  • I LOVE ET AND THOUGH A YEAR HAS ALMOST PASSED IT STILL SADDENS ME SO

  • I love Elizabeth Taylor

  • @Believe777Child i know you did i loved her too her fans loved her hun we all miss her aswell don't give up be brave you have true fans thats out there too dear. :) stay strong and stay safe dear. :)

  • Enjoy it, because history is fast claiming this depiction to be a racist mistake. Cleopatra was mixed race with brown eyes. It was an insult to Africa that they portrayed my history with a white woman with no black features. Imagine, Halle berry playing the Queen of England. lol Lizzy was great and beautiful, but the casting was a terrible mistake and history is catching up with it.

  • @Raybanmonster Cleopatra was actually Greek.

  • @relish5k Cleopatra was a decendant of a greek, AND she was MIXED RACE. Get you facts straight.

  • @Raybanmonster I am aware of that, but considering the inbreeding of the Ptolemy family and the fact that Cleopatra was the first regent who bothered to learn Egyptian, I don't know if it was all that mixed. So while I don't think the actual Cleopatra had what some may consider typical African features, Elizabeth Taylor was not at all an accurate casting choice! I think the Cleopatra they pick in 'Rome' was more accurate, if not quite so appealing. However I appreciate your input! :)

  • @relish5k

OK thats faily interesting view and on the whole acceptable, I guess we may never know in the end because afterall race isnt a scientific taxonomic subclass, so it doesnt actually in the end mean very much so I feel we may never know, but she did exist and only for a veruy short time considering the whole thousands of years Egypt was around. I just think it outlandish that so many because of Liz Taylor think it was a Europeanised place, thats my point, it so wasnt, it was BLACK

  • elizabeth taylor-cleopatra-by richard bassett, is one my favorite movies gijoe989.

  • für mich ist die Monroe die aller grösste gewesen....

  • damn she was fucking hot

  • i love that character that s been emboded by elizabeth taylor only

  • @hypocriticallysaying Well put! Regardless of her beauty, I agree with you that she was a remarkable woman!

  • @hypocriticallysaying I disagree with that claim, ofcourse 'researchers' are going to compliment such a historic figure, they're hardly going to say she was a '4ft woman who had bad features'. I've seen coins and ornaments of her and the features are hideous and I don't think that being sophisticated necessarily = beautiful, maybe she was beautiful for that era - I suppose it depends on what you class as beautiful.

  • @pathetic321 If she had bad features, why did Caesar have a kid with her? The man could have any woman he wanted. and what do you mean "beautiful for that era"? Do you think humans have mutated in the last century? We have looked the same for thousands of years.

  • @JBnotthescotch

what "beauty" is changes over cultures. like how ours likes skinny figures and others find being chubby attractive. Also how most older cultures find being pale or "fair" skinned more attractive (Snow White anyone). Western culture has only been liking tanned chicks for less than a century.

  • @bozomatt King Salomon dated Queen Sheba in 10th century BC. Roxana married Alexander in 3rd century BC. Salome was of legendary beauty (more or less 1BC). The women of Al-Andaluz were famously hot in 10th century AC. The crusaders were crazy for muslim women during the 13th century. Marco Polo, in the 14th century, said that the women in the north of Persia were the most beautiful in the world and he liked the Chinese women a lot. Other famous tanned hotties: Nefertiti, Semiramis, Scherezade...

  • I yearned for Cleopatra has a young boy. Such a sexy look. At the time, though, I had no idea who Elizabeth Taylor was.

  • Thank you for the tribute. My parents was in movie theater when I presume a man stated "what a way to go." after a scence in the film of Cleopatra. The real one started her "role" when she was 12 years old.

  • My mother was always told that she resembled Liz. She always found that to be the best compliments that she ever received.

  • Yes I get told I look Like her too all my life, what a honor but I was told by my mother that we had a Aunt named Taylor I wonder if She has the same blood line??I'm 60 as of December2011, I should check, but what a TRUE Lady in every since of the word was Elizabeth!! Elizabeth Taylor's beauty I suppose captured the beauty of a strong intelligent woman with the world at her feet. She was perfect for the role : )

  • Cleopatra was done brilliantly by Elizabeth Taylor . Hey Tyler Perry now make Queen Of Sheba . Just like this movie that will be something to see !

  • Cleopatra was African / what eva damn . Historians need to stop covering ish up . First its we found her sister she looks to be African then its nope its not her . Some people really think everybody is stuck on stupid . Hey keep her . The Queen of Sheba is more to my liking , we claim her lol .. Tyler Perry are you listening? And no Halle Berry we demand a fresh faced unknown! Go for it!

  • @sicemtoto Cleopatra was Macedonian, not African. The Ptolemies ruled Egypt from Alexandria after Alexander The Great's death, and Cleopatra was general Ptolemy's decendant. That's how she was able to maintian power in Egypt, by claiming a lineage to Alexander the Great. The Ptolomies also copied Egyptian customs such as icestuous marriage, as Cleopatra's first husband was her own brother. The blue bloods didn't mix with the commoners, so the ruling class of Alexandria were all Macedonian.

  • @44excalibur - actually they were all GREEKS from the Macedonia kingdom of Greece. Just to keep it completely correct : )

    Take care

  • @rempetisa Well, I said "Macedonian" to avoid offending any Macedonians by calling Cleopatra "Greek," since some Macedonians don't really like that ever since they became a seperate country. :)

  • @44excalibur - well actually u are once again incorrect. The Macedonians are still Greek & still live in Greece. The country u r referring to r former yugoslavs who falsely renamed their country Macedonia because of a communist agendas. The international community is waiting for them to change their name to one that better fits their slavic identity & paeonian geography that doesnt make irredentist claims on the real Macedonia of Northern Greece.

No need to thank. I am happy to clarify

  • @rempetisa Well, the Macedonians would claim that they are the of Thracian descent, not Slavic, and they were under the rule of Philip of Macedon, but I get your point.

  • @44excalibur - The Macedonians dont claim anything of the sort. They have always stated that they are GREEKS since time immemorial.

In regards to the Former Yugoslav Republic, a poodle can claim it is a lion. Doesn't make it one. The difference is a validated primary source link of which they have none. They neither speak the GREEK language of the Macedonians or have the GREEK etymologies or names. Their land is ancient Paeonia & their history in the Balkans begins in the 7th C BC. Cheers

  • @rempetisa I think you misunderstood me. I meant the Macedonians of modern Macedonia, not the Greek Macedonians. The people of Paeonia which you refer to are the ones who consider themselves "Thracians," and not slavs. No need to be condescending and say I'm "again incorrect." I correctly stated that Cleopatra was not black or Egyptian, that she was Ptolemy's descendant, and was Macedonian. Sorry for my one error. People have confused African and Phoenician Aethiopia was well, you know.

  • "Cleopatra was as African as the People of English and Dutch origin who were born in South Africa the last couple of hundred years"

And as the Blacks (So-called Negroids) for thousands years(more in South Sahara than in North) and as the Mediterranean Caucasoids in North Africa: Berbers-Amazighs; Lybians, Egyptians and other Near Easterns, North Africans and South Europeans-iberians etc. for thousands of years.

Great History, Movie and video to see again.

  • I since when "African" or "Eurasian" as exemple are races? LOL Are Geography, fellows, geography (many geographies inside them in the case).

Cleopatra have strong Macedonian-Greek origins, any way, the Lybians, Berbers-Amazighs as other Mediterraneans are in Africa since many thousands of years. As other Africans from South of Shara, Phoenitians and South Europeans, Mediterraneans and Westerners.

  • Liz is more stunning than the real Cleopatra!!! :D

  • @chixie91 0 agree. If you look at the portraits of the real Cleopatra she was not becoming at all and had quite a large nose. Her power came from her intelligence and her confidence as Queen of Egypt from her Ptolemaic lineage.

  • Classic movie, but one must remember that it bears about as much resemblance to the real characters and to ancient Egypt as the inside of a potato chip bag.

  • Really IDK why people r still fighting about it people should just keep it to there selfs what you think is what you think and no one can change it except for u

  • It doesn't really matter guys. Seriously.

  • i am really sick of people asserting that Cleopatra VII was black when they've obviously never read her history. Equally I'm sick of people equating her with a mindless whore she was an incredibly intelligent and phenomenal woman and ruler.

  • @vspink714 THANK YOU

  • i luv the music you have withe clips richard lol

  • a white Cleopatra???? uummmmmm... ooooo kay. I guuuu - ees.

  • @FATIGUEDOUT - Greeks? They were white.

  • @Stratsound true. But cleopatra was African.

  • @FATIGUEDOUT -Cleopatra was full-blooded Greek, hence she was white.

  • @FATIGUEDOUT ... are you retarted? She most certainy was not.

  • @FATIGUEDOUT Cleopatra was as African as the people of English and Dutch origin who were born in South Africa the last couple of hundred years.

  • Its a GREAT movie! Even if everyone is too white. Taylor deserved and Oscar - she was AMAZING.

  • CLEOPATRA WAS BLACK.

  • No, she was Greek, not even Egyptian. Whether Egyptians were black is a whole other debate.

  • @bbgurl22ful Ummm .... she was a Macedonian Greek. Spoke Greek. Lived in a Hellenistic Greek colony on the Mediterranean. Worshiped Greek gods. Her name is a Greek word. We have a few surviving portrait busts of her, many contemporary descriptions of her, and many coin portraits of her (with or without Antony).

  • after alexander's (the great i mean ) death his kindom was seperated!!!the part that agypt is was taken by a general whose name was ptolemy!!cleopatra was descendant of him!!so cleopatra was greek!!!

    :))

  • agypt???? Really...my head hurts

  • is cleopatra's shoe yellow???

  • Excellent video. Great choice of clips. Elizabeth Taylor's presence commands attention without her even saying a word. The only logical choice for a queen is Elizabeth!

  • 1:50 Now THAT'S what I call an entrance

  • 0:11...she looks super sexy.

Liz Taylor was beautiful as Cleopatra. Loved the red gown on her. One of my favorite outfits that she wore. She also looked amazing in her gold dress during her entry into Rome and with her hair really long near the end of the movie.

  • What a Joke, Beautiful Woman, but this role should have been played by an African-American.

  • Why? Cleopatra was Greek not Eqyptian

  • Yes her father was Greek and her mother of African Ancestory. Again, Egypt is a country in Africa. All Greeks were not Europeon. Liz Taylor is Europeon. I guess back in the late 50's they didn't know any better or didn't care to know. Anyway, thats why.

  • I know Egypt is in Africa.. Anways I'm not trying to argue with you or anything but its only sckepticized that Cleopatra was possibly of mixed heritage and being of partial african decent and that's cool and all but since her decent would've been predominatey mediteranian, not african it's only more natural that they not use an african actress.

  • They believe that her sister Arsinoe possibly had an african mother due to finds during skeletal reconstruction but with all the mistresses and multiple marriages that took place within royalty during that period of time, Cleopatra and Arisnoe didn't even nessecarily have the same mother. Besides all that stuff in the period of time this movie was made, they rarely used any actors or actresses or color to begin with.

  • In any case Cleopatra VII was blonde, so no point in discussing origins I guess.

  • If you say so...LOL

  • Rich, I love all of your videos. I especially love Cleopatra, it's one of my favorite movies. I also wish they'd find the 2 missing hours of the movie. :)

  • esta cleopatra si esta en la talla del papel

  • the best pieces in the were destroyed, the film was long 6 hours

  • Very good clips.

    --------Ellen

  • Filme maravilhoso! Liz suprema nessa atuação. Inesquecível!.

  • I wish that they'd hurry up and fin the missing two hours from this movie and restore it to its original splendor.

  • elizabeth's beautiful face is the only one who's fitted to portray cleopatra

  • i always get told i look like her by older men and women. Id rarther be told i look like her than angelina jolie, liz is classic and natural beauty.

  • @lippy170 Well, your hair has gotta change then. haha.

  • @lippy170 Who cares?

  • @amorcholo i agree no other woman has suited and fitted playing the part the Ms Taylor its only fitting the most beautiful woman of all time play the most beautiful woman in history

  • @amorcholo I beg to differ. Vivien Leigh was way more beautiful

  • @Jen1112111 I kinda like Vivien too; but we all can see she's most successful for her role in Gone with the wind; not Cleopatra! Unlike Liz, she was most famous for her role as Cleopatra... Even if we refused to admit it.

  • @amorcholo ha, well the real cleopatra was probably really ugly from the ornaments of her, from the time, it seems so.

But i agree Elizabeth is beautiful and was AMAZING as cleopatra =)

  • wonderful movie

  • Were Bette Davis and I the only two who thought Elizabeth Talyor was too fat to play Cleopatra?

  • I think she looked perfect.

  • She did look perfect in 'Cat On A Hot Tin Roof'. Sophia Loren was a perfect Cleopatra. Anyhow, what I think is neither here nor there. But how could Bette Davis be wrong?

  • She was a new widow in 'Cat' and was at her thinnest existing on popcorn and beer.

  • Ava Gardner would have been a better choice!!!

  • treasure film ... great movies! thanks Richard ,

  • Anthony and Cleopatra has always been one of my all time great Classic Movies. What a fabulous spectacle, lavish sets, superb acting form all and Elizabeth and Anthony the star couple!! Elizabeth and Anthony.....could have been the title of that film, they had such a turbulent life together and truly loved each other deeply, just could not live under the same roof...we will never see their like again sadly! They were fabulous together!!

The King and Queen of the Silver Screen!!!

  • And of course, their 1962 romance was an event never seen in the world...to date. Can you imagine being in the news every single day?

  • @richardbassett1956 never mention Brad pitt and Angelina Jolie....

  • I adore Elizabeth Taylor and Cleopatra. This is my kind of movie. The problem is that I can't find it anywhere. I keep on watching these clips 'cause I'm just itching to see this movie. I think the Taylor-Burton romance is the best kind of thing for this movie. I have to admit, these clips were put together really well. I'm not just talking about this one. Great job and keep posting!!!

  • Great job! I love this video! Especially the second part with Cleopatra and Anthony. The music seletion for that part is perfect. I would do anything for love. It seems to be true for the way Elizabeth & Richard lived their lives in private too. They were so much in love and I do think it radiates off the screen. It's in their way of looking at each other... :)

Wonderful video, it's perfect with the different moods in the music, letting it mirror the drama you see in the clips. Thanks. :)
