretation, Paul is Wrathchild, but Blaze's new songs are well sang, he has found his way of singing.
saw blaze perform in dublin in a fucking pub!!!!! sounded fucking brilliant.. couple of maiden covers.. couple of wolfspane numbers too!!.. he still has it (although he looked like meatloaf lol)

The vocal ascension at the end of the solo was pretty sweet, showing his voice can his some of those loud screaming notes that Paul used to do, something bruce didn't quite grasp. It seems Bruce thought it necessary to take a quick scream at the end of a song and turn it into another 5 minutes XD! Up the Irons!!!
Blaze and Paul had kind of similar voices. The difference being that Paul could sing in tune and hit high notes. Blaze is pretty hopeless in most respects.
How could you ever think of replacing Bruce with this clown? This is one of his better songs with Maiden, it's still low grade compared to what Maiden normally sounds like. I have heard several bands in clubs with singers 10 times better than this guy.
Paul is f^&%&*great! I would love to see Paul do a gig with new maiden like at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (Where they Freaking Belong!!!) followed up with a few tracks with Bruce then of course a song or two with Blaze & end the whole thing with all three vocalist Singing "Iron Maiden"

You can tell Maiden were at an all time low during this period. Lack of energy, stage presence, etc. Not only does Blaze do a TERRIBLE job singing this song, but it's evident the rest of the band was just not feeling it. Compare this concert to any of the 2008/2009 Somewhere Back in Time tour and you can see the difference with Bruce back on board. Oh, and all you "new" Iron Maiden fans that think Maidens best era was with this clown, you can thumb me down all you want, I don't give a FUCK.
You can tell that you are not a real Iron Maiden fan, or anyone who gets into who the best singer is. Like i've said, the band is bigger than who sings vocals. And actually the band was sounding very tired with no prayer and fear of the dark, Bruce sounds fed up on them. Steve was angy and depressed around that era, so actually with Blaze singing, it works perfectly on the X-Factor. Even though VirtualX1 is shambolic. But i'm glad the way things happened, now the band is stronger than ever!
Dude, I really think the difference between these opinions depend on how long you have been listening to the band. As you can see, the guys that agree with me have been long-ass Iron Maiden fans (79 an 81) and they remember how magical Iron Maiden was back then. On the other hand, most of the people that like Blaze and their new albums haven't been a fan of the band that long. I actually think it's pretty cool that IM have continued to attract new fans and has not become a "greatest hits" band
Well yeah, I understand that. I can tell how great they were back then, the energy of those first 3 albums were amazing. Well thats not true, loads of long term fans think AMOLAD is one of the their best albums.
I think Paul did this the best, and then Bruce, and then Blaze. I like the Blaze era, but when he goes and trys to do stuff from the two previous eras it just doesnt sound good.

Blaze was a good singer with Iron Maiden - maybe not as skillful as his predecessors - but nevertheless he still sang and wrote some good stuff.
Even Steve Harris admits that when they were auditioning for Bruce Dickinson's replacement vocalist, Blaze was the best out of all that applied for the job.
Stop comparing Blaze with Bruce and Paul! They are all fantastic vocalists/frontmen in their own styles.
Gregory Peck once played Moby Dick and was slated for his performance. Does that make him a bad actor? No, he just wasn't right for the role. Sometimes actors get miscast, as do singers. Most would agree Blaze wasn't right for Maiden, however that doesn't make him a bad singer. So, instead of banging on about his admitedly patchy time in Maiden ( which he left over ten years ago ) why not concentrate on the excellent solo albums and shows he's done since then? Just a thought.
He lost his voice at this part of the tour, very unfair to judge his performance by this gig.

This is the first time I have ever heard him sing with Maiden.There are only 2 singers in Maidens history Paul Dianno and Bruce Dickenson,thats it.

Have respect for somebody who kept the Irons together in a dark period, Blaze sings well, he cannot sing Bruce's songs but I guess he reaches well Paul's tonality. Personally I like this version even if I prefer Paul's interpretation, Paul is Wrathchild, but Blaze's new songs are well sang, he has found his way of singing.

Actually, I like hoy Blaze sings Paul's songs much more than how Bruce does, but yes, Blaze can't sing Bruce's songs at all...I like the three of them, they're all different.

The vocal ascension at the end of the solo was pretty sweet, showing his voice can his some of those loud screaming notes that Paul used to do, something bruce didn't quite grasp. It seems Bruce thought it necessary to take a quick scream at the end of a song and turn it into another 5 minutes XD! Up the Irons!!!

Blaze and Paul had kind of similar voices. The difference being that Paul could sing in tune and hit high notes. Blaze is pretty hopeless in most respects.

How could you ever think of replacing Bruce with this clown? This is one of his better songs with Maiden, it's still low grade compared to what Maiden normally sounds like. I have heard several bands in clubs with singers 10 times better than this guy.

You can tell Maiden were at an all time low during this period. Lack of energy, stage presence, etc. Not only does Blaze do a TERRIBLE job singing this song, but it's evident the rest of the band was just not feeling it. Compare this concert to any of the 2008/2009 Somewhere Back in Time tour and you can see the difference with Bruce back on board. Oh, and all you "new" Iron Maiden fans that think Maidens best era was with this clown, you can thumb me down all you want, I don't give a FUCK.

You can tell that you are not a real Iron Maiden fan, or anyone who gets into who the best singer is. Like i've said, the band is bigger than who sings vocals. And actually the band was sounding very tired with no prayer and fear of the dark, Bruce sounds fed up on them. Steve was angy and depressed around that era, so actually with Blaze singing, it works perfectly on the X-Factor. Even though VirtualX1 is shambolic. But i'm glad the way things happened, now the band is stronger than ever!

Dude, I really think the difference between these opinions depend on how long you have been listening to the band. As you can see, the guys that agree with me have been long-ass Iron Maiden fans (79 an 81) and they remember how magical Iron Maiden was back then. On the other hand, most of the people that like Blaze and their new albums haven't been a fan of the band that long. I actually think it's pretty cool that IM have continued to attract new fans and has not become a "greatest hits" band

Blaze was a good singer with Iron Maiden - maybe not as skillful as his predecessors - but nevertheless he still sang and wrote some good stuff.
Even Steve Harris admits that when they were auditioning for Bruce Dickinson's replacement vocalist, Blaze was the best out of all that applied for the job.
Stop comparing Blaze with Bruce and Paul! They are all fantastic vocalists/frontmen in their own styles.

Gregory Peck once played Moby Dick and was slated for his performance. Does that make him a bad actor? No, he just wasn't right for the role. Sometimes actors get miscast, as do singers. Most would agree Blaze wasn't right for Maiden, however that doesn't make him a bad singer. So, instead of banging on about his admitedly patchy time in Maiden ( which he left over ten years ago ) why not concentrate on the excellent solo albums and shows he's done since then? Just a thought.
