Its kind of sad that people are writing how much they love lalit and its there favorite rag, and its Multani... if you know anything about the Thaats and thier ragas and the times of day they are played you will know that.

Thanks for posting this. Bismillah Khan's rendition of the morning raga Lalit is always (there are many other recordings of B.K.'s Lalit too) beautiful & inspirational. The video recording of the serene Banaras ghats was beautiful also.

Actaully i was with Ustad saheb for 8 years. I had to go to bombay for job since i was not making money playing tabla. God bless ustad sahib and he may get heaven.

How was Ustadji in person? Did you get to meet his daughters? Are they nice and welcoming? Or they are very traditional

Family of ustab sahib is traditional banarasi muslim family and they are warm and big hearted people. They dont have too much money since they all are into classical music. I worked with Ustab sahib till 1995 and then left for bombay.

Well, even Ustsad saheb was not making very good money. He did not want to work in movies and there is not much money in Classical music. He had some cassttes and so he was getting some money out of that. Ustab sahib had 5 sons. I dont think he has got any daughter.

It does not matter if it's rag lalit or Multani. what we listen is blessed "Ustad". Ustad was blessed by god of Kashi Vishveshwar saying " maze karo, mazahi hogi" ( let's enjoy, and u will get only enjoyment). So we just enjoy. Details doesn't matter! :)

Me too. I love Rashid Khan, Kumar Gandharva, Jithendra Abhishieki, Malini Rajukar, Bhimsen Joshi, Vasantrao Deshpande, and many ohters like Nazakat and Salamat Ali Khan and Roshan Ara Begum. Kishori Amonkar is very talented and has an excellent voice for classicla and bhajan. I have one bhajan cd of hers and a two cd set of her concert.
