thats funny, because I have that textures every time I play Portal or Team Fortress 2. But in my case it is not missing texture, it's unknown graphic card. I'm calling it 'hipercolorism'

the purple and black checker pattern is Valve's "missing texture" texture, it usually means your vid card can't generate the textures for one reason or anorher.

Haha, I thought I was the only one who got the funky color thing! I usually see it at the end of chamber 19, just after the escape from the fire. Only mine has all the colors of the rainbow! :-) Really psychadelic. I thought I was tripping the first time I saw it.

Of course, my PC is really old. I'm lucky to get 20 FPS and if I play Portal too long I get a message saying my free memory pool is too small...

Dude.... The metal being pink is because it's a glitch from Commentary Mode. Turn off the bubbles and you should be fine.

that texture is was hdr(high dynamic range)

and this means it was just a texture not the reflection of the map and you have feleted the texture or you have changed the file names.

it's not as hard to get 10 portals as you think. portal bump under the first clear wall, shoot the camera, pick it up, bounce the ball into the recever, place 2 portals in the next room so you can ABH down the hallway OR angle jump. that's 5 portals to get to the acid hallway. then just finish the level like in this video. that's 10 portals... and it can be done in less.

Type buildcubemaps in the console when you are on that map, wait, and then restart Portal. Problem solved.

it's normally an ATI card Issue, when minimizing and it deosnt load the texture correctly. Hoever i havent recently had this problem, i used to suffer from it loads in Half Life 2

that means that the cubemap used for the specular effects of those walls is unable to be found- the file itself can be removed to intentionally create this effect, though glitches can also occur where it doesnt load.
