very boring and whiney song... fades right into the rest of the crap that people like you demand and listen to. with the bad taste you make good music look better. but seriously..... why do people like this crap? i love a lot of music and this shit is just miserable. rock is dying, courtney love said it right. rock is dead. this band proves that
there has always been something about the rock greats that has..even though completly depressed me, made me stay true with music. when these guys came out i was in a bad state with rock due to the canadian "cry for your girlfriend" gig
that swept michigan. besides clasic rock i lost hope. these guys revived my depression and let me know its still alive. its better to fell anything than nothing so thanks to maynard and his insperations. as for the drum bass and guitar.. thanks for my life. peace.
i remember one of the interviews maynard had regarding what this song about. he said it was about people who came back from war, e.g. the korean war very proud. they glorified themselves in such a way that they thought they were better than everyone else and the song is about how they shouldn't put such a halo above their heads because it's going to turn into a noose.
Someone explain how this song couldn't possibly have anything to do with both topics; surely a human being can find themselves addicted to more than just a substance. Granted, too much of an investment of one's self into a certain belief could be just like a drug... altering, euphoric at some moments, and ultimately detrimental to your well-being, whatever. I'm talking out of my dick.
I agree that it is somewhere in between. The whole album is based on the 12 step recovery program for alcoholics, which is dependent on faith to get you through.
I personally think he's describing a person that has caused deaths through out their lifes and suddenly thinks their "New view" makes up for it (IE a king, government, killer, etc.). It also makes me think of Al Sharpton, that guy needs to be choked by somthing.
Billy reminds me of an offensive line in football.....gets absolutely no credit but is really the one holding everything together. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Maynard, but who do u think is putting in the leg work while MJK is off doing Tool, Puscifer and his wine vinyard stuff??
My favorite thirteenth step song. This song means anything from the Christian crusades to Duane Chapman. This is about high and mighty "born again" hypocrites that preach, yet they have a nasty past they haven't owned up to yet. Their halo slips down when nobody's looking.
has anyone thought for themselves? perhaps the song is about ANYONE who has changed their life & now judges ALL others! I hope the Halo chokes Those people untill they realize we are all the same!
Mayndard in this video is more like "an outspoken anti-theistic singer" who sounds like heaven...without going into theological stuff~ watch out for your halo~ this is the best live performance I've watched for this particular track....oh and yeah, fuck you god!
I dedicate this to all the troops who have lost their lives fighting a war that only the politicians can cause. They have no f..... Idea what its like for us to do their bidding.
@lazorman8 my understanding is that there was a lot of conflict within the group regarding the direction of the song... like a whole heap. whereas someone (can't remember who) wanted it to be about addiction, maynard wanted the song to be an ode to his late mother, who was a strict baptist ("making your amends to the dead"). the final product is essentially a marriage of both themes. and brilliantly done, methinks.
I saw APC in 2002 or so in Cologne, Germany. The Club was pretty small, around 200 people there. Including festivals I've heared around 200 Bands playing live and none of them came even close to that experience. Not even Tool themselves a couple years later. I remember this concert to this day every now and then and I'm glad I've been there.
every time i go to sleep (well.. at least very often) i listen to this exact live version of the song. i would spend millions just so i could have been there in the moment this perfect piece of music was played.
it's about the song and not the guy singing it, so as long as he keep bringing it...damn i just thought of Lady Gaga now...anyway, Maynard Rules and i miss him.
idk if it's a good thing or a bad thing that u dont c Maynard in this video. i kinda like it tho. it gives the video more of a mysterious & artsy feeling. it's pretty fuckin cool. \m/
you never see maynard anymore, every damn concert hes always behind the stage. Don't know why, its kind of like he doesn't give a fuck anymore. The last show i went to he just left and nobody knew it was over.
This song is the most amazing song I've ever listended to though, and the best live performance ever. Lyrically its so beautiful
@300sooks this is one opinion. Maynard is an artist. What he creates is art. The music, the voice, the lyrics. It's not about him. It's about the beauty of the music and the art that he wants to take center stage. Not himself. Then again that's just me and I could be wrong. But I do doubt it isn't because he doesn't give a fuck.
@mlowery4602 No you are absolutely right. That is what Maynard has said for years. It's not about him, the music is his expression. Just listen to lateralus it's a musical masterpiece.
@Tearion That is without a doubt one of the best albums that has ever been released. Tool seemed like they tapped into a certain kind of spirituality with that album. It's very powerful.
@300sooks its because maynard is not a glory hog, Without his friends there would not be such a unique sound. I can honestly say i have not heard any of thier songs that i didnt like.
@VerveVixen This is on the Amotion DVD...it's the only one of it's kind. Supposedly there is more professionally recorded stuff...but it's up to them to release it.
