  • Geithner should be hanging from the nearest tree! but that would be too good for him :))

  • LIBERTARIANMONARCHY . COM

  • LIBERTARIANMONARCHY . COM

  • Now I truly understand why the right to bear arms and the freedom of speech are so important. The only way we can take are country back is kick these Nazi/Jew fucks out of Congress.

  • @laptoprepairs Dumbass. Go ahead and sell our once great nation down the tubes once again just as Woodrow, Franklin , and Lyndon have done in the past. Why not let History repeat itself? retards

  • @laptoprepairs So why would your recent post be relevant to this debt ceiling debacle and smoke and mirrors? Oh, wait it is not relevant whatsoever. Go ahead and buy into the media feeding frenzy on Obamas bullshit he uses to frighten the American people into laying down and letting him roll us over just as he did when the majority of Americans did not approve of his Health Care bill when in short he said something along the lines of " For all the naysayers out there(CONSUMERS) this will be done

  • Geithner, you dumbf*ck - DEFAULT would not cost us all, it's the SPENDING that costs us all. Geithner, you lying POS.

  • Another "german" ...why are all US high places occupied by "Germans" ? US air force chief ...Schwartz then Heinz ..... bankers are Germans too, i am telling u Germans always tryed to conquer the world.

  • We need to turn this country around. I want to see that debt clock start going down as fast as it is going up!

  • why not just stop accumulating debt and pay it off and those old people are rich they are leeches the "rich" aka productive are punished by "productive" i dont mean actually productive cause with over 90% unemployment and the few jobs out there unproductive anti-productive sales bs and consumer bs there is no production

  • Lying is in the DNA of the Left. Most amazing is the youth of America voted OVERWHELMINGLY for the THIEF-IN-CHIEF. Remember people, you get the government you deserve!

  • Forget raising it. Lower the debt ceiling!

  • PSchiff, takin' names!!!

  • What kind of leadership do we really have in D.C.? All the powerful leaders in D.C. need to be voted out of office. Obama, Boener, etc

  • What struck me was how blatently partisan Geithner's comments were. I thought the secretary of the treasury was supposed to at least give the appearance of being non-partisan. He was spouting marxist propaganda that would even make some liberals uncomfortable.

  • @ 3:26 , I thought i heard Geightnmer say default was a tax on the people... gee ,thats funny bcz i thought INFLATION was an across the board tax on the people (and not just a tax on this years wealth but on their cumulative wealth)

  • The debt is money spent by congress. The debt ceiling is a construct that does not change one dollar spent. Not raising the debt ceiling is defaulting. Sorry.

  • @337noname Money spent by congress is not debt, money borrowed to spend beyond existing revenues is debt. The govt borrows $0.40 of every dollar it spends. That is not realistic. What is realistic is that they will default;however,it has nothing to do with raising the debt ceiling.Raising the debt ceiling simply transfers who the govt is defaulting on. Rather then defaulting on their current debt holders, they will whip up a new batch of cash and default on everyone who has dollars in their wallet

  • @jdonald05 The debt is money borrowed and spent. It is our debt and we need to own up to it.

  • @337noname I agree! We do need to own up to it. I argue the case that taking out another loan to pay off an existing loan is anything but owning up to our debt. Owning up would mean restructuring our debt so that we could pay it off, not with credit, but with real capital. for instance, take a family who took out a $50k loan for a car, when they really only had a budget for a $20k car. They spent the money. Should they own up to their debt by borrowing more money? Reality doesn't work that way.

  • @jdonald05 Defaulting would make us like the rich family in the neighborhood that walks away from their mortgage because their house is worth less than they paid for it. It is not a good move for the neighborhood or the economy.

  • @337noname I'm not sure what your saying? People do not walk away from mortgages because they want to, 1st you try to sell so you can find a place that you can actually afford. If that is not possible, then you go broke and the bank forcloses on you. That is the problem with your premise, you think he is rich because he had a nice house, but in reality he simply took on more debt then he could honestly pay back. This is the exact same situation the govt is in. You have to ask the question

  • @jdonald05 If you don't keep up enough with current events to know people are walking away from mortgages, I'm not going to waste my time with you. So long.

  • @337noname Yes some of the rich are trying to cut losses with houses that are loosing value; however, that is not an applicable comparison to our govt. You are comparing a wealthy person trying to deleverage his balance sheet with a government that is flat out bankrupt; $14 trillion in debt. In the real world, you can't borrow money when you are bankrupt, and for good reason, because everyone knows borrowing money that you don't have to pay for bills you can't afford is a proposterous notion

  • @jdonald05 Some people think China may be richer that we are. It's debatable. You compare the government to a man with a credit card. It's not The USA is a super power that cut taxes, started wars, and pushed easy money as way to the good life. It wasn't. Now we should cut spending and raise taxes and stop making excuses.

  • @337noname When did I compare the govt to "a man with a credit card?"I have simply using the economic principles and consequences of overleveraging debt as evidence to prove my case that when anyone (person or govt) borrows so much money that it is impossible to pay back, then they are bankrupt.Plain and simple!Just because it is soveirgn debt does not mean the lender will say: oh, its ok if I don't get payed back because it is govt debt. This is silly. insolvency is insolvency, soveirgn or not.

  • @337noname I do agree with you on one point and that is the spending needs to be cut.But raise taxes? No thanks! The American people did not start all of these wars the govt went to war against the people's wishes. The people should most certainly not pay for the unwise decisions that we opposed from the start. It is time for the gov to make some sacrifices! It has doubled in size since 2000.Its time to cut back to a reasonable sized govt, cut spending, end the war, and let the free market work!

  • @jdonald05 I can't tell if you're being obtuse on purpose or you're just disingenuous.

  • @337noname I was just having what I thought was a clean political debate. I did not degrade your character or speak out of line. But if that is the way I came off, then I certainly do apolagize. No hard feelings here.

  • @jdonald05 . I was taught by conservative parents and a small town public school that the American people are the government. For better or worst we vote and decision are made as laid out in our constitution. The debt is our debt. As a fiscal conservative, I don't see default as a good economic or moral option. Sorry if you do.

  • @337noname Do you want the govt to find a house it can actually afford to pay for, or do you want the bank to forclose on them? I choose the first option!

  • @337noname You're wrong. Raising the debt ceiling is to accomodate NEW spending, not money spent in the past. The debt ceiling is like your credit card. If you hit your limit and can't make the minimum monthly payments you don't raise your credit limit, you cut out new spending.

  • @cr113 So it's like your credit card. You spent money and the bill is due. Thanks for clearing that up.

  • geitner is a puppet.. d..

  • I am from Ky and I am ashamed of Mitch McConnell . I am not a democrat nor a republican . But folks when a senator goes on national tv and says his primary goal is to make sure obama is not re- elected? Are you one of those that thinks this man is serving the people?

    Wazzzzzzzzamaddderwid u ?

  • You know when and if somehow things go bad. I hope the electricity goes out so that fox noise is off the air. Followed by rush limbaugh, and all the rest if the republican traiters

  • Thanks for the replies to my comments. I think silver and gold is the only way to protect your savings if you are lucky enough to have any.

I myself personally can not afford gold so I prefer silver. Being poor I don't have much of that. I tried to plant a garden to try to store some food in Mylar bags and it was a disaster. ( no green thumb here ) I spent enough Monet on fencing, soil, seeds, back pain ect. To buy the whole garden section at kroger and very little crop.

    The one good success I

  • Move taxes back to where they were under Clinton and cut spending. Both parties must take a hit to their constituents to make this fair and viable. This negotiation is a sacrifice by both classes and can't be seen as a win for either party or your going to start seeing some real civil unrest in the US. It's ironic that both parties need to dissatisfy their supporters in order to save the country from complete collapse.

  • Peter Peter Peter. When are you going to finally accept the fact that this country has been sold out to the very rich BANKSTER elites (Goldman. Rockefeller, Rothchilds, Schiffs...)

  • Geithner is a piece of shit. Talk about being irresponsible! the guy was there at the NYFed bailing out all of his Goldman & Bear Stearns buddies and we're supposed to believe the crap that comes out of him? he's a stooge, a puppet of Obama. a worthless human being.

  • @suitabledude "Puppet of Obama"? People like Geithner were there way before Obama, therefore, I do not believe that Obama is the cause of the problem, but that he has failed to remove personnel such as Geithner and failed to solve the economic crisis, further worsening the problem thanks to the people he has appointed. In short, Obama did not cause the problem, but that he did not do the right things to solve the problem

  • @DoraTheDino nice straw man. I never blamed Obama for Geithner's incompetence while he was at the NYFed. My "he's a puppet of Obama" remark refers only to those actions he's taken since appointed Sec of Treasury. Before that Geithner's been a puppet of the banks, but now the banks & Obama get to work together in pulling the strings.

  • @laptoprepairs sure I do, just not as often as we have other people posting good commentary as well.

  • Who put these morons in office? I'm speechless

  • This is all about transferring wealth and capital, in all forms.

The interest on the debt is a transfer, all the different entitlements, BarryCare, bail outs, tarp, QE2-3-4-5-6-7.....All designed to take the wealth away from the USA and give it to the elite in the guise of helping poor countries or to pay our bills.

It's just bullshit and people are waking up to this crap.

  • This is the corporate fascist new world order takeover the globe. They are rioting in Greece, Egypt, and Israel (this weekend 10s thousand in street protesting high prices). When a Jew, Muslim, and Greek orthodox all protest globally at the same time against the takeover of humanity's resources, you know its for real. Wake up it a CORPORATE FASCIST TAKEOVER OF THE GLOBE, WAKE UP, GROW UP. They will take everything and give you endless wars, tsa, police state, with corporations all powerful

  • what about cutting fucking DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!???????You can't default it is unconstitutional. 18th amendment article fucking 4. They are ganna be forced to cut either defense ,interest,s.s and medicare. Which will they cut? HAHAHAHA .

  • @sesshoumaru3st There is no article 4 in the 18th amendment... also, the 18th amendment was the prohibition of alcohol so what exactly are you talking about?

  • @happydunce sorry 14th

  • @sesshoumaru3st sorry 14th

  • Geithtner needs to be brought to treason court

  • @laptoprepairs it takes 10 days to pass a bill in the government, they have 8 days... good luck

  • The Fed, IRS & “Progressive” Fascist Statism gives corrupt crony corporatist politicians the power to redistribute, borrow, debase & regulate to centrally plan i.e. BUY “support” from Unions (UAW), “Too Big to Fail” Corporations (GM, banks), the Military-Industrial Complex (endless wars) & Wall Street cartel.

    STOP SPENDING!

  • @TheSpeckofdust You can't even employ the english langauge competently, much less speak of economic matters with any literacy.

You're opposed to business? You are opposed to mutually beneficiary exchange. How do you think that computer and the internet platform that you are using got produced without industry? You are an idiot. You need to be in cage.

  • ‎"The fact that we're here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. Leadership means 'The buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit." -Senator Barack Obama, 2006

  • Obama just wants this deal on the debt ceiling to keep it from being an issue during his re-election campaign -- he's not interested in anything to do with the economy. If Obama really, really wanted matters to work out, he would allow Congress to do its job and set the nation's house in order. This is really a fight over who has primacy, the White House or the Congress. The Constitution is clear: it's Congress.

  • lil' timmy

  • I am officially a schiff head!

  • @Cinemaguy2007 Gongrats! There are a lot of economic gurus out there, but few if any are as gifted as Schiff in that he is both a brilliant economic thinker and communicator. He's my favorite!

  • RON PAUL for President 2012 !!! The Only Choice.

  • Geithner is just a second-rate understudy of Bernanke.

  • Geitner is a liar and is using scare tactics.

  • Lindsey Williams says he knows the government WILL default. It will have to happen at some time but I doubt this time round it will. They are playing a fear game and manipulating the markets with "threat".

  • Geithner, bad lair......Especially about his own tax return.

We should stop blaming everyone else, and take responsibility for ourselves.

  • Umm when the Republicans propose to cut Social Security, Medicare, and other benefits while REFUSING TAX CUTS OF ANY KIND WHEN THE TOP ONE PERCENT HAS SEEN A HUGE ECONOMIC GROWTH IN THE LAST 30 YEARS, who now make an average of $27 MILLION per household. The average income for the bottom 90 percent of us? $31,244.

THE TOP 1% PAY 20% LESS IN TAXES THAN THE TOP 5 PEOPLE WAKE UP

  • @christmasdnc WHAT!? The top 2% pay an approx. 50% tax rate, while 50% of Americans pay zero taxes. How fair is that? So the answer to "pay their fair share" is to pay MORE taxes? This is nothing short of class warfare. YOU could be making millions, it's a free country to make as much as you can. Is it their fault that you make less? If we all paid a fair amount then we would be paying the same %, & even that is unfair to me. Why should someone pay millions in taxes while you a few hundred?

  • @mkmason2002

I hate this false dichotomy/scarecrow argument style everyone on this paged has used.

IF you actually looked up stats you find how off base you are. But before I give you my sources

Understand - IT HAS NEVER BEEN ABOUT "TAKING THOSE BASTARD RICH PEOPLES MONEY"

They FACTUALLY pay a SMALLER ROLE than theyre supposed to! WE'RE IN THREE WARS

when has America EVER - EVER - HAD A TAX SHARE RATE OF THE TOP 1% BEING LESS THAN 30% IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR?

    AND IT GOES TOP 1, 5. 20, 20

  • @mkmason2002

hopefully this wakes all of you tax drones up!

  • @drsugarcane This is exactly what happened YES

  • @drsugarcane What planet are you from the Gov. raped everyones ass. your Saying the young that came back from world war 2.Then Built this country back up Are selfish wow. They were and still remain a hard working Gen. you better look to your own Gen. And Gov. about Greed and being Selfish.Half of you don,t know what an honest days work looks, like your just there to collect a paycheck .I know hired many people and i hire a babyboomer before i,d hire anyone from your Gen.Get your facts right .

  • @ikesterman1 not accurate. The "babyboomers" were the ww2 generations kids.

  • @ikesterman1 This is true, my dad is a baby boomer and he worked in the same pharmacy for over 20 years and then the business went under and took his retirement with him, mixed with the stock market destroying his investments and inflation devaluing the money he does have saved, he is unable to retire and still works full time in his 50's to provide for his family!

  • @happydunce My dad worked full time 55 + hours a week until he was 64. He under consumed self-sacraficed, saved his money.

  • @ikesterman1 get your facts straight, baby boomers didn't serve in world war 2. They should have saved money for their retirement, now they are refusing to take cuts in entitlements milking the country dry.

  • @drsugarcane PREACH ON!!!!

  • @drsugarcane

Those baby boomers payed into Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid their entire lives. YOU ARE ENTITLED TO SOMETHING YOU PAYED FOR.

  • @drsugarcane "I don't give a rats ass if you went to (INVADED) Vietnam" -to FORCE DEMOCRACY (irony much) onto people in their own country by butchering them and their wives and their children (many of whom were unarmed), only to then, after being driven from the country with your tails between your legs while achieving none of your goals and having your enemy achieve ALL of theirs, CLAIM A DRAW!!!!

I can't believe your stance on this issue drsugarcane! *sarcasm*

  • @drsugarcane Cut the programs. We want you to cut all of the programs. Eliminate them. LOL But when the bullets and shells start hitting your fortress don't say shit. You point out these programs but you don't point out you military budget! Or your 1% that don't even pay taxes or get tax cuts!

  • @drsugarcane Or your oversees companies that exploit workers for cheap labor so that you average CEO can triple his money can keep his funds stashed in Sweden or some other country. Your quick to point the finger at these programs but for the rest of the shit

  • @drsugarcane You don't say shit. Its not these people fault that your banksters,CEO, etc are all corrupt. Now you want these people to pay for the gamble these people took with other people's lives. lol you funny. I rebuke you.

  • @drsugarcane You don't care that these people went to vietnam. Thousands of American soldiers died on that soil and You DON'T CARE? You should go put a chair in a room. Tie a rope to a fan and kick the shit from right under you! Our American soldiers who put their lives down for America will always be cared for. Now go fuck yourself.

  • Lets get the pitch forks brothers and hold Timmy accountable for still writing bad checks!............. HELLO!!!! WE DONT HAVE MONEY TIMMY. The sun is hot......right? OMG

  • @MrRhinosilver Even if the Govnment magically recieved $trillion, they still wouldn't pay off any debt, although I suspect some how every congressman, senator, and supreme court justice would get new office furniture plus a gas and food stipend... The problem is not revenue it is spending... the money is always soaked up through bereaucracy. We don't need more revenue, we need less government, less borrowing, less printing, less debt, less welfare, less warfare, and less corporatism....

  • @jdonald05 LOL you're right ahahah omg laughing so hard

  • Peter they do want a default. We need more revenue and spending cuts. Spending cuts alone wont fix the debt problem u know this im not sure why you're saying Geitner is lying. Hes saying the truth its simple we need to pay what we owe raise revenue and cut our bills its that's simple.

  • "How can a country taking in 2 trillion cannot pay 300 billion in interest?"

.umm... perhaps everything is already budgeted? or perhaps the tax cuts for the rich costs 700 billion. I don't know Schiff, I think you need more time off mic to finish your thoughts before going on air.

If raising taxes for the rich are off the table on the republican side, the only thing to do is cut services, which will harm the poor.

  • Peter-I disagree. He is talking about defaulting on the 80 million+ checks the gov't is obligated to pay every month. If the debt ceiling is not raised, the country will not be able to honor its legal financial obligations authorized by Congress.

  • Geithner is a boldfaced liar

  • it will take riots in the streets. nothing less. oh, and have a nice day :))

  • Guess What??

I got a fever and the ONLY prescription is MORE SCHIFF!!!!!!!

I gotta have MORE PETER SCHIFF baby!!!!!!!!

  • What is the penalty for treason?

  • @ronpaul2008rocks Impeachment...i'm assuming you are talking about the POTUS

  • @QuoEstVeritasEh I was specifically talking about Geithner. But it could be almost any of these bozos in Washington who have sworn to uphold and protect the Constitution.

  • Peter, We own the vast majority of our debt.(68%). So I do not understand why everyone is so whelmed up in this issue. It's like the Kardashians meets the NFL Lockout. China only owns 8% of our debt, which is fine with them b/c it pays to hold dollars. How is this not just one big publicity stunt filled with political theater? %numbers from the article: "A Debt To Ourselves" -Kyle Leighton

  • The real rich are not even being taxed, in fact the real rich, the ones that hold the majority of America's wealth, are simply untaxable... They make the laws!!! increasing taxes on the people who make $250k is not going to solve any problems. We need to cut spending... BIG TIME... No more taxes on any social class. It is a mathmatical impossibility to raise taxes enough to cover the Goverments deficit SPENDING... I emphasize SPENDING because that is the real problem.

  • @jdonald05 I agree, but since when do "mathematical impossibilities" ever stop the so-called elitists in government from doing bad things?!!

  • @cresidue Of course the government won't stop on their own. I read a lot of comments saying we need more taxes on this group or that group less on this group. My point, was that the tax issue is just a ploy to distract people from what the real problem is, and a lot of people are eating it up - like tax reform is actually going to solve our problems. This is all the more reason for every American to actively engage their representitives and demand the budget get cut. Millions of angry Americans

  • @cresidue are much more powerful than the elites. If we do nothing to stand up for ourselves, than we do not deserve the right to complain about what happens to our country, our kids, or our grandkids let alone ourselves.

  • Peter is a Republican, he is rich, he doesnt want his taxes raised. He and the rest of his co herts, hedge funders, gold sellers, will do anything to protect thier wealth, They will propagand anything so they can continue selling you this BS, Have you noticed all of the hyperinflation, dollar collapse, ect all all trying to sell you either gold or silver??????

  • @cbradsvideos Schiff has proven himself to be reliable, and his father went to jail for fighting the IRS. Has Geithner paid his back taxes yet? Only dupes pay taxes, and the nouveau riche along with the middle class will bear the burden of tax increases. The monied oligarchy and corporations will not be bothered with a tax increase, what you are prescribing is akin to cannibalizing your neighbor. All of the corporations all calling for tax increases so they can rip us off again with bailouts

  • @cbradsvideos are u saying you are bullish or bearish on Gold?

  • @cbradsvideos the dollar is collapsing, gold price is the number one evidence of that. food and energy prices in dollars are rising because the dollar is collapsing. yes, Peter is benefiting from this by having his investors buy gold and silver. are you jealous of him, is that it? you want hyperinflation? just wait until the Chinese let their currency float, you'll see hyperinflation reach American shores faster than you can say "where's my money?". that's the hidden tax few truly understand.

  • For all of you that think that you should protect the rich and continue giving them more tax cuts? I hope you got an air bag.

  • The Bush tax cuts have been in place now for what? Eight years? So where are the so called jobs that they are creating because of the tax cuts? Duhhhhhhhhhh What part of this isnt working dont you understand folks?

  • Liars in Washington D.C.? I am shocked!!

    "Hasten the Collapse, OBAMA 2012"

  • Ask lil Tim if he "defaulted" on his taxes.

  • Comment removed

  • just default already...

  • @sirshaneyboy-You have it correct 100%. Great comment.

  • I would drop kick Timothy Geithner if I ever met him in person.

  • @SolarAlchemy would you have pitty on him if he happens to just be stupid instead of corrupt? :P

  • @ToxicDreamer I sure as hell wouldn't. No pity for stupid people put in high office by people even more stupid.

  • @pfizzbones "please don't hurt me i'm just a silly old man... i thought bankrupting the country was a good thing but of course i'm just a silly old man what do i know? i put chocolate syrup on top on spaghetti and sing tweetle deedle doodle la day, i don't have any friends all i have to talk to is my cat mittens because i'm just a Silly old man, nobody wants to talk to a silly old man like me, oh bankrupting the country? yea i'm just a silly old man i don't know what i'm doing"

  • @ToxicDreamer Wow. You OK? You sound like John Stewart. I'm worried.

  • @pfizzbones uh... i was using John Stewart style comedy to make fun of Tim Geithner.... maybe thats why :P

  • @ToxicDreamer Well that explains it.

  • @ToxicDreamer lol I refuse to believe the former head of the NY Fed is that stupid. Men this evil know exactly what they're doing.

  • Kick his ass, Schiffbass!

  • The only thing that needs to collapse are the big banks.... it's time they lost trillions of dollars....

  • nice work Peter. geithner always struck me as a bureaucratic butt smoocher. sucking up to his boss obama and passing the buck like hes doing now is what this type does

  • i think that little timmy is a traitor

  • peter im a big fan. i just listened to hopi prophecy and i would like know your thoughts on it. I believe their way is the right way. we need to live on earth spiritually and in peace with each other. our country, the usa, will fail, because bad choices were made in the past. the only way for use to survive is to slow down everything. we need to change and go back to living off the land or find a way to share everything with everyone. imho

  • Once again when I click on his looped radio show, I get "playing 'noxsol' _ Schiffloop." Half the time I don't get that and I can hear the show but when I get the schiffloop reading...forget about it. I have no idea why this happens or if it only happens to me but it sure is frustrating when you are counting on hearing a little sanity at the end of the day.

  • Soak the rich!

  • @blythebaby777 Soak the zombies!

  • I think that the USA should cut its expenses dramaticly. I would start with the following three areas;

1: STOP all of these wars. wars cost money and cost lives not to mention after war damage.

    2. STOP passing more and more laws each year. Every year there are more criminal laws on the books. Our prisons are overflowing. Get rid of the three strikes law. it is part of the sys. that is bankrupting us.

    3. STOP caring for terminal patients. cost too much. way too much.

  • I feel to see how stealing less money from those who earned it qualified as "generosity" (i.e. "generous tax breaks"). Also the irony of someone in the federal gov't calling others "irresponsible" is thick enough to cut with a knife.

  • What noone trusts Geithner?

  • I can't find a job help mEEEEEEEE

  • Geithner's battling one of the greatest strawmen I've ever seen. It's a perfect straw man in every way. It's subtle, it's filled with lies that appear to the unskilled listener as truth. When the Straw Man Fallacy is discussed in a high school critical thinking class, Geithner's audio should be played. It's perfect. The sad thing is, Geithner probably doesn't even realize he's guilty of battling a straw man.

  • does anyone know how many times bush raised the debt celing?

  • @qwezzie - To the best of my knowledge 2 or 3. But, I'm pretty sure that you know this isn't even close to showing the full picture. As you may know, Obama has blown the same hole in the debt in 3 years as Bush did in 8.

  • @qwezzie Does that matter as to whether it's the right thing to do or not?

  • Peter your podcast is one of my favs that i listen to everyday, keep up the good work my friend

  • There are multiple methods of painlessly extracting the US from this problem of too much debt.

    But what do they do?

"I'm gonna call Visa and extend our limit."

  • These officials are so brazen in their outright lies. The sad part is that there are apparently a huge number of people that can listen to statements like that and believe them. It requires only the most basic level of critical thinking to recognize Geitners doublespeak. Really, one need just be awake which is saying a lot I guess.

  • Why can't the spending cuts come from something other than social security?Think about all the seniors who;sonly income is SS and the disabled people who's only income is SS. The seniors paid into the system all of their lives and should be the LAST thing cut and the republicans want it to be the first thing. How about we cut pay for gov bureaucrats, end the wars and downsize the military and stop using private corporations for things soldiers could do for 1/10 of the price?

  • @christo930 I agree w/ your statement but I would only beg you to remove the reference to "republican". I think we are better served by grouping politicians into status quo or non-status quo. Truth is, even w/ increased debt limit there will need to be cuts made. We can default on loans, or cut spending. Why not vote for a real non-statist like Ron Paul who would cut the military industrial complex drastically by closing all foreign bases and ending all illegal wars. He happens to be republican

  • @tonyfarese I would vote for Paul and will if he is on my ballot. But even Paul acknowledges we can't just cut out social security. Think about it this way. Say we cut out social security, because it's the biggest and easiest, it just leaves all the corruption, regulations, military etc. Where will the incentive be to cut those things?

  • @christo930 No doubt. I totally advocate making a deal w/ real liberals. I think Ron Paul should introduce a plan that is like a new new deal that guarantees the social Security and gets their total support in dismantling the Military Industrial Complex and IRS and Dept of Education, etc. I have heard him ask gatherings of young people that if the govt agreed never to tax them more than 10% total would they agree not to ask the govt for any services and many like that idea.

  • @tonyfarese I personally think that's a bad idea and young people have no idea what that would entail. I used to be totally against social safety nets until I, through no fault of my own, was a position to need them. When things are going great it's easy to think you will never need a social safety net, but even with prudent savings, I still needed the help to get me back on my feet. I am very glad it was there for me. I certainly would rather help people than fund the military.

  • @christo930 But where is the justification of force? This "social safety net" is kept in place through extortion and is a complete violation of individual rights. If there is some social idea that one thinks is truly beneficial, his means of getting cooperation should be persuasion - not a gun, i.e., the government.

  • @db11289 But that same argument could be made for every gov program, from courts, bridges and roads, to firemen and police. All taxation, regardless of the use of the money, ultimately rests on the power of coercion.

  • @christo930 And it is ultimately a violation of individual rights. But there are degrees - forcing a person to pay for another's wishes is much worse then forcing them to pay for the police that keep them and their property safe. However, the later is something that could ultimately be voluntarily funded.

  • @db11289 What you are ultimately saying is "Fund the things I like".
