I love this so much. It reminds me of when my grandfather, who was in the navy, would sing songs to me as a kid.

The lyrics accurately follow the geography of the English south coast.
For 'dead man' read 'Dodman', then Ram Head and proceed eastwards!
The 'downs' does not refer to the mainland hills. It's an area of shallow sea off the coast of Kent. (I think!)
