Stop the Seger/Eno argument. Eno wrote this song before 1974, and Seger wrote this song before 1978. I know that I'd rather be hearing this majestic God-piece than some scummy piece of shiat by that other guy. Thank you Eno! Let's end the argument now!
@paradoxcalledlife Yes it uses two of the same notes as that dirge by Seger. What of it? The other 3 of the 4 bars of the progression are absolutely and entirely different. I fail to see the point you are making.
The escalation in this song is awesome. It has this buildup that's like climbing up to heaven. Basically, it's a badass song! This will be my funeral song for sure.
THE WHOLE ALBUM IS PIECE OF INNOVATIVE SOUNDS, AND OWN STYLE IS UNIQUE ALBUM.Man thanks for POSTING THIS, AS IT IS, YOU AIMED AT MEMORIES OF MINE. IN WHICH IS ANEW FOREVER. ON MY WALL I AM WATCHING NOW THE COVER OF MY VINYL "MORE BLANK THAN FRANK" ALL THE PEOPLE THAT PLAYS IN THAT ALBUM ARE GREAT MUSICIANS, EACH SONG IS BIG. I NEVER GET TIRED OF THIS ALBUM IS A PIECE OF ART.
@TheGEEman60 Well, the one I remember best was at a small exhibition of work by Hans Jorg, Peter, Charles Harrison the art historian. Charles was trying to explain about his 'pet' art movement called Art Language. None of us could understand it at all. But Charles had produced a large piece of white board with the dictionary definition of art printed in black right in the middle of it. Commmonplace idea now, but striking back then.
i hear echos of the same melody from bob siegar's song, "still the same."
"you always won every time you placed a bet." don't you hear bars here that are so similar they it's as if you could a track of some bars from one song, and lay it over a track with similar bars from the other song and get something pretty close to identical.
I was made to listen to this track by my mate phil, who was at uni in b/ham 70s. I have never looked back, Brian Eno a great talent in his day a kind of music scientist.
this gives me chills

consider if eno never left roxy music...would there even been an avalon ...i think not
TheGEEman60 10 months ago
@TheGEEman60 Eno himself has said if he had never left there wouldn't have been a Stranded, which he claims to be his favourite Roxy album.

Eno has the ability to encapsulate every emotion with just one note, what a ride. Breath taking!

in the 70s I reviewed albums for Reading University's Shell magazine and this one had me 'on some faraway beach' extremely evocative

Gosh. Haven't heard this in years.
I met Brian in the mid 70's, just after Tiger Mountain. He was working with Peter Schmidt anf Hans Jorg Meyer.
Interesting conversations.

@JuneJune1950 Would love to have transcripts of that chatfest -- I'm glad he rescued Bowie from
self-destruction in the post-Ziggy soul/plastic

Schmidt and Eno looked at it long and hard.
End of part 1.

@TheGEEman60
Part 2. Suddenly Peter slapped his thigh. "I understand!" shouted Schmidt.
"Art language is the aesthetic of determinism!"
"Oh yes" replied Brian quietly. "Let's pretend we all understood that anyway."

This is possibly the most hypnotic, breathtaking, fascinating, aesthetic, simplistic and moving piece of music Brian Eno has ever written.
