What a beautiful moment to share vicariously through Youtube. Thanks for sharing it!
I've never understood the argument that women can't share the Gospel via open air. She's reading word by word the Holy Word of God. Is it going to some how be corrupted as it passes from the lips of a woman? If no one tells them, how else will the hear?
In 1 Tim 4:13, Paul says to Timothy "...give attention to the public reading of scripture, to exhortation and teaching..."
This was the duty of a leader in the Church and leadership in the Church was strictly confined to men. I know this is not a Church setting, but I am still cautious as to whether or not this is biblically condoned. Just because there is not a single verse that condemns this practice doesnt warrant that it is okay.
Conext. You answered your own objection. She's standing on a public street, not in the pulpit of a church.
And with your last sentence in mind, if the Scriptures do not expressly forbid it, then who has the authority to forbid it? Where's the authority for your position against what she is doing?
Without a Scriptural mandate or prohibition it becomes a matter of conscience. And my conscience is clear. I will continue to encourage my daughters to proclaim the gospel in the open-air.
Hey Tony! I hope you're doing well. As you know, I am not for women in the open air. The possibility lends itself to teaching, which women are forbidden to do "over" men. Now, while I know you may say that the context was strictly a "church" setting, church is not limited to the 4 walls of a building. Additionally, the pastoral epistles are just that...for pastors. Therefore, to "give attention to the public reading...", I believe should not be used in this context to encourage women to preach.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Leon. Like you, I've studied the issue. I agree that the "church" is not limited to the four walls of a building. In fact, much of what goes on these days inside the four walls of what are called "churches" is anything but "church."
There a godly teachers on both sides of the issue.
I will continue to encourage women (including my daughters) to read the Word and proclaim the gospel in the open-air.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a lady sharing their faith in the open air. I think the importance is that the law and the gospel is shared to a lost and dying world whether it is from the mouth of ladies or guys. The important thing is that through the gospel being preached that it will convict the hearts of those who hear and that they might come to repentance and faith in Christ.
Also, I must add that there are portions in the pastoral epistles that do have a wider meaning and application than to just pastors. For instance, the command to pray for all people. I'm sure or "think" you would agree. But I must say, being in seminary, you hear a lot of different forms of argumentation. And one argument that I hear for paedo-baptism, you used. You said that women in the open air is not commanded nor forbidden. I hear that argument for infant baptism.
Are you willing to look into some articles and resources by reformers, o should I say godly men, who believe otherwise? I have looked into this for some time and I have now been brought to this conclusion. What I am NOT saying is that women should not share the gospel. If a women gets on the box and simply shares the gospel, I am not comfortable with that, but I agree that it is not forbidden. But when the reading of Scripture is brought into account, that can lead itself to teaching.

should women be doing this.....????

Why not? There is not a single verse in Scripture that either commands or condemns the practice of women reading the Bible in public.
