  • John Wayne spent more time in a dressing room getting make-up on than a drag queen!

  • @Helotes420 - You filthy feces eating fags are disgrace to the military. If John Wayne were still alive he would shoot every arse licking one of you and then he would kick down the doors of the Pentagon and beat every fag loving general with his bear fists.

  • That look he have at 0:10 just froze that guy's balls off!

  • @SAM871wkh Don't give me this moral equivalency nonsense. Not every soldier in WWII had a face or a story, certainly not the knights of totalitarian conquest that were the Axis. They were the ones responsible for the atrocities, not us. Trying to create sympathy for the Japanese side in the war is wrong.

  • @STP43FAN1 Nearly every German male from 18 to 40 was drafted into the military during WWII. It was not as if every soldier was a Nazi who hated the Jews and every other race besides his own, most were forced into service and fought for a country whose atrocities they weren't aware of.

  • @TheM4A1Clan Yeah, sure. "Those damned Jews, they won't even let people sleep," is a recorded remark from a German civilian about the trains.

No more moral equivalency. They were the Axis, they do not warrant any sympathetic portrayal.

  • @STP43FAN1 Is that to say that every single German during WWII was an anti Semitic Nazi? And that no one opposed the fascist government at all?

  • @TheM4A1Clan It's to say that the German Army was a force of conquest and genocide and those who served in it were the knights of the Reich. It means they were the enemy.

What is so wrong with accepting that they were the enemy? Enough with moral equivalency - it does not exist in the real world and never has.

  • ''count your toes''

''sir i step on a mine''

    ''count your fingers''

''sir i countered angry jap whit the katana''

    ''count to ten''

    ''YES SIR!''

  • @SAM871wkh Eastwood fails because the Japanese soldiers in WWII were NOT men with a face or a story, they were the knights of a totalitarian killing machine that didn't just kill those in front of them, they massacred their own, most graphically shown during the Marianas campaign and the infamous beachside slaughter of civilians by a Jap sniper who'd been trading shots with Marines and then turned and killed a couple and tried to kill their children and happily walked out to get shot dead

  • @SAM871wkh Marines the world over, and from WWII to GWOT love this movie.

So, if it's propaganda, we don't give a shit. It's an emblem of our Beloved Corps.

  • @SAM871wkh Sanitized by today's standards (i.e. lack of blood) I agree, but other than that how is this film inaccurate? The film depicts the marines suffering enormous casualties and shows how heroism and some improvisation were major factors in survival; and one of the film's key scenes is the ultimate moral dilemma - save an injured brother or risk exposing the area to enemy fire?

How is ANY of that unrealistic? Because the marines believe in their mission?

  • @SAM871wkh Historical accuracy? Eastwood makes the mistake of trying to justify (intentionally or not) the enemy side.

  • john wayne influnced my life as a kid and still is does i spent 3 years of my life in the service one in vietnam with the 101 air borne i earned a silver star a bronze star a p. heart and two citations .i have seen men killed with rockets morters and machine guns but the crulest thing i ever saw was by a doc. in tulsa and i could use your help telling others about these kind of people please seemsbones1950 for more info

  • I was there and it was just like that except with more blood.

  • @SAM871wkh The big difference between those films and this one is that this one was made with men who actually served in the Marines during WWII. The surviving members of the 2nd Iwo Jima flag raising and several other veterans of the battles portrayed make cameos. Further, many of the actors and crew were WWII vets. Also, watching a movie or tv show will NEVER get one to understand what it is really like to fight in a war.

  • @SAM871wkh I like those films that Clint Eastwood made.

  • this movie i watch every nov 10th. it was one of the reasons i spent 28yrs in th CORPS. Semper Fi Bro

  • awsome flick, one of the reasons why i went into the corps,semper-fi mac to all my marine brothers both past and present, get some and stack em up!

  • i didnt say anything you stupid fuck only that was a stupid fuckin line in a lame ass movie who wrote that line retarded

  • stupid fucken line

  • @arniejck what you said is stupid

  • Just for the record, this scene was from the attack on Tarawa in the first part of the movie.

  • The NCO's are the back bone of our Corps. With out them and the training they receive...wow I shutter to think..3/1 Lima

  • strange collection of comments .. the characters that John Wayne played were the kind of archetypal characters that very well represent that American myth that society desperately needs.. his characters were often flawed, complex men, with not a little internal guilt but in the end they rose up and did what they did not because of glory but because they really had no choice.. Sgt Stryker personifies that mythical character very well. People need not be so materialistic, look a little deeper.

  • It would have been a much better movie is Kirk Douglas had played Strycker, as originally intended.

  • john wayne playing john wayne again. Is there any movie where he is not in charge. Where he is not a sergeant, a general, a sheriff etc. This guy played the same bloody character in every movie with a different uniform.

  • @trigga1uk Uh yes to all of your assinine questions .

  • to bloggers: PeterFirthFan's account has been cancelled; now this troll is masquerading as FrankClanton; please report this troll for safety; stalking; and continously talking about his or her perversions on the internet....

  • hey diramonsky:

The only tool is you. you're talking about a movie and trying to say Americans are little kids?? Who are you kidding? So you're saying Americans who fought in WWII are tools and aren't brave? Look at the broad picture you piss ant. Come back when you have an intelligent point of view.....

  • Comment removed

  • please. The little kids are the ones who believe in ufos God and the nonexistance of the Holocaust and that Gays are the soul cause of AIDs and HIV.

  • Wow, figures a John Wayne fan would also be a fan of Holocaust Denial, Homophobia, and attacking others beliefs. You seriously should be in jail.

  • 1. I never made any suggestions to support yout claims.

    2. Denying that the holocaust took place is like denying that WW2 took place. It's just illogical to do so.

    3. I'm gay, so your assertion that I'm homophobic is retarded.

    4. get your facts checked before you post again.

  • The only draft dodger we had was that sorry ass bill clinton but you probably would have voted for him. my guess is your other hero is hanoi jane.

  • KILL YOURSELF!!!!

  • John Wayne did not dodge the draft .. I just did some research and he tried to join the Navy but he couldn't get in.. Why do you lie about history ?

  • Wayne had a prexisting football injury that prevented his enlistment. So he chose to support his country the only way he could think of, and was already involved in. the movie business.

Sure, he profited from it, but he was still promoting and supporting the end of Hitler's racial agenda and the Japanese, "We cannot be defeated" hypocricy.

  • John Wayne 4f

  • The fact that you say you were in VN for a year doesn't make you a hero in my book. What did you do in VN, clean latrines?

  • KILL YOURSELF!!!!!

  • 2sixgraders, son you are definitely not smarter than a fifth grader. You libs are funny you avoid the arguement by crying a spelling foul. You are real panty waists and I believe that is correct sissy

  • The Marine unit(s) that participated in Tarawa eventually landed on Okinawa, not Iwo Jima. Look it up. Great movie but just for the record.

  • Who gives a rats my friend and when did hollywood ever get anything historical right? John Wayne still kicks ass.

  • He was far too old to play the sergeant. They should have cast Kirk Douglas, a REAL hero.

  • Actually there are real heroes in the movie, anyone who knows who they are without googleing wins a prize.

  • John Bardly, Rene Gagnon and Ira Hayes(was he in the film cause I thought John Wayne didn't trust Natives)

  • Correct! Wayne calls them over and hands them the flag. You can tell all the stuff about Hayes not liking fame is true, he just stares at the ground for the whole 4 seconds or so on screen, looks really uncomfortable.

  • he hated ever minute of fame, flags of our fathers was a great book.

  • I saw this movie as a very little kid on tv. It was the first war movie that I remember seeing. It had a big impact on me. This movie kicks ass!

  • @philochs Same with me, actually

  • John Wayne saw himself on Iwo Jima. That pitiful asshole.

  • did yo mummy make you play with dolls too since you did not have the guts to play football?

  • I'm sure your sentence was supposed to make sense , but it failed.

  • 2Six you limpdick liberal pig, you should just go back to playing dungeons and dragons and whacking off to tomb raider. you are as worthless as eunoch in a whorehouse. keep your tree hugging, flag burning, baby murdering ass in canada. home of the pussy pacifists.

  • Well as for "playing dungeons and dragons and whacking off to tomb raider" I'm pretty sure that Americans made those two fuck ups of "entertainment". Second, what wrong with liking trees? I mean they keep us alive after all right?

Flag burning, oh you got me there son. I am Canada's #1 flag burner here, no one can stop me.

Baby murdering? Haha, Americans... Always accusing other people of what you guys do best.

Nice try though, oh and by the way, Bill O'Reilly is on, don't wanna miss it.

  • lame, lame ass comment.......even for an idiot canadian. your picture in you bio makes you look gay. maybe that's the problem. would explain alot. oh well, time for you to go back to never never land. tell tinkerbell hi!

  • Not me there buddy.

  • KILL YOURSELF!!!!

  • How about you? Seeing as though you are 62, you fail to grasp at the fine art of properly spelling.

  • sorry dude but that was Tarawa not Iwo Jima

  • Why does The Duke get shot in the back in every movie?

  • Cause no one's got the balls to shoot him in the front.

  • Well, they could shoot him in the balls, then.

  • what does that thumb signal mean at 0:21

  • at 0:21 he shot a Jap basicly saying he got 1

  • They are at Betio-Kirabati (TARAWA) .. the invasion of Tarawa was November 20th, 1943.. this scene is from the great movie "The Sands of Iwo Jima"..

  • Wow, you're a jerk. Maybe one day you'll understand what that's really like, though. The rest of us can only hope so...

  • Maybe you'll be next. We can only hope.

  • I'd be happier if you did.

  • Obama eats crap

  • You dummy. He didn't dodge the draft. The war department felt it would be better if he stayed on the homefront.

  • No, he dodged, because he wanted his Money and Fame more, Portraying real heroes that died there.

  • Watch Obama boy, you might get cancer yourself....

  • this is Tarawa. not Iwo.

  • no, its the sands of iwo jima

  • but where they are in this particular scene is Tarawa.

  • howdy everybody,

HarveyCarwright is a troll. don't argue back. just ignore and he will go away. ask to the video poster to block him, but don't argue back.

    For more info google:

"User talk:Rodhullandemu/Harvey Carter" and "Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of HarveyCarter"

Check the sock puppet "Sponge417". His real name is EVAN PEACOCK, a teenager from HILTON, NY, USA.

  • he has a new sock puppet, by the way: JohnRogersly.

  • God Bless John Wayne.. he was a great American and did a lot for America..

  • Yep, he sure did! Acted in some movies Portraying real heroes that died there. YEAH HE IS A HERO!

    *End of Sarcasm*

  • hey asshole he was a marine he became an actor who starred in war movies thats what actors do i bet if lionardo di faggio starred in a war movie youd have a naked poster of him in yer bed while sticking a butt plug in your vagina you cocksuckin liberal bastard

  • Search was John Wayne in World War Two on Google. I can tell by your spelling that your not too sharp so I would bother exploding your brain with my rightness.

  • with your rightness hahahaha whatever dude its youtube you really think i give a flying fuck to spell correctly?just leave your trying to make a real man seem like a pussy even if he didnt do wartime he is still a hero and patriot to alot of people so stop trying to make my hero incompetent plz

  • Like I said before

"Yep, he sure did! Acted in some movies Portraying real heroes that died there. YEAH HE IS A HERO!"

    *End of Sarcasm*

  • I wish i knew yah so I can cut off that pussy for a mouth of yours

  • He tried multiple times to get into the Military.

  • No, he got his Hollywood lawyers to secure deferment after deferment for him while older men like Robert Montgomery, Henry Fonda and Clark Gable actually served.

  • John was 32 when the war started and a little old for a grunt (infantryman for you libs). I was 19 when i was drafted and went through tigerland at ft. polk enroute to Nam and it nearly wasted me. Wayne inspired many of us who were afraid and lonely to try to do the best we could because we had no choice.

  • Wayne was a talentless Nazi CUNT.

  • Son, did yo mummy make you play with dolls? You are such a angry little bitch.

  • I think his mom dressed him up as her daughter for far too long. I bet he wore dresses till he was 18., must even still today but that is because he wants not because his mom makes him.

  • Comment removed

  • a faggot brit calling John Wayne a cunt? what a joke. go suck some "chap" dick

  • So?

  • Shut the fuck up Bravo, I'm sick of all that bull shit

  • looks more like TARAWA to me.

  • John Wayne a great American who wasn't allowed to serve because of a screwed up back and the fact he was already 30+ with no military experience, plus the he was more "valuable" according to the War Dept promoting the effort.

  • YEA....everybody needs an idol.

Propaganda created by governments is used on its own population more effectively than on any enemy soldier.

Its A multi dimensional war..one is in the realm of the material and the more important one is in the mental.

Read letters from soldiers on the front lines in any conflict, and on any side and they all read out the same thing..we are the human.

They don't fight the Japanese..They fight the idea of who they think the Japanese are and vise versa.

  • I guess you like Brad Pitt as yo ultimate hero and all the other panty waist libs in hollywood?

  • Jimmy Stewart was a real war hero. John Wayne was just an actor - and almost always played the same stereotypical character ...

  • One of my favorite Duke lines; "I'll do the masterminding around here" he played the part of the experienced NCO perfectly.

  • watever unamerican fags.best john wayne movie ever.save America kill a liberal!

  • The Searchers.

Complainers about John Wayne are TV headed idiots. At this time in history and you don't know what has happened to US in the last 100 years.

Read, it might do something for you.

  • Serious critics, directors and professional actors who know shit about acting--even all the lefties--acknowledge even grudingly that the Duke may have been the best actor of his time. And inspiring as hell.

  • Hey the Boston Tea Party took place in 1773.

  • JW was a paper cowboy who would have shat himself if he ever saw real action. There are NO heros like that in war-- just cursing and screaming and dying.

  • How would you know?

  • "I'll do the masterminding around here" he says calmly with a cigarette in his mouth. Might as well be a cigar and he might as well be on the beach of a tropical island. Not great acting, very unrealistic.

  • John Wayne was a crazy USC player.

  • He didn't go to war!

  • John Wayne was the most patriotic man there ever was and he would have fought if they would have let him.

  • Who was stopping him?

  • The Navy wouldn't let him join

  • Why not?

  • Because they told him since he had a problem were he couldn't here out of his left ear that he could do more to help moral of the people by making movies than he could have by joining the service

  • Ah. But he supported the war in Vietnam. I find it hard to forgive him for that. He also said the Native Americans were "selfish" for clinging to their land, if I'm not mistaken.

  • Sure now I agree with you there what I'm saying is that he would have fought if he could

  • Alright. Maybe its only because he never had the chance to prove himself, but I don't know if I would call John Wayne a genuine hero. He was an actor who played heroic characters. The real heroes are the thousands of men and women who sacrificed everything they had defending their country. Sorry for the platitude

  • you probably the type that believes its okay for the feds to take private property by immient domain but it was wrong for settlers to want vast mostly uninhabitated land. Indians were like the dinasaurs they failed to adapt and besides today they are making a killing at the casinos.

  • His promoter in hollywood stopped him. Told him that his career in movies would be lost. Career above what you believe in. Then continued to make westerns. Only my own opinion, he felt guilty of not serving the USA, he made war movies to make up for it.
